1 Press release 2015 financial year in bayernhafen Regensburg: 3.63 million tonnes of cargo moved by inland waterway and rail; container throughput up 21.7% bayernhafen focuses on long-term efficient use of land and the interlinking of transport modes Regensburg, 18 March 2016 In bayernhafen Regensburg, along with Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth and Passau, one of the six bayernhafen Gruppe port locations, a total of 3.63 million tonnes of cargo were moved via the environmentally friendly transport modes of inland waterway and rail in 2015, down 9.7% on Rail freight handling grew 8.7% to million tonnes million tonnes were moved by inland waterway, almost on a par with 2013, but a 25% fall compared with In terms of goods transported by inland waterway, Regensburg is by far the largest port in Bavaria. bayernhafen Gruppe actively manages the availability of its land, continually offering its resident companies room for development. The sharpest decline was recorded in the volume of mineral oil products moved by inland waterway: in 2015, only 72,967 tonnes were moved by river barge (2014: 254,769 t), with rail increasingly used for transportation. As a result of the energy transition, no appreciable growth in handling volumes for mineral oil and coal is expected over the long term. The volumes of iron and steel moved by inland waterway also decreased in 2015 by 30.3% to 256,302 tonnes. The lion s share of cargo moved by inland waterway once again involved agricultural produce and human food and animal feed, with a combined total of 707,900 tonnes. Cereals are transported from Regensburg by river barge to the North Sea ports and from there to destinations around the globe. 8.7% growth in rail freight handling; container throughput up 21.7% The rail network is used, for example, for the delivery of cement and mineral oil products for the fuel depot. The container throughput in bayernhafen Regensburg grew by 21.7%: The 126,052 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit 1 TEU is the equivalent of a twenty-foot container) handled by the container terminal, which is operated by CTR Container Terminal Regensburg GmbH, were only slightly below the handling capacity of 128,000 TEU. Several times a week, container trains travel between Regensburg and the seaports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven. The initial and final legs of regional distribution are carried out by road. The largest share of the transport is via rail. This takes pressure off the road network and protects the environment. Increase in efficient use of land The container terminal in bayernhafen Regensburg will expand its handling capacity to 200,000 TEU per year by autumn The total investment volume amounts to around 10 million. Site redevelopment and the demolition of old storage depots will allow expansion onto existing port land and connection to the quay, allowing river barges to be directly incorporated into container handling. The improved road connections will make it easier to control the flow of traffic in the future. Waiting areas will be expanded and handling optimised. This will then take pressure off access roads. The project will be implemented by KT-Infrastrukturgesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG, of which bayernhafen Gruppe is a stakeholder. At the end of 2015, DTU Donau-Transport- und Umschlagsgesellschaft, a company that has Page 1 of 7
2 been based at bayernhafen Regensburg since 1998, commenced the construction of an approximately 2,600 m 2 warehouse for ship-to-shore bulk goods. The approximately 3 million warehouse is scheduled for completion in August Controlling the availability of land through ongoing optimisation and regeneration is a key aspect of the business model of bayernhafen Gruppe, to which Regensburg also belongs. Through rental and leasehold contracts, as property owner, bayernhafen s strategy of continual site re-development ensures that available space is used prudently. As site architects, we constantly redevelop and re-adapt locations and land to the needs of the resident companies and the logistics sector, says Joachim Zimmermann, Chief Executive Officer of bayernhafen Gruppe. When it comes to efficient use of land, we set the tone. Gateway to the world for the whole of East Bavaria In 2015, bayernhafen Regensburg held a large port festival to celebrate the 150 th anniversary of the original port in Regensburg, the Donaulände. The Donaulände railway line, which was opened for cargo transport on 1 October 1865, linked the central railway station to the banks of the river Danube. Then as now, the prerequisite for operating a port and for efficient cargo handling is interlinking of the modes of transport, explains Dieter Haack, the Branch Manager of bayernhafen Regensburg. bayernhafen Regensburg has developed into the logistics hub for the whole of East Bavaria. Cargo is transported from here to the whole world, and cargo comes from the whole world to here. Modal shift in long-distance freight transport is one of bayernhafen Gruppe s primary goals. Key to achieving this goal are ports with excellent transport connections that enable intelligent interlinking of the three transport modes in the transport chain: road, rail and inland waterway. The transport performance of the individual transport modes is reflected in tonne kilometres. For inland shipping, this amounted to around 1.2 billion tonne kilometres in Regensburg in The average transport distance for inland shipping was 740 km. According to information provided by the Research Information System of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), in 2013, freight was transported an average of 263 kilometres by river barge, 303 kilometres by rail, and by road, which in particular handles the initial and last mile legs, only 97 kilometres. Popularity of river cruise sector high In Regensburg, the pier for river cruise ships on the Donaulände is jointly operated by bayernhafen Gruppe and the city council: 913 cruise ships docked there in 2015, 12.6% fewer hotel ships than in 2014 despite the boom in river cruises a consequence of months of low water levels on the Danube. Tour plans had to be changed and many passengers had to travel by bus between Regensburg and Passau, where they then boarded a different ship. The cities that the cruise ships visit also benefit from the river cruise sector. Studies have shown that each cruise ship passenger spends on average 30 to 50 per day on guided tours, souvenirs, taxis or in cafés. Most of the cruise ship passengers that come from America and Australia spread the word by telling people back home about the cities they visited. Frequently, cruise passengers plan a return visit with more time. Page 2 of 7

4 bayernhafen Regensburg is the hub for freight transport throughout East Bavaria and the market leader for inland shipping in the whole of Bavaria. The port makes a considerable contribution to serving citizens and businesses and provides producers in the region with access to international transport networks and markets. The port area covers 180 hectares, which is an area equivalent to around 250 football pitches. The port is home to 90 companies who provide around 2,000 jobs. bayernhafen Gruppe comprises six locations: Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau. What makes its locations so outstanding is the combination of direct proximity to economically important geographical hubs and efficient linking of the transport routes of inland waterway, rail and road. In 2015, a total of million tonnes of goods were moved (3.44 million tonnes by inland waterway, 6.27 million tonnes by rail, million tonnes by road). bayernhafen Gruppe is an active facilitator in the development of logistics solutions and networks. It acts as a site architect that develops strategies spanning different companies and locations, invests in highly flexible infrastructure, and cooperates closely with the companies settled in the ports to tap new potential for value creation. Its objective is to further strengthen the position of the ports as logistics hubs and as major platforms for the global exchange of goods. Strategic land management ensures a mix of industries from the transport, warehousing, logistics, service provision and production sectors. 800 hectares total port area and around 500 settled companies providing over 12,000 jobs also make bayernhafen Gruppe one of the best-performing logistics networks in Europe and one of the major drivers of the Bavarian economy. bayernhafen Gruppe itself has 210 employees. The operator of the locations of Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Regensburg and Passau is Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG. The Chief Executive Officer is Joachim Zimmermann. The locations of Nuremberg and Roth are operated by Hafen Nürnberg Roth GmbH, with an 80% share held by Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG, a 19% share held by the City of Nuremberg and a 1% share held by the City of Roth. Page 4 of 7
