1 About Dansk Retursystem Dansk Retursystem is a non-profit environmental services company. We operate Denmark s deposit and return system, which is among the best in the world. Every year Danes return more than 1.1 billion one-way bottles and cans to us for recycling: more than 3,5 million per day. We are a leading company in recycling high-quality materials. We ensure that the materials can be used again and again to benefit the environment and the earth s natural resources. We have about 480 employees. We collect, sort and separate one-way bottles and cans free of charge from about 15,000 locations in Denmark and then send them for recycling. Our turnover exceeds DKK 1.77 billion. Denmark s breweries own Dansk Retursystem. It is regulated by Denmark s Ministry of Environment and Food. The brewing and retail trades are represented on the Board of Directors. Dansk Retursystem has the exclusive right to operate the Danish deposit and return system, and our overriding task is to get as much packaging returned as possible. We achieve this by continually improving the efficiency of the system and by making it as easy as possible for people to return bottles and cans on which deposits have been paid in both the commercial and private sectors. 1 Dansk Retursystem A/S Management Report 2015

4 Value of recycling Materials can be reused in many ways, but strict requirements apply to materials used for packaging beverages and food. Materials can be reused in many ways, but the value differs. Materials can never move to a higher layer in the pyramid. for example, strict requirements apply to materials used for packaging beverages and food. This means that if a soft drink can has been melted and reused in a bicycle, the material may not be melted won later and used for packaging beverages or food. Hoewever, a can may become a can again and again. This is why high-quality sorting and separating of materials is important for conserving resources and raw materials. Dansk Retursystem strives for the optimal quality of recycling and can thereby ensure that nearly 10 of 10 cans are reused for beverage or food packaging. 5 Life cycle of packaging The Danish deposit and return system is a cyclical business model that comprises the entire chain, including manufacturers of packaging, breweries, retailers, consumers, transport companies and sorting and recycling plants. Collectively, this ensures a resource loop of the highest quality. In 2015, Dansk Retursystem recycled nearly 45,000 tonnes of glass, plastic and aluminium: 8 kg per person. 6 The role of Dansk Retursystem PROFIT Through the collection, separation and recycling of disposable packaging, Dansk Retursystem makes a considerable environmental contribution and performs an important task for the society. PRODUCER Producers and importers of beverages shall register their products with Dansk Retursystem. We ensure correct marking of the packaging in order for these to be collected and recycled the most efficient way. SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS Shops, which are selling packaging subject to deposits, are required to accept the return of deposit-labelled disposable packaging. We assist with technical equipment that makes it easy to collect and separate the packaging and refund the deposit. In order to collectively ensure the highest degree of recycling, Dansk Retursystem secures a close co-operation and dialogue with the different players who are part of the Danish deposit system. PEOPLE RECYCYCLERS Collected packaging are forwarded to European recycling facilities for the purpose of turning these into new packaging. Dansk Retursystem claims tough demands on the quality-requirements of the facilities with whom we work together. CONSUMERS We make it easy for the consumers to return the empty packaging and receive a refund of the deposit.
