2 SCHEME OF TESTING & INSPECTION FOR CERTIFICATION OF POTASSIUM IODATE, FOOD GRADE, ACCORDING TO IS 15694:2006 (Reaffirmed in 2016) 1.0 LABORATORY - A laboratory shall be maintained, which shall be suitably equipped and staffed, where different tests given in the specification shall be carried out in accordance with the method given in the specification. 1.1 All the testing apparatus shall be periodically checked and calibrated and records of such checks/calibration maintained. 2.0 TEST RECORDS All records of analysis and tests shall be kept in suitable forms approved by the Bureau. 2.1 Copies of any records may be required by the Bureau shall be made available at any time on request. 3.0 QUALITY CONTROL It is recommended that, as far as possible, Statistical Quality Control (SQC) methods may be used for controlling the quality of the product during production as envisaged in this Scheme [See IS 397 (Part 1):2003, IS 397 (Part 2):2003 and IS 397(Part 3):2003]. 3.1 In addition, efforts should be made to gradually introduce Quality Management System in accordance with IS/ISO STANDARD MARK The Standard Mark(s) as given in Column (1) of the First Schedule of the license shall be stenciled with indelible ink on each pack/container of Potassium Iodate, Food Grade or printed on the label applied to it, provided always that the material in each container to which this Mark is thus applied, conforms to every requirement of the specification. 5.0 MARKING 5.1 Each container shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the following information: a) Name the product including the word Food Grade and brand name if any; b) Name and address of the manufacturer; c) Source of manufacture; d) Minimum net contents; e) Date of manufacture; f) Batch or code number; g) The words Best before. (Month and Year to be indicated); and h) Any other requirements as specified under the Standards of weights and Measures (Packaged commodities) Rules, 1977 and the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 and Rules framed thereunder. i) Licence No. (CM/L ) j) BIS website address:

3 6.0 PACKING: The material shall be packed in well- filled containers with minimum access to moisture. The containers shall be such as to preclude contamination of the contents with metals or other impurities. 6.1 STORAGE: The material shall be stored in a cool, dry place so as to avoid excessive exposure to heat. 7.0 LEVELS OF CONTROL The analysis and tests as indicated in Table 1 and at the levels of control specified therein, shall be carried out on the whole production of the factory which is covered by this scheme and appropriate records and charts maintained in accordance with paragraph 2 above. All the production which conforms to the Indian Standards and covered by this license shall be marked with the Standard Mark. 7.1 CONTROL UNIT For the purpose of this Scheme, Potassium Iodate manufactured in one day shall constitute a control unit. 7.2 On the basis of test results, the decision regarding conformity or otherwise of a control unit to a given requirement shall be made. 7.3 If it fails in any one or more of the requirements, the entire material in the control unit shall be considered as unfit for the purpose of marking. 8.0 RAW MATERIALS Routine analysis of various raw materials going into the manufacture of Potassium Iodate shall be made on each lot received in the factory or alternatively raw materials of known composition may be used by ensuring the test certificate from supplier. 8.1 HYGIENIC CONDITIONS - The product shall be processed, packed, stored and distributed under hygienic Conditions. (See IS 2491:2013). 9.0 In respect of all other Clauses of the specification and at all stages of manufacture, the factory shall maintain appropriate controls and checks to ensure that their product conforms to the requirements of those clauses REJECTIONS - A separate record shall be maintained giving information relating to the rejection of the production not conforming to the requirements of the specification and the method of its disposal. Such material shall in no case be stored together with that conforming to the specification SAMPLES - The licensee shall supply, free of charge, the sample(s) required in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (Certification) Regulations, 1988, as subsequently amended, from his factory or godowns. The Bureau shall pay for the samples taken by it from the open market REPLACEMENT Whenever a complaint is received soon after the goods with Standard Marks have been purchased and used, and if there is adequate evidence that the goods have not been misused, defective goods or their components are replaced or repaired free of cost by the licensee, in case the complaint is proved to be genuine and the warranty period (where applicable)

4 has not expired. The final authority to judge the conformity of the product to the Indian Standard shall be with the Bureau. The firm should have its own complaint investigation system as per IS/ISO STOP MARKING The marking of the product shall be stopped under intimation to the Bureau, if at any time, there is some difficulty in maintaining the conformity of their product to the specification, or the testing equipment goes out of order. The marking may be resumed as soon as the defects are removed under intimation to Bureau. The marking of the product shall be stopped immediately if directed to do so by Bureau for any reason. The marking may then be resumed only after permission is given by the Bureau. The information regarding resumption of markings shall also be sent to the Bureau PRODUCTION DATA The licensee shall maintain production data as per enclosed Proforma-1, which may be authenticated by a Chartered Accountant or by the licensee by giving affidavit /undertaking (which may be required along with renewal application). The licensee shall sent to the Bureau as per the enclosed Proforma-1, a statement of quantity produced, marked and exported by him and the trade value, thereof, at the end of each operative year of the licence.
