СТО - A Class of its Own As versatile as the printer's work in GTO format: The single-sheet feeder processes the most various printing materials with great reliability. Heidelberg GTO - it is not only the most successful model range in international offset press engineering. GTO is a sheet-size class. For printers all around the world 36x52 cm means GTO format. Just as unambiguous and widespread is the second term which is associated with this sheet-size class: GTO-quality. In fact with the first GTO a totally new press type was launched for small-size printed products. And even more: Through reliable printing quality, great versatility and easy operation, the GTO single and multicolour presses made this market into what it is today. Its versatility is full of economic possibilities and it continues to grow in volume. A single GTO can cover all a printshop's requirements for this market segment - from numbered forms, perforated reply cards up to demanding fourcolour printing jobs. Small companies use this strength as the backbone of their whole work. Helped by GTO fleets of single and multi-colour presses medium-sized companies concentrate their core activities in the АЗ area. In large companies GTO presses are used in profit centres, for training and special applications. Due to continuous technical further development for a variety of models that meets practical needs, the GTO is constantly setting new standards in the market. The aim is to constantly optimise the quality, operation, profitability and printing result with the GTO. The new GTO models have achieved this target.

LO c^ ГЛе accurate feed register expands the range of application: СТО single and two colour presses achieve four colour printing in the best quality. Infinitely selectable starting point for the lateral distribution: a tool against inkfading. Reliable and flexible: There is practically no job in theaj area which cannot be printed by the СТО. Constant printing quality and availability: Selected material quality and accurate machining are the distinguishing features of engineering at Heidelberg.

The New A3 Classics From Heidelberg: Even More Profitable Printing Quality Using the newly developed direct continuous-type dampening system of the СТО 52 puts money in your pocket due to reduced start-up waste. A stable ink/water balance achieved quickly and an even thin dampening film increase printing quality. All GTO models are equipped with the newly developed Heidelberg continuous-type dampening system as standard. Through this the first good sheet is obtained more quickly after a job change, and the quality is stable during the whole run. Quickly achieved ink/water balance: Via an intermediate roller the dampening system is inked up when starting a job and washed together with the inking system. The advantages of the new dampening system result from improved emulsifying properties. This is achieved by a complete ink-up of the dampening unit when starting the job or after the ink-change. To do this a roller connects the dampening system with the inking unit. During production the intermediate roller runs together with the inking unit and has a positive effect on volume and distribution. The new continuous-type dampening system of the GTO works without alcohol additives and does not need a circulating and cooling device. Via the intermediate roller it is washed together with the inking unit. The quality of the dampening

СТО 52 Single, Two and Four Colours! Newly developed blade fountains and the large storage capacity of the inking units ensure that the OK sheet is very quickly achieved and provide comfortable reserves in quality. levers and adjusting segments possible for 16 ink zones without side effects. With 16 rollers and a storage capacity which is six and a half times greater than the maximum image area, the inking unit of the GTO meets all preconditions for a reliable printing quality. not only has a positive influence on the printing result, but at the same time also increases economic efficiency. The start-up waste drops drastically by more than 50 %! The new ink fountain ensures a quick and accurate setting of the ink. Its laser slit ink blade makes fine metering of ink via scaled Ink-setting free of side-effects: Simple lever adjustment accurately changes the ink profile.

The New A3 Classics From Heidelberg: Reliability and Long Service Life Precise drive: The helical toothing achieves a constant play-free power transmission through its optimal meshing. These design features make the GTO reliable and ensure a long service life. Almost all of the 90,000 GTO printing units delivered until now are in operation all around the world. Helical precision gears drive the GTO. Play-free tooth mesh gives a peaceful printing image in areas and gradations. Bearers make it possible for the printer to control rolling between plate and blanket cylinder. Correct rolling ratios result in a perfect printing quality. At the same time the bearer to bearer pressure helps the presses to run even more smoothly, is gentle on the drive and extends the service life of the printing plate.

СТО 52 Single, Two and Four Colours! Stability for continuous use: The side frames made from a single cast give rollers and cylinders firm bearings with minimum tolerances. The side frames for all GTO models are machined in pairs. In a single setting they pass through all stages of machining. Minimum tolerances are vital for accurate cylinder bearing. Double-row needle bearings in the cylinder sleeves maintain this precision over many million prints. These GTO features are well tried and tested. The same is true of the flexible single sheet feeder and the chain delivery, too. An innovation on the GTO is the brushless drive motor. Parts which tend to wear and tear are eliminated - its availability and reliability is on the increase. Other innovations on the GTO increase safety and operating convenience. Crawl speed, reworked guards and covers meet the latest requirements in safety. The CE and GS sign on the new GTO are a witness to this. Even more safety: The whole length of the sucker bar of the single-sheet feeder is safeguarded against access.

The New A3 Classics From Heidelberg: Simply Versatile Flexibility and versatility: СТО presses have the ideal range of applications for a diverse market. The almost unlimited potential for use of the GTO models reflects the typical diversity of jobs in the АЗ sheet-size class. The spectrum ranges from simple jobs up to demanding fourcolour compositions and deep areas in the full sheet-size. Paper, cardboard, prepacked products like envelopes and blanks, mini formats - the flexible single-sheet feeder transports the most various materials and formats safely and gently into the press. Uncomplicated job change: Whether envelopes, minimum or maximum format, the feeder is quickly adjusted. 10

СТО 52 Single, Two and Four Colours! ^ЩР*' Numbering: The mounting rings offer space for several numbering units in varying arrangement. There is very little set-up work necessary for a job-change and includes sheet travel monitoring. Printing in precise register, numbering, imprinting and perforating in one sheet pass expand the profitable range of application of each GTO - whether single, two or four colours. The numbering and imprinting unit with additional inking unit are extra accessories and will pay for themselves very quickly. Additional inking unit and mounting ring shaft for numbering units, block holders and the support for the perforating disc can be easily removed from the press. Thus a lot of work can be prepared outside the press. Good overview and ideal accessibility simplify the operation and reduce the makeready times for combined printing, numbering, imprinting and perforating in one operation. Perforating: Each GTO offers the possibility of cross and longitudinal perforation against the last impression cylinder. Easily inserted: The additional inking unit enables numbering and imprinting of an additional ink in one sheet pass. ii

The New A3 Classics From Heidelberg: Converting to Fast Sheet Pass GTO two and four colour presses can be delivered as pure straight-printing presses or as convertible to perfecting machines. Convertible GTO presses offer the maximum of diversity. They are extremely good for business as a result of their great flexibility. When used for perfecting they are almost unbeatable. The printing of both sides of the sheet in only one sheet pass reduces processing times even for small job-sizes. Waiting periods for drying are eliminated, on the delivery pile you have the finished product. The technology of perfecting on printing presses from Heidelberg has been tried and tested ten thousand times - and that in all sheet-size classes. The core part is the precise register sheet reversal in a single gripper closure of the pincer gripper system on the reversing drum. The tightening of the rear edge of the sheet on the storage drum before the sheet reversal is also essential for a safe changeover of the sheet position without reducing speed. Finished impression cylinder jackets arranged after the perfecting unit and the rough chromeplated surfaces of the transfer drums reduce the ink build-up to a minimum. The range of application of perfecting is thus almost unlimited. Well-tried perfecting: Sheet travel remains harmonic when the feeding position changes. Smooth change: Before the sheet reversal the end of the sheet is smoothed out and fixed on the storage drum. Safe grip: The pincer grippers turn the sheet in accurate register in one single gripper closure. 12
