33 Going regional (3): Green Freight Asia Network of private sector companies Platform for shippers, carriers and 3PLS to Founding members: Share practices, tools and methodologies to reduce fuel, costs and emissions from freight transport Ensure active participation of the private sector in the development of national green freight policies and programs Adopted: Private Sector Declaration on Green Freight in Asia towards a Green Economy Secretariat:

34 Outline 1. About CAI-Asia 2. Why Green Freight? 3. The Rise of Green Freight in Asia o Update on GF China Development o Overview of GF in Rest Asia 4. Initial Findings 34

35 Initial Findings (1) 1. Green freight: critical for a green economy 2. Avoid first: Avoid-Shift and Improve all are essential 3. Co-benefits: Significant potential for fuel efficiency, fuel costs and emissions reductions 4. Partnership: National programs, through transparent and inclusive partnership building, to be established step-by-step to ensure broad stakeholder involvement and ownership

36 Initial Findings(2) 5. Regional coordination can ensure consistency between programs 6. Private sector involvement critical for success building confidence and trust in technology essential innovative solutions: high cost vs. affordability, copyright vs. cooperation due procedure for local application of new technologies
