7 History History AlKazemi Group s prominence and success is due to the vision of its founder, born in 1927 to a reputable Kuwaiti family, Abdullatif AlKazemi was yet to become an icon of Kuwait s social and economic eminence. After graduating in 1940 and partnering with his brother for a number of years, Mr. AlKazemi turned his attention to building his own shipping business. Utilizing his education, experience and entrepreneurial flair, he launched the first of the group s companies in Mr. AlKazemi partnered with the African Hull Blyth & the British Cory Bros, renowned in the shipping industry, and together they formed one of the first shipping companies in Kuwait, known at the time as United Shipping Services. On the Social spectrum, in 1965 Mr. AlKazemi became a member of the Municipality Council where he was elected as chairman of the technical, financial and economical committee. In 1967, he succeeded in becoming a trusted member of parliament whilst continuing to build his business which flourished under his leadership. Amongst Abdullatif AlKazemi (standing) in a parliamentary session in 1972 his most notable achievements during his term in parliament was the establishment of The Public Institution for Social Security, as well as the nationalization of the petrochemical industry. Mr. AlKazemi was amongst one of the first to propose the formation of Cooperative Societies in Kuwait, and successfully did so by establishing the Kaifan Co-op, the first of many in Kuwait. As Kuwait s economy continued to grow, Mr. AlKazemi had established five divisions; Trading & Contracting, Shipping & Logistics, Travel & Tourism, Investment, Hospitality and Real Estate. The most recent of which was manufacturing in 2004, proving yet another successful venture. The core of AlKazemi Group remains true to its origins. Continuing to be led by AlKazemi family, the company now employs over 500 staff members, whose expertise range from shipping logistics to chocolate tempering. All divisions of AlKazemi Group are unified by common values, maintaining the founder s vision of providing premium services and products to all clients.
