1 Illegally Dumped Tires A Collaborative Approach Jennifer Welch County of Henrico Standing Water Initiative

2 Purpose To facilitate the clean up and removal of waste tires in order to help reduce mosquito breeding sites and protect Public Health in the County of Henrico.

3 Background, 2001 County-wide stream assessment project documented debris piles (many with tires). List of sites forwarded to Community Maintenance (CM) whom started using "Community Service" recipients (CCPs) to clean up tire piles. Public Works supplied transport vehicles coordination efforts begin. (no formal protocol adopted)

4 Background, 2005 Mosquito program recognizes relevance of waste tire issues. Communicates with CM, VDEQ, DPU, Environmental Compliance Task Force (ECTF) Attempts to establish formal protocol
