Pilot project with AAMS (Customs and Monopoly Agency) Project objective Experiencing and demonstrating the applicability of the TPD to the italian market of tobacco products Authentication of cigarette packs (four brands selected one for each major manufacturer of the DCTA consortium Tracing the products along the supply chain from manufacturing up to italian distributor. CIGARETTES CIGARETTES 11

Pilot project with AAMS (Customs and Monopoly Agency) Achieved results Through that experimental project, AAMS has been put in the position of verifying the compliance of the INEXTO system in the management of the most significant processes involved with their responsibility of authorizing sale and legitimating the circulation of tobacco product in Italy, as: Authorization of importing, moving and selling tobacco product into the italian market through releasing unique Identity Codes for cigarette packs (not only the paper stamps) Remote control of the use of digital stamps (released codes) in producing cigarettes Managing waste of digital stamps in a very similar way as the paper stamps during production Traceability of products made available on the italian market by controlling their authenticity and the destination market they were produced for. 12

Pilot project with Logista (Tobacco product distributor) Objectives and results achieved Project context: Implementation of the Directive 2014/40. Project objective: Prove that INEXTO System is able to satisfy most of the requisites of the Art. 15 of the Directive. Achieved results: The test has shown that: INEXTO System can be fully integrated into the operations of tobacco distribution depot with minimum impact on processes The system does not need special proprietary hardware tools The system handles all the information necessary to an operator to manage tobacco logistic The system allows a continuous monitoring of tobacco products from manufacturing to points of sale. It basically operates at low cost. 13

T&T of tobacco Leaf Objectives and results expected Project objective: Defining and testing a new way to approach to fight counterfeiting of tobacco starting from the production of the leaf. Approach: Evaluation, at regular intervals during the cycle of tobacco cultivation, of some specific parameters detected through image processing using satellites (Sentinel and CosmoSkyMed) and drones equipped with specific sensors These parameters will be correlated with the effective production of the known area in order to design a simple and effective model for accurate estimation of productivity in tobacco plants Discover undeclared production, calculating the differences between estimated quantities and the ones declared by the farmer. 15

Lessons Learned The experience made in several years has highlighted the importance of: Involving tobacco producers from the beginning of the project to better define all processes and interfaces with governmental controlling authorities Minimizing the impact of the application of the Directive 2014/40 on stakeholder processes (production and distribution) Verifying and making possible the application of a complex technology in a very cost-effective way, with a modular and interoperable application. 17
