Outstanding thermal effi ciency: Products enclosed in EPS containers can be maintained for long periods at temperatures above or below ambient conditions and can be protected from sudden temperature changes that can occur in transport through different climatic zones. Custom moulded EPS packaging benefi ts 4 Moisture resistance: The low water absorption and water vapour permeability characteristics make EPS packaging ideal where moisture is a problem. EPS containers will not loose their strength even if wet. Enhanced product presentation: The clean white fi nish of EPS provides an excellent background to display your product. There are no shreds, shavings or dust to spoil the goods. 6 7 Faster packaging time: EPS packaging is easily handled and does not require labour intensive assembly. Reduced warehouse costs: The strength and rigidity of EPS means that EPS packaged goods can be stacked to maximise vertical warehouse space. It is the package and not the product that supports the load. Reduced transport costs: The light weight of EPS reduces freight costs and energy consumption during transport. Notes: Dimensions and volumes are approximate only as all boxes are slightly tapered. Units: Dimensions are in millimetres, Internal Volume is in litres, Shipping Volume is in cubic metres. External height includes the lid.

6 How Barnes is expanding your future EPS shape moulded products These include Voidforms, packaging for aquaculture, produce, white goods and other manufactured articles. Engineered components, drop test approved packaging for the computer industry and bicycle helmets are just a small cross-section of the shape moulding range. NEW ZEALAND Barnes 68 Church Street Penrose, Auckland 1061 PO Box Penrose, Auckland 1642 Telephone: Facsimile: AUSTRALIA The manufacturing process of EPS Expandable polystyrene (EPS) is supplied as plastic beads in which an expanding agent, usually pentane, has been dissolved. In the presence of steam the thermoplastic polystyrene softens and the increasing vapour pressure of the expanding agent causes the beads to expand up to 0 times their original volume. During this stage the degree of expansion is controlled to achieve the desired density. Once expanded the material is allowed to stand in large silos to allow the infusion of air to replace the expanding agent, which stabilises the material. The stabilised material is then transferred into closed moulds where it is further expanded and fused by again heating with steam. EPS is a light weight, versatile, durable and economical material ideally suited to a wide range of uses from insulation, packaging and fl oatation to void fi lling and decorative fi nishes. Isolite block products Manufactured primarily for the building industry and used in coolrooms, light weight panels, voids, building facades, wall, roof and fl oor insulation. It is also used in architectural design projects, marinas, pipe insulation, road construction and many other customer specifi ed requirements. 6 Recycling Barnes EPS can be recycled. Recycled EPS can be granulated for use in construction applications or blended to make a range of plastic products in everyday use including cassette casing and coat hangers. Expanded polystyrene does not contain any ozone depleting substances and none is used in its manufacture. Barnes pursues a policy of continuous improvement in the design and performance of its products. The right is therefore reserved to vary specifi cations without notice.
