Setups made by others and instructions given on operating procedures. Work is performed under close supervision and subject to strict process inspection procedures. Second of three levels of Production Machine Operator. Operate one or more standard or special purpose production machines for various operations on rubber, metal, plastic or other material. Generally close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine setups. Notify supervisor or lead machine operator of defective materials and machine malfunctions. Work usually repetitive and subject to process inspection. May be required to use gauges to check work Machine Operation/Support Machine Operator III (Set Up & Operate) Third of three levels of Production Machine Operator. Set up, adjust and operate several standard or special purpose production machines for various operations on rubber, metal, plastic or other material. Generally close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine setups. Work usually repetitive and subject to process inspection. May be required to read part drawings and use adjustable, direct reading and fixed gauges to check work. Diagnose operating problems and make adjustments or minor repairs. Requires a fundamental knowledge of machine shop operations as acquired by short job training and experience Machine Operation/Support Machine Operator I Cell Machine Operation/Support Machine Operator II Cell First level of Cell Machine Operator. Operate assigned machines in cell area to produce finished product. Machine set ups made by others and instructions given on operating procedures. May assist other operators when needed. Experienced Cell Machine Operator. Set up and operate assigned machines in cell area to produce finished product. Make adjustments to machines as needed. Select speeds and feeds; determine operational sequence and tooling arrangements. Work from drawings, specifications and job layouts. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments. May train and assist other operators as needed Machine Operation/Support Machine Operator, Cold Form (Set Up & Operate) Set up, adjust and operate a heavy stamping and cold forming machine and auxiliary equipment to perform operations on a diversified product line having close dimensions, shape and contour. Install tools and auxiliary equipment; make adjustments as needed. Work from drawings, manufacturing instructions, and control plans. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments. Work is under general supervision and subject to inspection and check Machine Operation/Support Machine Operator Lead Machine Operation/Support Milling Machine Operator Experienced Machine Operator with production responsibilities who also coordinates and supports team of machine operators, giving work direction and training; assist supervisor with scheduling and work assignments; give input to performance evaluations; fill in for supervisor as needed. Set up, adjust and operate various types and sizes of milling machines to perform machining operations to close tolerances. May make multi tooled set ups for large work such as machine tool and equipment bases and frames or equivalent; and/or make set ups for difficult operations on work of complicated design where several close, related dimensions must be maintained. Select speeds and feeds, determine operational sequences and tooling arrangements as needed. May improvise standard tooling and attachments for special adaptations. Block, align and secure work pieces of irregular contour or thin section. Work from drawings, specifications and job layouts. Use a variety of measuring instruments. Work is subject to process and final inspection. Requires a knowledge of machining practices and techniques to perform work Machine Operation/Support Power Saw Operator Set up and operate various sizes and types of power saws (circular, band or reciprocating) to cut materials to required length or shape. Install saw blades, set stop gauges for length of cut, material feed mechanisms and saw speeds for type of materials. Use templates to scribe outlines for contour cutting. Work from cutting orders and material code charts. Use rule, square and fixed gauges. Instructions given on assignments and work is subject to process and final inspection Machine Operation/Support Process Machine Operator I (Non complex or Helper) First of three levels of continuous, high speed, high volume machine operation; highly repetitive operation following prescribed routine or where the method of operation is obvious. Involves high volume production tasks such as cut, form, package, seal, wrap, print, label, sort, etc. May inspect and test completed product. Work may include walking or standing most of the time. Include helpers if no previous experience is required. Work typically involves operation of machinery or equipment that is unique to the application and does not require formal training in a trade. All instructions typically given on the job. The job typically requires a high school education and the ability to follow demonstrated steps and perform simple adjustments. Report machine tool operation elsewhere Machine Operation/Support Process Machine Operator II (Moderate Complexity) Second of three levels of continuous, high speed, high volume machine operation; diversified operations that are moderately complex, requiring monitoring, adjusting or aligning of equipment. Involves high volume production tasks such as cut, form, package, seal, wrap, print, label, sort, or otherwise process materials. May load materials to feeders and clear jams. Inspect or test completed product. Work may involve frequent handling of moderate to heavy materials and walking or standing most of the time. Typically requires high school level reading, basic math skills, the ability to use common hand tools and 2 years of experience or less. Report machine tool operation elsewhere.
