1 Press release Successful 2014 financial year: more than 10 million tonnes of goods moved by inland waterway and rail, over 31 million tonnes total goods moved bayernhafen Gruppe records significant growth in goods moved by inland waterway and rail Regensburg, 9 February 2015 The investments made by bayernhafen Gruppe to shift freight traffic to the environmentally friendly modes of transport inland waterway and rail are bearing fruit: in 2014, the bayernhafen Gruppe locations in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg and Passau moved a total of million tonnes of goods by inland waterway and rail, with 6.28 million tonnes moved by train and 4.03 million tonnes by barge. This is a 2.88% increase in rail freight on the previous year (2013: 6.1 million tonnes) and an 11.03% (2013: 3.6 million tonnes) increase in inland waterway freight. The cumulative freight transferred by rail and inland waterway in 2014 is also impressive when compared with the long-term average: at million tonnes, bayernhafen Gruppe s combined ship and rail transshipments were approximately 6.5% above the 2005 to 2014 average of around 9.68 million tonnes per year. This demonstrates the clear advantages of inland waterways in years free of adverse weather conditions or industrial disputes. In bayernhafen Regensburg alone the amount of goods transported by barge grew by 0.55 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes in 2014, allowing bayernhafen Regensburg to further consolidate its position as the largest Bavarian port for inland waterway freight transport. This marked growth in freight moved by barge and train is also reflected in the total amount of goods moved: in 2014, bayernhafen Gruppe broke the sound barrier of 30 million tonnes for the first time, achieving cumulative inland waterway, rail and road freight transport of million tonnes across all six bayernhafen locations. This is an increase of 4.33% on the million tonnes moved in At the same time, container throughput also increased in 2014 to a total of 413,244 TEU (standard units), up 4.25% on the previous year. One of our primary goals is to bring about a modal shift in long-distance freight transport, says Joachim Zimmermann, Chief Executive Officer of bayernhafen Gruppe: Key to achieving this goal are ports with excellent transport connections that enable intelligent interlinking of the three transport modes in the transport chain. In recent years, we have focused investments on infrastructure and commercial sites. Other additional measures include the rolling road, the development of innovative freight-handling technologies such as NiKRASA, and our initiatives for new inland waterway and rail connections. All these activities serve to ensure that more freight Page 1 of 9

2 will be shifted to inland waterway and rail. Naturally, road transport will still continue to play an indispensable role, particularly in the initial and last mile legs of the transport chain. Inland shipping excels in terms of transport performance The extent of the modal shift becomes more apparent when, instead of considering the tonnage of goods transshipped, one considers the transport performance of each of the modes of transport in terms of tonne kilometres: data provided by the Research Information System of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure showed that, in 2013, freight was transported an average of 303 kilometres by rail in Germany and 263 kilometres by barge. Road transport, which in particular handles the initial and last mile legs, only transported freight on average 97 kilometres. Joachim Zimmermann: We calculated the tonne kilometres for inland shipping for 2014 at all of our bayernhafen locations. The average transport distance for inland shipping is 700 kilometres. It is, for example, a significantly greater distance from Regensburg to Rotterdam than from the Ruhr valley. The total for all of the bayernhafen locations combined amounts to around 2.8 billion tonne kilometres and that s just for river barges. New environmentally friendly loading system NiKRASA takes the pressure off the road network In 2014, bayernhafen Gruppe presented its new loading system, NiKRASA 1, which it developed for the European freight transport sector in cooperation with TK Logistik and LKZ Prien. NiKRASA makes it possible for previously non-cranable semi-trailers to be loaded onto trains. NiKRASA has been offering successful combined transport operation since the summer of 2014, such as between the Danish town of Padborg and Verona in Italy. NiKRASA is making a valuable contribution to shifting more freight from road to rail. NiKRASA is already suitable for around 80% of standard trailers, says Alexander Ochs, Chief Financial Officer of bayernhafen Gruppe. The system offers freight forwarders and terminals complete flexibility, because their equipment does not need to be adapted. Investment in locations and infrastructure consistently pursued bayernhafen Gruppe sees its role as site architect, as an active facilitator in the development of logistics solutions and networks spanning different companies and locations. This allows bayernhafen to cooperate closely with the businesses settled in the ports to tap new potential for value creation, and strengthens the position of the ports as logistics hubs and a major platform for the global exchange of goods. Consequently, 2014 saw bayernhafen Gruppe invest in total approximately 12 million in its locations in particular in the regeneration and development of commercial sites. One of the projects was the successful redevelopment and the reorganisation of the south quay site in the West Port in bayernhafen Regensburg. 1 The product name NiKRASA is a shortened version of the German Nicht kranbare Sattelauflieger, which can be translated as non-cranable semi-trailers. 3 This project is important in the light of the forthcoming expansion of the container terminal. In bayernhafen Passau, bayernhafen Gruppe built a second depot for deicing salt. Additionally, in 2014, bayernhafen Gruppe acquired a new material-handling machine for bayernhafen Bamberg which moves on crawler tracks, enabling it to move freely anywhere within the port area. This investment demonstrates bayernhafen Gruppe s commitment to strengthening the role of the waterfront as a key interface in the transport chain. For 2015, bayernhafen Gruppe plans to invest in total around 13 million in its locations, including in rail infrastructure and in a material-handling machine for bayernhafen Aschaffenburg. Successful year for resident companies in 2014 In April 2014, the family-owned freight forwarding company, Herbst Transporte und Logistik, put its new steel logistics centre in bayernhafen Bamberg into operation, with the company Köstner Stahllogistik using its 10,000 m 2 floor space and high-bay storage system. Since September 2014, CEMEX Deutschland AG s new cement loading facilities have been in operation in bayernhafen Regensburg. The state-ofthe-art facilities, built by CEMEX s main forwarder in Bavaria, Karl Mossandl GmbH & Co., consist of four silos holding a total volume of 6,000 tonnes. Since 2004, the cement has been supplied by rail from Rüdersdorf near Berlin. UPS, the largest parcel delivery company in the world and to date one of the biggest tenants in bayernhafen Nuremberg, constructed a three-storey car park for its 300+ employees on a site of approximately 8,000 m 2 an excellent example of the prudent use of available space. On the former employee car park, UPS expanded its operations by adding a freight depot along with additional parking spaces for trucks and extra storage areas for containers. Furthermore, the company constructed a new reception and service building. In 2014, greenfield development GmbH began the construction of a new logistics facility at bayernhafen Nuremberg with a total approximate area of 40,000 m 2. The first construction phase of 20,000 m 2 is to be completed by March 2015, with 10,000 m 2 of the total area already leased to Hellmann Worldwide Logistics to provide services to a supplier in the automotive industry. All these new innovations show that industrial companies, commercial enterprises and service providers are making use of the benefits our ports offer to sustainably develop their own businesses, says Joachim Zimmermann. Boom in the cruise sector In 2014, 796 cruise ships carrying almost 130,000 passengers docked at the port of Bamberg, an increase of 44%. As a result, bayernhafen Gruppe is building a further docking facility for cruise ships. In Regensburg, where bayernhafen Gruppe shares joint responsibility for operating the landing stage for river cruise ships with the city council, a total of 1,044 cruise ships docked in 2014, compared with 788 in Page 3 of 9

4 Nuremberg also saw an increase in the number of hotel ships coming into dock. Since October 2014, bayernhafen Nuremberg has provided additional berths for cruise ships in order to ease the existing bottlenecks. The passenger cruise terminal the city is building on the Main-Danube canal will be completed by the end of Page 4 of 9
