RISK QUALITY SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE DISTRIBUTION FLEET, AIR OPERATIONS The ICRC works in more than 80 countries around the world, relieving suffering and carrying out a range of life saving activities in conflict zones, including: supplying food, safe drinking water, sanitation and shelter; providing health care; and helping to reduce the danger of landmines and unexploded ordnance. In all our work, logistics is vital: almost 25% of our staff work in logistics and their activities cover all segments of the humanitarian supply chain. The chart below illustrates what those activities are, including those that contribute directly to the ICRC s ultimate objective of delivering relief to people in need. We hire a variety of skilled professionals to provide agile and reliable logistical support. But working for the ICRC is not like working in logistics anywhere else; it entails: coping with the challenges of poor, damaged or destroyed infrastructure managing unpredictable situations considering political and security issues working in rural and isolated areas reporting on our work to donors juggling multiple and simultaneous supply chains. 3 GENERAL LOGISTICS We are in charge of overall supply chain management for ICRC operations. Logisticians at the ICRC are versatile able to work in a range of countries and at all stages of the supply chain. Their responsibilities include: overseeing, coordinating and optimizing the flow of goods from initial request to final distribution compliance with internal procedures and best practices, as well as external regulations managing and coordinating logistics operations during emergencies. Medical logisticians (a.k.a. med logs) provide supply chain support (warehousing and/or dispatch) to our medical operations staff. Pharmacists are responsible for quality assurance for pharmaceutical products and provide support for our medical operations staff and medical logisticians, in accordance with internal standards and specifications, as well as domestic and international laws and regulations. 4 PROCUREMENT We carry out needs assessments and procure goods and services to meet operational needs. Procured goods range from food to essential household items, from construction materials to telecommunication devices. We work within operational constraints to meet our goals in a timely and coste cient manner, and in line with the ICRC s procurement principles. We adapt the means of transport to the operational challenges we encounter, e.g. the lack of infrastructure, difficult terrain and security issues. We ensure smooth transit of all ICRC goods across borders, complying with all legal and regulatory requirements. We do so in order to achieve our objective: to reach people in need quickly. 5 WAREHOUSE We manage warehouses, which involves quality control and the monitoring, handling and storage of goods. Warehouse management differs at each ICRC delegation, owing to the climate and conflict situation. Warehousing Specialized storage Quality control Inventory management AIR OPERATIONS We provide safe, reliable and efficient means of air transport for people and cargo to support the ICRC s operations. FLEET We manage the fleet of vehicles and generators required by the ICRC to carry out the organization s work. We ensure that vehicles and equipment are suitable for the di erent situations in which we work, and that they help keep staff safe, respect the environment and safeguard the ICRC s image. We provide training for all specialists in the field (drivers, mechanics, forklift and crane truck operators). 6 CUSTOMER ORDER We analyse, anticipate and optimize supply chain management. We enhance the delivery of goods, services and information from supplier to customer, balancing supply and demand. This includes all phases from receiving a request from the customer, providing the necessary information to prepare an order (i.e. specifications for procurement), supply channels, delivery methods, order follow up and receipt of the requested goods. Customer service desk Inventory management Collaborative planning Forecasting LOGISTICS SYSTEMS AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE We use business intelligence (BI) tools to support the Logistics division in consolidating, processing and analysing data related to supply chain management. We create reports and dashboards which provide essential information to support decision-making and plans of action. Our logistics systems provide support at each step of the supply chain, in particular through the Entreprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The ICRC s operations are driven by real-time data. Schneider/ICRC WHAT WE LOOK FOR We are looking for people from different academic and technical backgrounds with a range of qualifications, skills and experiences, including: graduate degrees, i.e. Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, MBA, MPA diplomas and certificates. i.e. CIPS, APICS, CILT/FRITZ, DGR, Incoterms rules, CFC language skills (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, etc.) IT skills, i.e. MS Office, ERP (where applicable) experience working in the area of supply chain management, preferably internationally leadership and people management skills.
