Reports may be published as one-offs or as periodicals monthly, quarterly, or annual. They do not usually include details of individual ships but rather summaries of ship types. Reports are compiled and published by governments, classification societies, companies, consultants, and other research organisations. They complement information given in such as ship registers and trade directories where technical details of each ship would be included. Report summaries are often published in trade and industry magazines and research journals. The full reports are often expensive to purchase and can be very expensive if they contain market forecasts upon which organisations will base their future investment strategies.
