Internationally accredited CILT professional qualifications include;! The Introductory Certificate in Logistics & Transport for people who have just started, or want to start, working in the industry.! The Certificate in Logistics & Transport is designed for first line supervisors and managers already working in the field of Transport & Logistics.! The Diploma in Logistics & Transport is a higher-level qualification aimed at those already working in Logistics & Transport at a middle management level. It is also suitable for professionals entering the sector who studied other disciplines at an undergraduate level.! The Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Transport is an advanced course aimed at developing strategic decision-making skills in Logistics & Transport for aspiring senior managers. Education & Experience What education and experience are required for each CILT Grade? Attaining the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Qualifications (or their equivalent professional and academic qualifications), along with the appropriate logistics and transport managerial experience, are the prerequisites to be considered for Membership. Members of the CILT can be recognised by their post nominals the abbreviated professional grade title after their name. Qualification Experience Grade Post Nominals CILT Diploma Three (3) years Member MILT or equivalent professional or academic qualification at this level supervisory experience in Transport &/or Logistics Sector CILT Advanced Diploma Five (5) years Chartered Member CMILT or equivalent professional or academic qualification at this grade managerial experience in Transport &/or Logistics Sector. Two (2) years of which must be at a Senior level. Chartered Members with seven (7) years of senior management experience can be considered for election to the grade of Fellow, with the post nominals FCILT The CILT Code of Conduct also binds Members to life long learning.! They commit to their own Continuing Development (CPD).! They must also assist & encourage fellow members, new & non-members to advance their knowledge and expertise. 3 Curriculum How does the CILT determine the curriculum in its Qualifications? The CILT Qualifications are designed to cover the Key Knowledge Areas; the range of subjects and depth of knowledge required by an individual to be considered a Member of our Institute. The range of subjects is wider, and the depth of knowledge greater for a Fellow than it is for a Member. The Key Knowledge Areas for a professional Institute such as the CILT are determined by their Members. This means the Key Knowledge Areas and learning outcomes are the same for all CILT qualifications at that level, wherever they were designed, whichever organisation provides instruction and whatever language the candidate is examined in. The learning outcomes for an Academic Qualification meet local market requirements. The number of credits and assessment strategy must meet the criteria of that institution s Senate (or equivalent committee). Consequently the curriculum for a Degree or other level courses in logistics and transport can vary from university to university, college to college. Secretary General Page 3 of 5 30 June 2010

4 Global Consistency Are CILT Qualifications consistent across the world? The International Secretariat of the CILT is the custodian of the Royal Charter (which gives us the authority to offer professional Qualifications) and the guardian of the qualification standards for membership and professional qualifications. The Secretariat ensures that Chartered Members meets the same standards across the world and our Qualifications provide the same measure of excellence wherever they are examined. We accredit institutions to provide our professional qualifications, moderate all CILT professional examinations. The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport is an international professional organisation with Members working in over 100 countries. The Crown awarded us our Charter, the Privy Council approves our Bye Laws and the CILT is registered as a Charity in the United Kingdom. While our Qualifications are offered in many countries we align the standards of each course to the UK Educational Framework. CILT Qualification United Kingdom Educational Framework Equivalent Academic Qualification 8 Doctorate (PhD) 7 Masters Degree (MSc) Advanced Diploma 6 Degree (BSc) Diploma 5 Higher National Diploma 4 Ordinary National Diploma Certificate 3 A Level Introductory Certificate 2 O Level 1 The CILT Advanced Diploma in New Zealand, Zambia, United Kingdom or any other country will cover the same Key Knowledge Areas, meet the same standards, and are subject to same rigorous quality assurance; they are equivalent qualifications. The curriculum of a CILT Advanced Diploma set New Zealand or Zambia, United Kingdom and in all other countries will vary because local examples are used to illustrate the content, different teaching methods adopted and the professional background of staff and students is different. 5 Recognition Are CILT Qualifications recognised by Academic Institutions? The CILT Advanced Diploma is a Level 6 qualification in the UK Education Framework, the same as an undergraduate degree. The UK Education Framework is recognised all over the world, indeed many countries have Education Frameworks based on the UK model. The CILT Advanced Diploma is also meets the qualification requirements of many leading institutions across the world offering Post Graduate (Level 7) courses in Logistics, Transport and related subjects. Students with CILT Qualifications are welcomed on many post graduate courses because they also bring real-world experience, particularly those who have also attained their Membership or Chartered status. CILT graduates can obtain a transcript of the modules followed in their Qualifications and local CILT Branches can also offer professional references. In Summary;! CILT Qualifications provide qualifications needed for Membership.! The learning outcomes in every curriculum is linked to the Key Knowledge Areas, regularly reviewed by Members working in Logistics & Transport.! Every CILT Qualification at each level is the equivalent of all other CILT courses around the world at that level.! The CILT Advanced Diploma is the equivalent level of an academic degree in the UK Education framework and accepted for entry into many leading postgraduate courses.
