The 2014 acquisition of the J.P. Morgan Chase physical commodities unit helped to bring that vision to reality by building upon our physical power, gas and oil operations. Our approach is founded in partnership, product quality, efficient logistics and competitive pricing. Mercuria is entrepreneurial by nature and has a rigorous approach to risk, compliance and financial risk management. Mercuria values strategic partnership in growth areas, such as the recent investment by ChemChina in Mercuria, which complemented both companies knowledge offerings and understanding of targeted markets. Our assets add strategic value whenever and wherever logistics or sourcing solutions are needed. Power plant The return of the Danskammer power plant as a key peaking and notable load facility in the state of New York adds to Mercuria s European and U.S. power portfolio. Mercuria has replaced coal with natural gas for dramatically lower air emissions and a cleaner environment. Upstream oil and gas Mercuria has consistently invested in and acquired upstream oil and gas assets around the world. In an ever-changing and volatile marketplace, our asset s help to provide efficient access and logistics to supply. Biofuel refining Mercuria was an early adopter of environmental products into its trading portfolio. Our refinery transforms used cooking oils into high quality biodiesel. Operating a plant enables us to directly manage the quality and supply which helps accelerate the global use of non-carbon fuels. Coal mining The coal business provides opportunities for Mercuria to apply its full range of capabilities in realizing value throughout the supply chain. Strategic investments in mineral resources and infrastructure underpin our growing presence in the world market. Infrastructure and logistics Timely delivery and product quality is assured by our global logistic capabilities and network of storage and blending facilities. Mercuria was amongst the very first members of the not-for-profit Swiss Trading and Shipping Association. STSA works to deliver specialized industry training programs as well as represents the interests of the regional trading and shipping community. Mercuria worked extensively with the authorities, both in Switzerland and in the US to create an apprenticeship program to the United States. Our people participate as visiting lecturers on courses and we sponsor and provide speakers for conferences and seminars worldwide, promoting industry best practices.
