3 Foundation This bundle is perfect if you re new to GS1 standards. You ll be introduced to GS1 s Identification Keys for items, locations and logistic units, and learn how to use EAN and UPC barcodes. You ll also learn the importance of uniquely identifying products and why this is crucial for your business, whether you re trading with retailers, hospitals or online. Introduction to GS1 standards (20 mins) This 20-minute module provides an introduction to GS1 standards and a simple and easy-to-understand explanation of GS1 as an organisation. GS1 Identification Keys (60 mins) GTIN (20 mins) This course is an introduction to the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN); the most widely used GS1 Identification Key, used to identify products and services globally across all industries. By the end of the course, you will understand: what a GTIN is and how it is used how a GTIN is structured when a new GTIN is required GLN (20 mins) This course is an introduction to the Global Location Number (GLN), which is the GS1 Identification Key for locations. This course explains what the GLN is and how it is used in EDI, as well as in barcodes, through the use of GS1 Application Identifiers. By the end of the course, you will understand: what a GLN is and how it is used which GS1 Application Identifiers are used with GLNs the Extension Component and its use the various GLN rules

4 SSCC (20 mins) This course is an introduction to the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC), which is the GS1 Identification Key for logistic units. The SSCC is used to help track and trace individual logistic units in the supply chain. By the end of the course, you will understand: what an SSCC is and where it is used the benefits of an SSCC the different usage of SSCCs and GTINs the GS1 Identification Keys Global Shipment Identification Number (GSIN) and Global Identification Number for Consignment (GINC) EAN and UPC barcodes (20 mins) This course is an introduction to EAN and UPC, the most widely used barcode in retail stores. This introductory course provides a summary of the main usage of the four main symbol types and structure of the symbols. It further explores the importance of barcode print quality, colour combinations and permissible symbol sizes. By the end of the course, you will understand: EAN/UPC barcodes and their use the X-dimension truncation and where it can be used the correct colours for barcodes

5 Barcodes Intermediate If you re selling in retail, foodservice or healthcare you ll need to barcode your products. This bundle will help you learn how to do this and how to use different identifiers to encode all sorts of information in your barcodes, like expiry dates, batch numbers and much more. GS1 Identification Identifiers, GS1 Data Matrix, and GS1-128 barcodes (45 mins) Introduction to GS1 Application Identifiers (20 mins) The use of GS1 Application Identifiers, or AIs, is mandatory when using many GS1 barcode symbols. This 20-minute module highlights where the use of GS1 AIs is mandatory and introduces the key concepts in their use and application. An overview of concatenation, or combining multiple AIs into a single barcode, is also provided along with the underlying system logic. By the end of the course, you will understand: what GS1 Application Identifiers (AIs) are how AIs are used concatenation and its rules GS1-128 (10 mins) This course is an introduction to GS1-128, which can be used to represent GTINs, GLNs, SSCCs and product information such as expiry date, batch number, etc. The course outlines the features and benefits of GS1-128 and provides an introduction to the structure of GS1-128 bar code symbols, the use of the Function 1 (FNC1) character and the data content, which is always encoded using GS1 Application Identifiers. By the end of the course, you will understand: what GS1-128 is the features and benefits of GS1-128 the structure of GS1-128

6 GS1 DataMatrix (15 mins) This course is an introduction to the GS1 DataMatrix barcode symbology. The course highlights the main application areas of GS1 DataMatrix and the key advantages of this 2D barcode symbology. By the end of the course, you will understand: what a GS1 DataMatrix is and what its key application areas are how size changes with data content the difference between GS1 DataMatrix and Data Matrix barcodes the quality parameters of GS1 DataMatrix GRAI and GIAI (20 mins) This course covers the two GS1 Identification Keys for assets, the Global Returnable Asset Identifier (GRAI) and the Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI). The course describes assets, which include physical items used in transport, logistics and other company assets such as surgical instruments that need to be identified, recorded and tracked. By the end of the course, you will understand: assets and the different types of assets in the GS1 System the GRAI and its use the GIAI and its use the EPCIS concepts in asset management Prerequisites: GTIN, GLN and SSCC elearns should be taken first

7 Capture and share RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a technology that is being used more and more to capture information in supply chain applications. In this bundle you ll learn about our EPC (Electronic Product Code) standards that have made RFID affordable. And you ll learn about ways information can be shared through EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and GDS (Global Data Synchronisation). Basics of EDI (15 mins) This course covers the basic concepts of GS1 EDI; electronic communication based on standard business messaging which is used in the retail and healthcare sectors. The course covers EDI, GS1 EDI standards, the basics of GS1 messaging and the Global Data Dictionary (GDD). By the end of the course, you will understand: what EDI is and how it works the global standards that provide the basis for GS1 EDI GS1 EDI standards the order to cash process security issues related to EDI Basics of EPC and RFID (10 mins) This course introduces the basics of EPC and the use of RFID. GS1 EPC standards enable globally-unique identification numbers to be used for RFID, with major benefits in the tracking and tracing of products, services and other items in supply chains. By the end of the course, you will understand: how EPC can be used for the unique serialised identification of objects the use of RFID the benefits expected from the adoption of EPC/RFID

8 Global Data Synchronisation (GDS) (40 mins) Introduction to the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) (20 mins) This course provides a high-level introduction to the GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN). GS1 makes data synchronisation possible on a global scale and provides benefits to manufacturers, suppliers, consumers and the healthcare sector. By the end of the course, you will understand: the need for data synchronisation what opportunities and benefits are provided by GDSN how GDSN works Basics of Global Product Classification (GPC) (20 mins) This course provides a basic introduction on classification and the GS1 Global Product Classification (GPC) a rule-based, four-tier classification system for grouping products. GPC is a key component of GDSN, enabling effective category management. By the end of the course, you will understand: the difference between identification and classification GPC and its benefits GPC classification how GPC works in practice

9 Solutions Global supply chains are increasingly complex, and the ability to track and trace the source of raw materials as well as the destination of finished products is vital. Businesses are also increasingly reliant on high quality data for capturing the interest of consumers and driving online sales. Understanding the GS1 solutions in this bundle will enable the streamlining of these business processes. Basics of EPCIS (10 mins) This course introduces the basics of the Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS). EPCIS is a GS1 standard for sharing information about physical events in the supply chain. It includes a number of different aspects, such as tracking and tracing, chain of custody or chain of ownership, and recall - contributing to the safety and security of supply chains. By the end of the course, you will understand: EPCIS and how it enables tracking and tracing in the supply chain the benefits of EPCIS Introduction to traceability (20 mins) This course provides a high-level introduction to GS1 and traceability. GS1 standards make traceability systems possible on a global scale. It doesn t matter how many companies are involved or how many borders are crossed as goods move down the supply chain to the consumer. They also help you to meet regulations and legal requirements as well as making you more efficient and profitable. By the end of the course, you will understand: traceability and why it is important the challenges of traceability and how GS1 standards can help

10 Building a traceability framework based on GS1 standards (25 mins) This course provides knowledge of key concepts to design traceability systems. The focus is on enabling efficient full chain traceability, from raw materials to points of sale, owing to interoperable systems. It is based on the GS1 specific application standard for traceability: the GS1 Global Traceability Standard (GTS). This standard lays the business process framework for traceability implementation. By the end of the course, you will understand: industry sectors and organisations needs for traceability how to give advice on the use of GS1 standards for traceability Prerequisite: the Introduction to traceability elearn should be taken first Introduction to data quality (20 mins) This course provides a high-level and basic introduction to data quality. Data quality is a key enabler of an efficient supply chain. With the growth of global data synchronisation (GDS) adoption and the need for better B2C information, data quality increased supply chain savings and efficiency, as well as providing a trusted source of data to the consumer. By the end of the course, you will understand: why data quality is important the characteristics of good data quality how to ensure good data quality in the supply chain the benefits of good data quality

11 Supply chain Supply chains are increasingly global, and trading partners require visibility of products in transit to meet increased traceability, security and safety requirements. Effective management of the total supply chain is an essential ingredient for business success as the global market place becomes a reality. Introduction to GS1 in transport & logistics (15 mins) This course provides a high level introduction of GS1 standards in transport & logistics. This course will take you behind the scenes of the supply chain; and you will see how GS1 standards help companies optimise transport & logistics processes. By the end of this course, you will understand: the value of the GS1 System in key transport & logistics processes The GS1 Logistics Label (20 mins) This course covers usage and technical requirements of the GS1 Logistics Label. The course outlines the key supply chain benefits and high-level process flows associated with using the GS1 Logistics Label. It provides the primary use cases for the GS1 Logistic Label as well as the technical details on its creation and key mandatory features. By the end of the course, you will understand: the business need for using a GS1 Logistics Label the structure of a GS1 Logistics Label the sizes of a GS1 Logistics Label the placement guidelines Prerequisites: the SSCC and GS1-128 elearns should be taken first
