2 The Issues impacting the Express industry today. More sophisticated threats. Security concerns, and civil unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, how did we manage the crisis? Additional and complex regulatory issues especially from the US and Europe. Customs introducing new security checkpoints and slowing shipment movement. Cost of new technology such as the Dual view x ray machines. The need for industry to communicate and lobby more effectively.

3 New and more sophisticated threats. On 29 th October 2010 the Air Express Industry almost had our 9/11. High explosives expertly concealed in two printer cartridges bound for the USA were discovered in Dubai and the UK.

4 New and more sophisticated threats. Inspire website magazine is allegedly published by the AQAP. It mocked the response of authorities in banning shipment of printer cartridges.

24 Key Messages We need a risk based approach; one size does not fit all. Many of the organisations understand the challenges but we need more industry leadership, particularly in the Middle East Region.
