This standard was first published in This revision has been taken up to incorporate the developments in the field. 1 SCOPE This standard covers the technical supply conditions for percussive as well as rotary type of pneumatic tools used in the mining, construction and manufacturing industries. 2 REFERENCES The following Indian Standards contain provisions, which, through reference in this text, constitute provision of this Indian standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. The manufacturer may or may not be the supplier. 3.2 Purchaser The firm/person purchasing the tools. The purchaser shall also cover the person or persons authorized in writing by the purchaser to act on his behalf for inspection of the tools. 3.3 Supplier The firm supplying the tools. The supplier may or may not be the manufacturer of the tools. 4 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Pneumatic tools and accessories supplied along with the tools shall be designed for the required duty as specified in the relevant Indian Standards and/or as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier. 4.2 If specifically required by the user/consumer, the endurance testing of tool as specified in the standard, shall be carried out in the presence of his representative. 4.3 The manufacturer/supplier shall ensure that the accessories fitted, if any, on the tool shall not obstruct the operation of operator. 4.4 The tools shall be safe to operate at an inlet pressure of 10 percent above the rated pressure for a maximum period of one hour. 5 ENQUIRY, PROPOSAL AND GUARANTEE 5.1 Enquiry 2

5 Doc :PGD 08(1405) The purchaser shall complete the data as given in Annex A to the extent possible and applicable. Purchaser shall also specify any known abnormal conditions of working. In addition, the purchaser may specify any requirements deemed essential A reference to the given below Indian Standards will help the purchaser in framing specification of tools and its accessories: For Percussive Tools: IS 3559, IS 7605, IS 7978, IS 7979, IS 9419 and IS For Rotary Tools: IS 5441, IS 7157, IS 8067, IS 9707 and IS Proposal The supplier shall include a data sheet in his proposal according to Annex B. Any other details required by the purchaser shall also be included The proposal shall include a specific statement that tool is in strict compliance with the purchaser s specifications or a specific list of deviation shall be attached The supplier shall include a list of recommended spare parts along with his proposal for two years of normal operation Unless otherwise specifically agreed to between the supplier and the purchaser, the conditions of commissioning will be as per supplier s standard conditions. 5.3 Guarantee Supplier/manufacturer shall guarantee the tools for a period of six months from the date of supply. The quick wearing parts shall not be covered under the guarantee Performance Guarantee The tools shall be guaranteed for satisfactory performance at the specified operating conditions by the supplier. The supplier/manufacturer shall specify the declared values of the parameters as required in accordance with the relevant Indian Standards. They shall also certify having complied with the specifications. Such a certificate shall be supplied along with the despatch documents Workmanship Guarantee Supplier/manufacturer shall guarantee the tool against the defects which despite proper use appear there in and arise from defective or improper materials or poor or faulty workmanship. Unless specifically agreed to between the supplier and the 3

6 Doc :PGD 08(1405) purchaser, the supplier s normal terms and conditions shall apply for the purpose of this standard. 6 MATERIAL Materials for the construction of pneumatic tools shall be of uniform quality and shall be free from defects and imperfections that might affect the serviceability of the finished products. The materials selected shall be such as to meet the requirements of performance, quality and the endurance tests given in the relevant Indian Standards. 7 MANUAL AND DOCUMENTS 7.1 Each pneumatic tool shall be supplied with the following: a) Instruction manual, b) Guarantee certificate, and c) Special maintenance tools. 7.2 Instruction Manual Instruction manual shall contain the following informations: a) General operating and maintenance instructions; b) An exploded/cross-sectional view of the tools showing the sequence of the assembly; c) List of parts with their respective part numbers; d) Quick wearing parts duly identified; e) Defects and faults likely to occur during operation, and their remedies; f) Lubricating instructions along with the recommended grades of lubricants; and g) Any other specific instructions which the manufacturer feels necessary for proper operation and maintenance of the tools. 8 MARKING Each tool shall be fixed with a suitable name plate having complete data as given in relevant Indian Standards or details punched. 9 PACKING Each pneumatic tool shall be suitably packed to avoid any damage during transit, If agreed to between the manufacturer/supplier and the purchaser, the packing case shall be in accordance with IS

This standard was first published in 1980 and revised in This revision has been taken up to incorporate the developments in the field. For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 `Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)'. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off values should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. 1 SCOPE This standard covers the requirements for pneumatic pusher legs used with light and medium weight rockdrills. 2 REFERENCES The following Indian Standards contain provisions, which, through reference in this text, constitute provision of this Indian standard. 9 Doc :PGD 08(1406) 1570 (Part 3) Schedule of wrought steels Part 3 Carbon and carbon- manganese free : 1979 cutting steels (first revision) 2062 : 2011 Hot rolled medium and high tensile structural steel specification (seventh revision) 3601: 2006 Steel tubes for mechanical and general engineering purposes Specification (second revision) : 1995 Malleable iron castings Specification (superseding IS 1149, 2108) 3 TERMINOLOGY 3.1 Pusher Leg A pneumatic appliance having a cylinder and piston arrangement used to support the rock drill and to apply feed to the rockdrill during drilling (for tunneling and drifting applications). 4 FEED LENGTH, NOMINAL BORE, MASS AND DIMENSIONS Feed length, nominal bore, mass and dimensions of pusher legs shall be as given in Table 1. 5 MATERIAL The material shall be of uniform quality and shall be free from imperfections and defects that might affect the serviceability of the finished product. A push button shall also be provided to release the air. 6.3 A carrying handle shall be provided at the middle of the pusher leg.

10 Doc :PGD 08(1406) 6.4 Proper mounting attachment for the rockdrill shall be supplied with the pusher leg. The mounts shall be of screwed Mount A and B or clamped Mount C by means of bayonet coupling, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. 6.5 The pusher leg shall be able to work effectively at a nominal air pressure of 6 ± 0.5 bar. 7 TEST 7.1 Air shall be allowed in the pusher leg at specified working pressure. The pusher leg shall then be checked for leakages, etc and there shall be no leakages. 7.2 Test Report If required by the customer, the manufacturer shall supply a test report. 8 DESIGNATION A pusher leg having a feed length of 900 mm, cylinder bore of 63 mm and conforming to this standard, shall be designated as: 9 MARKING Pusher Leg IS Each pusher leg shall be marked with the following: a) Designation; b) Maximum working pressure in MPa; c) Serial number; and d) Manufacturer s name or trade-mark. 9.1 As sufficient place for a data plate to be rivetted is not available on the pusher leg, the data may be on a sticker attached to it.
