Brief Job Description: A Seed Processing Plant Technician responsible for operating various types of seed processing machineries such as cleaner, scalper, specific gravity separator, indented cylinder, elevator, etc. for drying the seed. S/he also applies chemical protectants to the seed, to ensure that the seed is of desired quality. Personal Attributes: A Seed Processing Plant Technician must have the the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, calculate, concentrate and handle pressure. The individual must possess reading, writing and communication skills. In addition, the individual must have mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills.

It may also be defined as a distinct subset of the economy whose components share similar characteristics and interests. Sub-sector is derived from a further breakdown based on the characteristics and interests of its components. Occupation is a set of job roles, which perform similar/related set of functions in an industry. Function is an activity necessary for achieving the key purpose of the sector, occupation, or area of work, which can be carried out by a person or a group of persons. Functions are identified through analysis and form the basis of OS. Job role defines a unique set of functions that together form a unique employment opportunity in an organization. OS specify the standards of performance an individual must achieve when carrying out a function in the workplace, together with the knowledge and understanding they need to meet that standard consistently. Occupational Standards are applicable both in the Indian and global contexts. Performance Criteria are statements that together specify the standard of performance required when carrying out a task. NOS are Occupational Standards which apply uniquely in the Indian context. Qualifications Pack Code is a unique reference code that identifies a qualifications pack. Qualifications Pack comprises the set of OS, together with the educational, training and other criteria required to perform a job role. A Qualifications Pack is assigned a unique qualification pack code. Unit Code is a unique identifier for an Occupational Standard, which is denoted by an N Unit Title gives a clear overall statement about what the incumbent should be able to do. Description gives a short summary of the unit content. This would be helpful to anyone searching on a database to verify that this is the appropriate OS they are looking for. Knowledge and Understanding are statements which together specify the technical, generic, professional and organizational specific knowledge that an individual needs in order to perform to the required standard. Organizational Context includes the way the organization is structured and how it operates, including the extent of operative knowledge managers have of their relevant areas of responsibility. Technical Knowledge is the specific knowledge needed to accomplish specific designated responsibilities. Core Skills or Generic Skills are a group of skills that are key to learning and working in today's world. These skills are typically needed in any work environment. In the context of the OS, these include communication related skills that are applicable to most job roles. Page 3

16 National Occupational Standard AGR/N7117 Operate seed processing machineries Unit Code Unit Title (Task) Description Scope AGR/N7117 Performance Criteria(PC) w.r.t. the Scope Element Operate seed processing machines Package processed seeds Operate seed processing machineries This OS unit is about operating seed processing machineries as per the specifications and standards of the organization This unit/task covers the following: Operate seed processing machineries Package processed seeds Store the processed seeds Performance Criteria To be competent, the user/individual must be able to: PC1. receive the raw seed into the processing plant PC2. ensure that the seed is fed into the input pit for the processing to begin PC3. allow the bucket elevator to transfer the seed into the pre-cleaner PC4. turn on the pre-cleaner to remove external materials such as trash, stones, dust, etc. PC5. turn valves to feed the partially cleaned seed into the cleaner cum grader to remove undersized seeds PC6. set and control the bucket elevator to feed the cleaned and sized seed into the indented cylinder wherein broken and short seeds would be separated PC7. ensure that the graded seed is fed into the specific gravity separator for removing light seeds, as they are immature PC8. treat seeds coming out of the specific gravity separator by making them pass through the treater, which treats seeds by coating seeds with chemicals, to prevent formation of fungus on seeds PC9. report malfunction/discrepancies/concerns in machineries to department supervisor for immediate action To be competent, the user/individual must be able to: PC10. ensure collection of the processed seeds from the processing area PC11. procure bags for bagging of seeds PC12. fill the bag with seeds to an exact weight, using a weighing scale, and as advised by the department supervisor PC13. close the bag either manually or by using a bag closer PC14. label the seed bag by attaching it to the seed bag, or by printing it directly on the seed bag PC15. ensure that the label contains all important information about the seed PC16. ensure that complete processing records are maintained to trace the seed from the time it is received at the plant till storage, with full details of operations Store the processed seeds To be competent, the user/individual must be able to: PC17. monitor the storage of the processed seeds until planting time PC18. ensure the seeds are stored in dry and cool conditions Page 16

Criteria for assessment for each Qualification Pack will be created by the Sector Skill Council. Each Performance Criteria (PC) will be assigned marks proportional to its importance in NOS. SSC will also lay down proportion of marks for Theory and Skills Practical for each PC 2. The assessment for the theory part will be based on knowledge bank of questions created by the SSC 3.
