17 Inland Ports: What You Need To Know Intermodal Projects are Very Complex Developments REMEMBER: The Client is the Railroad; without rail support you do not have a project These are by definition Public Private Partnerships But MOSTLY PRIVATE You need a LOT OF LAND not just for the intermodal but for the distribution centers a very short drayage away The COMMUNITY has to be at the table up front this can counterintuitive for railroads and developers!

31 Will County s Inland Port: Problems and Challenges Trucks must pass through multiple jurisdictions, each with their own set of regulations, permitting procedures and fine structures. Potential jurisdictional disputes on the horizon regarding the road network in the inland port area.

32 Will County s Inland Port: Problems and Challenges Concerns, locally and internationally, from the railroads, trucking and shipping companies, grain haulers and prospective warehouse tenants regarding the multiple jurisdiction issue, and the uncertainty of future restrictions, regulations, permit costs and other fines or user fees.
