5 bespoke systems FPSO Anchor Load Monitoring Strainstall s anchor and hawser monitoring systems provide real-time data on mooring tensions for all types of production vessels, including turret and conventional spread mooring installations. These PC based systems are capable of monitoring multiple channels simultaneously and provide a broad selection of archiving and analytical capabilities. Single Point Buoy Mooring Monitoring Strainstall s mooring systems protect the anchor system by ensuring that it is not overloaded and in danger of pulling the FPSO or buoy from its anchor. This is particularly crucial when being used for oil transfer due to the increased risk of oil spillage. From basic stand-alone mooring load monitoring to comprehensive, integrated systems which monitor vessel draft and ballast, metocean conditions, vessel loading and structural stress, Strainstall offers turnkey capabilities. Load measurement is accomplished using specially designed Strainstall instrumented load pins with tension measuring capabilities exceeding 500 tonnes. Manufactured from stainless steel, with dual bridges, they have a design life of 25 years, and are installed in the anchor legs using custom connection hardware. Redundancy is built throughout the system, which can be supplied with Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous area ratings and certified by the major classification authorities including ABS, DNV and Lloyds Register of Shipping. The application software is developed and maintained by Strainstall, enabling it to be tailored to meet the customer s exact requirements. Systems can also be configured to interface directly with other onboard monitoring and contol systems, which are installed by our team of experienced service and commissioning engineers. A typical offshore FPSO tandem mooring system consists of chain and/or synthetic lines coupled with shackles or tension links. The shackles and links are fitted with load measuring sensors (load pins or load links) and connected by hard-wire or radio link to a master unit to provide load readouts, alarms and logging facilities. Similarly, a basic system for a single point mooring buoy uses load pins incorporated into the mooring bridle to provide continuous real-time monitoring of loads in the vessel hawser. The system can be extended to provide additional information such as product pressure and anchor chain loads, remote control fog horns and GPS units for both the tanker and the buoy, to monitor their relative positions in order to prevent collisions and aid the tanker when mooring to the buoy. All equipment is designed to withstand prolonged use in harsh environments, and hazardous area certification is also available. Strainstall

6 world class Offshore Berth Management Systems for Floating Storage & Regasification Units (FSRU) Using the experience gained from supplying jetty management systems for on-shore oil & gas terminals over the past 45 years, Strainstall s FSRU integrated berth management systems have been designed to enhance safe operation and to assist the mooring master during ship-to-ship transfer operations. Our FSRU mooring and monitoring solutions provide information on the speed of approach, mooring line tensions, loading arm working envelope and environmental parameters, which are all linked to a central control system to provide graphic representation of all critical data with pre-set safety limits and alarms to aid ship-to-ship transfer. Strainstall s system comprises the following components: Quick release mooring hooks with remote release in configurations and ratings to suit individual applications. MoorAlert Mooring hawser load monitoring using Strainstall designed and manufactured load measuring pins installed in quick release hooks and/or mooring winches. To ensure activities remain within safe working envelopes, loading arm position monitoring can also be provided. DockAlert GPS, a vessel based GPS docking system, with the base station installed on the FRSU and a portable pilot unit taken onboard the incoming LNG carrier. Large digit displays can also be installed on the FSRU to display the approaching speeds and distances of the LNG carrier, which the pilot can use during the final approach. The system can include meteorological data, with sensors to monitor the wind speed and direction, temperature, pressure and visibility, along with oceanographic data to monitor the sea-state, surface currents, deep water currents and wave profile. All of the elements described can be integrated using Strainstall s BerthManager software and configured to monitor, log, provide alarms and report on all the sensors in the system. This data is displayed in the central control room and can also be displayed locally through fixed or portable units and transmitted to the incoming LNG vessel, allowing the approach and berthing operation to be monitored on both the vessels. In addition to the monitoring systems, Strainstall, as part of the James Fisher & Sons group of companies, can also supply floating fenders, davits and deckside equipment to complete the ship-to-ship transfer operations. We can also integrate other systems to provide an Integrated Management System; components of which can include: StressAlert hull stress monitoring to provide information on the stresses and moments in the vessel hull. Product monitoring using sensors to monitor pressure and flow of the LNG. Ballast monitoring using sensors to monitor the levels, flow, etc. of ballast tanks. Ballast control to provide control of pumps and valves Pump monitoring to monitor the status of pumps. Strainstall s systems are designed to provide years of reliable service in the most arduous of environments, including hazardous areas.

7 proven design Quick Release Towing Hooks and Towing Load Monitoring Strainstall s towing hooks enable ships to be towed safely under severe working conditions, and enable the towing line to be released whether slack or under full safe working load. Our towing load monitoring systems give additional information to towing vessel masters including a direct reading of tension in the towing hawser. Load Cells Strainstall design and manufacture a range of premium quality load cells, load pins, load shackles and load links. The disc type towing hooks incorporate a manual quick release mechanism that allows the towing line to be instantaneously released under full load, This ensures the safety of the tug and personnel by absorbing the energy in the rope due to tension, thus eliminating shocks and vibration. We can also supply remote control systems with either hydraulic or pneumatic release mechanism, and an accurate towing load monitoring system can be incorporated into the towing hooks if require, providing information to assist safe passage. The towing load monitoring system consists of load cells or a load measuring pin fitted to the disc type towing hook, quick release mooring hook or winch, plus a readout/alarm warning unit which can be set with overload thresholds to suit the gauge of the rope or wire being used for the towing operation. There are three typical towing load monitoring configurations: A single channel system with the load pin designed for incorporation into a swivel joint of a tugboat quick release mooring hook. For double drum winches, with both outputs leading to a single display unit with a switch to select the desired measurement channel. For marine towing winches, with the load being measured by load cells in the brakestay. We specialise in supplying bespoke products for unique applications, including harsh environment and hazardous areas and have a hire, calibration and repair capability. We can also provide a range of associated instrumentation.

8 capability Over the past 40 years we have built an impressive portfolio of clients who have benefited from our offshore monitoring and control technology. Our client list continues to grow steadily, and below is a selection of them, along with a small number of the offshore structures that we have supplied equipment to. experience Hull Stress Monitoring Strainstall s StressAlert hull stress monitoring technology is the result of over 40 years at the leading edge of load measurement, strain and stress determination. Our expertise, together with a strong commercial understanding of vessel operating control and safety, means that StressAlert is more than just an alarm system. Hull structural integrity is continuously monitored and displayed, and advanced algorithms contained within StressAlert enable predictions of hull status and deterioration to be determined. Course, speed and metocean information can be integrated within the standard package, giving increased safety and operational efficiency. The system provides instant access to the vessel s hull stress status, whether derived from dynamic wave action or induced stresses from cargo operations, allowing the ship s master to alter course and/or speed to reduce stress levels. This enhances vessel safety and can facilitate fuel savings and effective voyage management. A range of display screens offer quick and easy access to all measured data. StressAlert uses mimic, trend and tabular displays as appropriate. All data is logged to provide a permanent record of vessel operation, for post- voyage analysis. The standard system meets ABS, BV, DNV, Lloyds and NK classification requirements and can be extended using additional sensors to meet higher specifications. Interfaces can also be provided to link with other ship systems, including navigation and environmental systems.
