Since than the activities were diversified to all other export import related activities such as customs house agency, ship agency, cargo superintendence, ship supplies, stevedoring, ship staffing, mechanical cargo handling, warehousing, dredging and barge/tug operating. The group equipments are used by multinational Corporations in port building activities. Presently the group has also acquired a water front barge jetty from Gujarat Maritime Board at Rozi (Bedi) for a period of 25 years on B.O.T. Basis. 3 ABOUT US Our parent company M/s. Arvind & Co (earlier M/s. K.P.Shah & Co.) was founded in the Nineteen Thirties for Freight Booking and Customs Work. 6 FUTURE PLAN A BRIEF NOTE ON PROPOSED PROJECT Considering the volumes that it ships (2.5 million tons of bauxite in FY06), the availability of storage facilities at the port and berths is extremely critical. Ashapura Minechem Ltd. has invested in a jetty at Bedi port in Jamnagar to ensure regular availability of storage facilities and access to ships at anchorage. We have achieved loading rates of up to 23,500 tons per day at Bedi port. At anchorage, these rates are quite impressive. Thus, the systems and process for shipping operations have contributed significantly to its swift growth. Our ambition is to achieve local rate of 30,000 mt per day at anchorage. In order to further exploit its synergy with the logistics and infrastructure services, Ashapura minechem continues to expand the port operations at Bedi. The JV company has already received approval for further expansion of 150 mtr berth for barges from Gujarat Maritime Board BOT barges for 25 years. The new jetty will have adequate back up and storage area to handle volumes of 30,000 tons per day. The Jetty will mainly service cargo such as minerals, mineral ores, agri-products, fertilizers, timber, steel scrap, etc. The company also intends to get clearances for handling coal. Since the port is an anchorage port, the company has already invested in self- propelled barges to carry on loading and unloading operations at the anchorage site located 1.5 km off shore.
