Dear Forest River Customer: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (US) and the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada). Forest River Office of Corporate Compliance ( OCC ) has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2014 through 2016 model year Rockport - RPAA1270 and RPAF1270. WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE? Certain roller chains installed on TVL 12/16 series lift gates may have been constructed with material from a sub-supplier that was insufficient in material strength properties. EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL. According to a notification received from Thieman Lift Gate, a defect in materials used by a sub-supplier could cause the lift platform to fall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of personal injury to an individual on the platform or person(s) standing nearby. WHAT IS THIEMAN GOING TO DO? The remedy for this recall is available upon receipt of this letter. Forest River is notifying both Owners, Dealerships, and Authorities of this recall. This recall may be corrected at any Thieman Tailgates, Inc. Service Center or Distributor. Thieman Tailgates, Inc. will completely cover the cost of the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything within the scope of this recall. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? The vehicle Owner is responsible for making arraignments to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall for your vehicles Thieman lift-gate and provide the recall number at the top of this notification to the Thieman Tailgates, Inc. Service Center or Distributor and make a service appointment. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy. However, the Thieman Tailgates, Inc. Service Center or Distributor may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule. Rockport Commercial Vehicle 2323 Middlebury St Elkhart, IN Re: Field Co1Tective Action Campaign Our records indicate that Thieman Tailgates sold your company the lift gates/parts shown on the enclosed list. If you are not the c01tect individual to address this issue, please fo1ward this document to the right person within your organization. Reason for the campaign? It has come to our attention that the RC50 roller chains on steel frame TVL125/16 series lift gates, which shipped from Thieman between 9/25/2014 and 7/2/2015, including the units on the attached list, may, as a result of the delivery of defective material to us by a supplier, fail in the field. Parts orders for RC50 roller chains which shipped from Thieman during this time are also at risk. Failure of either the street or curb side roller chain would result in that side of the platform falling immediately to the ground without notice. Most likely, only one chain will fail at a time, thus causing only one side of the platf01m to fall causing an uneven load surface. This could result in personal injury to anyone hit by product falling off the uneven platform or anyone who was on the platform positioning a load at the time of a chain failure. This matter requires immediate attention. What are we doing about the problem? Accordingly, Thieman Tailgates has initiated this Field C01Tective Action Campaign. Implementation of the corrective action is a high priority since failure to replace the chains could result in a failure of the lift gate and personal injury. Please give this letter your immediate attention and take prompt action. Thieman Tailgates will replace the defective chains at no charge and will cover the labor involved with replacing the chains. We estimate the repair will take 4 hours.

4 What Action Should You Take? Please notify the current owners of these lift gates of the need to have the chains replaced. Please have them contact Alan Freeman at ext. 104 to make arrangements to have this important work accomplished. Alan has the necessary instructions for performing this work and can provide a list of parts required. Note that we have discovered some cases where lift chains have failed and distributors have attempted to repair the chain with a connecting link. This should NEVER be done with any chain failure as it does not address the possibility of defective chain, user overload, user misuse, worn or rusted chain, etc., which could affect the integrity of the entire length of chain on either side of the connecting link and could result in subsequent chain failures. In all cases, if a lift chain fails, both street and curb side chains must be replaced. The purpose of this letter is to notify you of this issue and to assure you that we will resolve it in a way that will underscore our reputation for standing behind our products.
