2 MetroArm - different for a reason MetroArm works with light, not mechanics A camera placed outside the measurement volume observes light sources on the hand-held probe to determine exactly where the probe is. This principle provides many advantages to the user: Placing the camera is very simple and gives us a new level of flexibility with no need to plan for pedestals No forces fed through the tripod With the separate handheld probe, no forces pass through the tripod or mount, improving accuracy and making it easy to place the tripod anywhere. Separate light-weight probe Made from carbon fiber, the handheld probe reduces fatigue and avoids awkward positioning of a large arm. Styli can be long, angled or both The 7-styli set makes it easy to reach any area of the part. Re-configuration of the styli is fast and easy, so a custom stylus can quickly be made to reach particularly tough spots. No joints to wear - reliable and durable Mechanics wear and change with temperature, so warm-up time may be required and scheduled re-calibration is a must. The MetroArm optical approach simply works, with no joints to wear and no mechanics to re-calibrate. No mount inside the measurement volume The camera is placed outside the measurement volume, so no part of the object is covered or inaccessible. The access we get with the probe is just fabulous the difference is bigger than I thought. For our type of measurement aligning custom cast stock for machining if there is a better system I haven t seen it
