5 Motion Compensation Operating in deepwater environments often presents a unique set of challenges. Movement due to weather, loop currents or tidal changes may require motion compensation alternatives. Devin s motion compensation systems react to the motion they encounter and allow your equipment to stay in place by providing vertical compensation. Whether you use it aboard offshore production facilities, tension leg platforms or mobile offshore drilling units, your valuable equipment will be protected from variable tensile and compression loads. Specifications: 650K DLC System Description Specifications DLC Assembly 5 Stroke Estimated Weight on Traveling Block 15,500 lb Compensation Hook Load (compensating) 650,000 lb Hook Load (mechanically locked) 270,000 lb Hook Load (extended position, cylinder rod extended) 1,000,000 lb Stroke (as order) 5 Stroke Compensator Cylinder (compression) (1 each) Bore Diameter 20 Stroke (as ordered) 5 Nominal Working Pressure 2,350 psi Main Cylinder Air/Oil Reservoir Capacity (2 each) 5 DLC = 100 gallons Lock Pin System (1 each) Maximum Working Load 135 tons Valve Manifold Assembly (1 each) Approximate Weight 400 lb Driller s Control Panel (standard - 1 each) Approximate Dimensions 22 Wide x 16 High x 8 Deep Direct Line Compensator (DLC) When installed below the top drive, the Direct Line Compensator works to isolate vertical movement due to heave. The DLC is composed of a single compression-type air cylinder pressurized by air or nitrogen pressure vessels. The compensating force is determined by the magnitude of the system pressure, or weight on hook. As the drilling vessel heaves upward from wave action, the hook load moves downward and the compensator cylinder is extended. While this hook motion is relative to the drilling vessel, it is fixed relative to the sea floor. 3 devin@nov.com nov.com/devin
