7 AP17 General Observations The future system must support ATS and AOC end-to-end communications including air/ground and air/air Emphasis first in data communications digital voice in a next step No single technology meets all requirements across all operational flight domains The future system will be a system of systems integrating existing communication systems (voice, VDL) as well as new communications systems to meet the operational requirements No COTS technologies have been identified that can be adopted as new components of the future system without some modification
