12 Tip 5: Involving volunteers Advice from Jessica Lousley Volunteering development coordinator - VCS There are lots of great reasons to involve volunteers to help you bring your project to life, bring in new skills and experiences to help your group grow, and to build stronger connections with your community to name just a few! But if you want to be sure that taking on volunteers to help you is a great experience for you and your group, there are a few really important questions you need to ask yourself before you take the plunge!: Why do I want to involve volunteers? Why would people want to volunteer with my group? What kinds of tasks will they carry out? How many volunteers do I need and for how long? Have I got the resources? (space, money to cover expenses) How will I support and manage my volunteers to ensure they are happy? If you can answer all of these then you re ready to make a start! But before you do, why not get in touch with Volunteer Centre Southwark? Involving volunteers for the first time even just finding them! can feel quite daunting, so we re here to help you with finding volunteers and all the advice and support you need to make your project a success! goodpractice@volunteercentres.org.uk
