6 Bakery Complete packaging line from naked product through to case packing. BISCUITS ON EDGE The SPS/CAMA experience in the bakery sector, with a wide range of installed solutions, has once more created a customised system to satisfy the requirements of leading European biscuit manufacturers. The line is comprising of SPS innovative dribbleboard design, gentle handling feeder conveyors and vibratory channels bringing lanes of biscuits into a volumetric portioning device which loads the individual slugs of biscuits into a 90 flighted bar conveyor, from where they are transferred using a patented overhead rotary wheel mechanism into the infeed conveyor of the SPS BOE MODULO wrapper. The transfer wheel can transfer different length of packs just by changing speed of rotation. At the exit of the wrapper, by means of conveyors, the products are transferred into a CAMA FW electronic Case Packer, capable of packing various types of products in a wrap-around case as well as in a two-piece display case for retail-ready packaging solutions. Depending on the configuration required, the products can be loaded either on edge (landscape or portrait) or flat into the cases. The CAMA case packer is a triedand-tested machine, granting extreme reliability as well as flexibility in order to meet the various market requirements. Examples of packages. 04

8 Bakery Partnership and Reliability. BISCUITS IN PILES The SPS system is extremely flexible in running different types of dry biscuits and sandwich biscuits in varying numbers of single product per pile and grouping different numbers of piles per pack. The grouping of different types of biscuit into different numbers of piles per final pack has been developed by SPS and it is the result of the experience gained over years of dedication in solving biscuit packaging problems. All systems can be supplied in full automatic or semi-automatic version. CAMA has developed an innovative and compact Monoblock Loading System, thanks to its continuous investments in R&D always aimed at offering State of the Art plants. The new extremely compact system, patent pending, has a reduced footprint and it s full servo-controlled. Involving two different versions, the system can achieve a production speed of 50 or 100 packs per minute. In respect of the Company mission, a completely automatic size changing system has been developed (ASC - Automatic Size Changing). This is an important technical achievement which means enormous advantages for the final user. On the CAMA monoblock loading unit, size changing can be carried out by the operator in a completely automatic way, supported by servomotor controls and, even better, without the use of tools. In any case the CAMA standard size changing version involves no use of tools as well as quick component replacement by means of an automatic release control mechanism. In addition, CAMA has developed a digital size changing system (ASR Automatic Sizeparts Recognition), which guarantees automatic recognition of the various components positions, with accurate adjustment and a quick line restart. 10 Bakery SPS/CAMA have a proven technical know-how for packaging of sandwich biscuits. SANDWICH BISCUITS The new SPS sandwiching machine has been completely redesigned taking into account the increasingly demanding requirements of customers in terms of cleaning and sanitation. The system includes an automatic handling system with lanes reduction (not shown in the picture) for feeding shells of biscuits into two SB/1600 sandwiching machines. An automatic collation and stacking system creates piles of sandwich or single sandwich to be fed into the single wrapper model REGOLA. At the discharge of the 2 wrappers individual packs are fed into a multipack wrapper to wrap in flow pack and deliver to CAMA cartoning machine or to by-pass multipack wrapper and deliver as single pack into CAMA cartoning machine and case packer. In this specific end-loading solution, CAMA is not presenting a traditional robotic top load line, but rather a high-performing system comprising of an electronic cartoning machine and a case packer to handle flow-packed biscuits. A special infeed receives the slugs narrow edge leading at a continuous production speed of 200 products per minute and smoothly turns the slugs into the cartoner s continuous motion product feed conveyor. Cartons are erected from the low level, large capacity, driven magazine and the products are inserted into the cartons. The packed biscuits are then grouped and loaded in the wrap around case, formed starting from flat blank. Depending on the configuration required, the products can be loaded either on edge (landscape or portrait) or flat into cases. This technical solution allows high-flexibility as a top loading application for customer needs. As well as providing additional advantages in competitive quotation, reduced foot-print and user friendly operations. Examples of products. 08

12 Bakery Winning results to satisfy the most demanding customers. FLEXIBLE SOLUTIONS FOR WAFERS Thanks to their specialised knowhow in the wafer market, combined with their unique range of packaging solutions, SPS/CAMA have once more produced winning solutions and technologically advanced plants to satisfy the requirements of the most demanding clientele. SPS system includes: two new concept piling and turning devices for books of wafer arriving from process up-stream. Two parallel buffer belts. Two over paddles transfer system for individual rows of wafers. Two plus two parallel conveyor systems for feeding wafers into the SPS REGOLA wrappers complete with tear tape unit. Two new end fold fin seal systems of new design. The final perfectly square pillow packs are then delivered at the speed of 700 flow-wraps/minute on two lanes into display cases. Gentle handling guarantees the integrity of an extremely fragile product. CAMA, unique supplier of high performance secondary packaging solutions, has supplied a line made up of a high speed cartoning machine, two delta robots and a display-box case packer. The products are discharged from a flowpack machine and are picked up and loaded line tracking into electronic cartoning machine infeed. Then they are packed in a carton and finally inserted into a display-box case in one of several different configurations. CAMA s ability to simultaneously manage three different secondary packaging technologies (robotics, cartoning and case packing) guarantees several advantages for the final customer. 14 Confectionery Complete packaging system for bars. CHOCOLATE AND CEREAL BARS A consistent part of the SPS and CAMA philosophy in the manufacture of highly efficient packaging lines, is partnership development with the End User. This line recently installed, represents one of the best examples of this partnership development. This is indeed a turnkey project realized by SPS/CAMA: such a packaging line is dedicated to packing chocolate bars, at up to bars per minute. SPS system has been designed for collecting rows of product, distributing at programmed speed into two inline feeders with the possibility to refeed rows accumulated on the buffer belt at the end of the conveyors. The refeeding operation is done by a double rows feeding station in real time. No contact feeders are handling and phasing products into the full programmable SPS MODULO wrappers. After the bars are flowrapped in single packs, they are transferred to the grouping unit, where two CAMA robots pick them up and load the products into the waiting boxes that have been automatically erected. The boxes are then automatically glued using hot melt adhesive, and closed. Thanks to the strong co-operation between CAMA and SPS, it was possible to achieve a very short commissioning time and retain the high reliability required. The F.A.T. (Final Acceptance Test) was carried out in CAMA s premises on the complete line, making the line easy to assemble and to check the primary and the secondary packaging machines and robot synchronisation. This considerably cut the commissioning time in production, increasing the benefits to the customer with a fast vertical start-up of the line. Examples of products. 12

18 Confectionery One step ahead with turn-key system. CIGAR WAFERS CAMA/SPS recently produced an innovative turn-key system for cigar wafers with a continuous motion horizontal flow-wrapper and a Multi Delta loading unit, that may include up to 4 Delta Triaflex robots. The CAMA packaging line is composed of a Multi Delta robot unit, which by means of smart vision system can pick naked products (cigar wafers), coming from production line and position them correctly into the SPS continuous motion horizontal flowwrapper model Regola. The wrapper is equipped with sophisticated control of quality and number of products per pack, no-product/no-bag application, gusset unit. Subsequently, the products are packed in different configurations into end load cartons. The optimal, fastest and most gentle-handling solution has been studied, so as not to damage delicate products such as cigar wafer. The unique approach of this new multi robots application is that CAMA now utilizes a single controller for the entire system. Consequently, all functions are integrated in one control system, while the number of interfaces and component costs are reduced. Examples of packages. 16
