5 1.0 INTRODUCTION NovaLynx Corporation Model B & M-B Evaporation Gauge Tester Instruction Manual The Evaporation Gauge measures the relative level of water in the evaporation pan. It is nearly impossible to determine the exact level of the water in the evaporation pan at any point in time. NovaLynx Corporation has designed a simple and easy-to-use test instrument for taking direct readings from the Analog Output Evaporation Gauge to provide an accurate measurement of pan level at any one time. Subsequent measurements can be subtracted to determine the evaporation rate by comparing the readings produced against the original reading. The tester has a 5-digit LCD and provides a direct digital reading of the evaporation gauge output signal in millimeters or inches. The programable display is setup at NovaLynx for metric (mm) or english (inches) readings prior to shipment. The Evaporation Gauge must be setup according to the instructions or quick start in the manual and connected to the evaporation pan that is filled with water. The mechanical range of the Evaporation Gauge is 0 to 254 mm or 0 to 10 inches. The electrical range of the gauge is mm or 9.44 inches, due to the dead band of the potentiometer. 2.0 SPECIFICATIONS Range: 0 to millimeters or 0 to 9.44 inches Resolution: 0.01 mm or inches Operating temperature range: 0 to 50 C (32 to 122 F) Accuracy: ± 0.1% of reading DVM Display: 5-digit LCD Waterproof case: Clear ABS, 2.7" x 4.3" x 1.3" Battery: 2 AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries Weight/shipping: 8 oz/1 lb 3.0 OPERATION 1. The tester is shipped with the batteries installed and the programable display is set up in millimeters (mm ) or inches (in). It is a true plug and play operation. 1

6 2. Locate the short 3-pin terminal on the tester case. 3. Attach the evaporation gauge cable wires to the 3-pin terminal strip matching the colors >>> Red / White / Black 4. The LCD reading displayed is the evaporation pan water level. The reading will update every 15 seconds. For a near full pan, the reading will typically be between 210 to 230 mm or 8.4 to 9.0 inches. At this reading the white line on the evaporation gauge sprocket should be at the 1 o clock position. When finished taking the reading you can disconnect the tester or leave it connected. Battery life is approximately 1 year. The small battery indicator bar in the top right of the display shows the battery power remaining. VERY IMPORTANT: When changing the batteries, you must first connect the tester to a USB charger or a USB port on your PC. This will keep power connected to the display while you change the batteries. If the display is not powered up while changing the batteries, all programming will be lost and the display will go blank. If the programming is lost, you can return the tester to NovaLynx for reprogramming or you can reprogram it yourself by downloading a free software program and installing it on your PC. Please contact NovaLynx for more information. Battery Compartment >>> with battery door removed 2
