3 Our concept of productivity: high dynamics, low running costs and a competitive cost per part. Linear cutting speeds (m/min) Cutting speeds. The benefi ts of a fi ber source combined with Salvagnini s optic chain composed of the transport fi ber and the proprietary focusing head work together to generate a laser beam characterized by high power density. That translates to high speed cutting (more than 60 m/min) on medium and thin materials, without sacrifi cing high quality when cutting thicker materials. +120% +100% +10% +150% +200% +30% +140% +100% +30% The compass: maximum dynamics and minimum consumption. The L5 features an original, patented mechanical drive system consisting of a compass structure, made possible by the absence of a defi ned optical path. This structure is driven by a pair of rotary motors, allowing the cutting head to be moved on the XY plane over a distance of 170 mm, with dynamics of up to 5g and extremely low consumption, on account of its light weight. The compass is the very heart of the mechanical solution patented by Salvagnini, offering similar dynamics to those of linear motors, yet keeping energy consumption and running costs down. 0 0,8 mm GALVANIZED 4 mm 15 mm 0,5 mm ALUMINIUM 5 mm 18 mm 1 mm 6 mm 20 mm 0 2 kw FIBER 3 kw FIBER 4 kw FIBER Cost per hour 3 kw CO 2 Running costs. 4 Our concept of fl exibility: fast production changes on a wide range of materials. High quality cutting with a single optic. Laser TRADJUST. Laser TRADJUST is a revolutionary series of proprietary functions incorporated into the Salvagnini SiX controller. Laser TRADJUST flawlessly combines the requirements of the application with the trajectories generated by CAMFiber to automatically calculate the modulation of cutting parameters as a function of changes in direction, speed and instantaneous acceleration. With a single, predetermined cutting parameter for every material and thickness, regardless of the cutting profi le, the L5 could not be more simple to use. A wide range of machinable materials. Thanks to the wavelength typical of fi ber, the L5 can: effectively cut even highly refl ective materials, such as high purity aluminum alloys, brass and copper metals extremely diffi cult to process on traditional CO 2 systems; combine high speeds with high quality cutting of coated materials such as galvanized steel. The L5 system features a proprietary focusing head developed in-house, that leverages Salvagnini s extensive fi eld experience to maximize the unique characteristics and high dynamics provided by fi ber optic transmission. The single optic head provides high quality cutting across the total range of thicknesses, assuring rapid throughput and eliminating retooling time. 6 7

5 Our concept of automation: fl exibility and logistical effi ciency for a competitive factory. Exclusive solutions for maximum effi ciency. As you would expect from the industry s automation leader, Salvagnini L5 laser systems can be designed for unmanned operation and are easily incorporated into an Automated Job Shop (AJS) or Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). With a broad range of sheet handling devices and a full complement of feeding and unloading connections, Salvagnini components automatically and seamlessly optimize throughput eliminating non-productive operations and costs, while assuring the highest quality of production and a rapid, predictable return on investment. Salvagnini s modular, building block strategy of automation allows customers to evolve their manufacturing tactics, anywhere from stand-alone products to the highest levels of lean automation. System fl exibility drastically reduces production and management costs through unmanned operation, creating factory models that are modern and competitive thanks to the high performance levels achieved. The Salvagnini pallet changer (CPS) makes unmanned operation a reality: during the pallet exchange phase, the table with the processed workpiece always travels beneath the table with the sheet to be cut, avoiding any possibility of cut parts or scrap falling onto the incoming sheet. A simple engineering trick, but surprisingly, turning even the simplest confi guration into a highly effi cient system. L5+CP L5+ADB L5+CPS The ADL connections automate the process of loading sheets and unloading processed parts, increasing the overall effi ciency of the system by eliminating the intermediate handling phases usually performed by an operator. Like almost all Salvagnini products, loading/unloading connections are modular and can be easily integrated with compact, storage towers (MTW, MVL) or with high capacity (MBT, MV) storage towers. L5+ADL L5+ADL.L The MCL is Salvagnini s automatic, integrated system for unloading, separating, and stacking parts produced by laser systems. This component, unique in the marketplace, consists of two rotary manipulators and two grids of separate and independent suction cups that can pick up work pieces weighing as much as 130 kg. More than any other type of connection, the MCL facilitates any number of functional confi gurations and makes fl exible, batch one processing and integration with downstream systems a reality for laser systems. 6 Our concept of quality: consistent performance, ea sy use and simple programming. Airplane structure. The L5 maintains the patented airplane structure of the other Salvagnini laser systems. The principle of a load bearing beam, designed by Salvagnini, makes for an extremely rigid construction and allows fast and accurate positioning along with easy access to the workpiece. The absence of an optical path, eliminates many design limitations and drastically reduces inertia of the system, thanks to the lightened and robust structure with a compact kinetic chain. SRP optical centering sensor. The L5 can be equipped with an optical centering sensor (SRP) that promotes: the fastest workpiece alignment; accurate centering necessary to complete processing when punchings, embossing or deep drawing have already been made on the workpiece. SRP is completely integrated into CAMFiber software and is programmable with a simple mouse click. APC: Adaptive control of lead-in piercing. By controlling the behavior of the material in use in real time and modulating the piercing parameters accordingly, the APC device drastically reduces the total cycle time of the work piece and the consumption of assist gas and energy, while improving quality and process reliability. Software Suites. Salvagnini offers a complete suite of software for management of its laser systems. The many modules that compose the management suite are subdivided into three areas, and assure ease of use, productivity and process integration. Machine SOFTWARE. Every Salvagnini laser system comes completely equipped with a suite of software packages (JOB.CONSOLE) that allows the operator to manage the system in a simple and intuitive way. Particular attention has been placed on the management of diagnostics (EASYDATA) and on maintenance (MAINTENANCE MANAGER) JOB.CONSOLE through user friendly navigation of documentation and proactive management of maintenance checks. In the event the confi guration of the system includes automation, the related management software, loaded on board the machine, will automatically facilitate the handling of stacks, sheets and parts (CM). The on-board programming suite can be augmented by the SIMFiber simulation package and by NestFiberLight nesting software. These packages allow the operator to create CM simple programs or to interactively modify those created in the offi ce, and to retrieve records of production data and events, with output in hardcopy or electronic form. Office SOFTWARE. The METALSTUDIO platform s CAD/CAM+NEST software packages, and the simulation and time-cost analysis packages, are effi cient and user-friendly: the passage from drawing to fi nished product is extremely rapid while operator adjustments on the machine are NESTFIBER minimal or unnecessary: all parameterization of CAM is in fact made exclusively for fi ber. By reducing the incidence of machine programming on the shop fl oor, Salvagnini lasers keep work-in-process low with increased fl exibility and responsiveness to the changing needs of the marketplace. Integration SOFTWARE. Process and management applications are developed inhouse, based on specifi c needs of individual customers (OPS). They allow the integration of Salvagnini systems with a company s MRP/ERP system, effecting an automatic fl ow of information to and from the machine, production programming, and parts manufacture. These custom packages provide a customer increased control, streamlined processes, and a substantial reduction of costs, through the elimination of errors and low value activities. 7 Our concept of ethics: reduced consumption, safe technology and environmental respect. The electronic source: low energy consumption, zero maintenance Compared to a traditional CO 2 laser source, the fi ber source provides energy savings of more than 70% and a reduction of running costs by more than 50%. Practically eliminated is the energy consumption during warm up and standby. The laser is immediately ready to go to work when the machine is powered on, and energy consumption during stand-by (machine, 3 kw resonator, chiller and connections) is always less than 6 kw. Total safety: from fi ber to the source, to the machine. Salvagnini s fi ber laser systems are CLASS 1 machines. The machine comes equipped with all the necessary protection to assure absolute safety in compliance with current standards. Salvagnini lasers are completely enclosed and equipped with a protective cap. The large observation windows are approved for solid state laser use. The source is equipped with advanced beam refl ection control systems on three levels to ensure beam integrity and operational safety. The process fi ber has a diameter of just 50 μm, which engenders a very narrow focal beam with reduced risk. 8 Beyond the machine, you will find even more Salvagnini excellence: innovative training programs, specialized personnel trained in-house and a worldwide customer service network. Training Salvagnini believes strongly in the value of educating those who use its systems, and considers this principle of everincreasing importance to the concept of automation. For this reason, Salvagnini s training program is the synthesis of the company s extensive know-how and of direct experience in processing sheet metal. In addition to standard courses, Salvagnini offers, on request, specific individual training courses on machines and processes at a customer s facility. 14 Technical Support Spare parts The installation of Salvagnini systems is always carried out by highly specialized personnel trained in-house. Thanks to the sophisticated yet intuitive technology of Salvagnini systems and software, customers can always expect a quick response to their questions and can keep their machines up and running with little or no interruption. With recommended preventative maintenance programs, Salvagnini can keep a customers machines at the peak level of efficiency. At some point, all industrial machines require part replacement.
