I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and are ready to get back into the swing of things. Congratulations to Leah Fastenau and Emily Sylvester who made the PMEA District 10 Band. This festival will be held at Easton High on January 3,4, and 5. There will be one concert on Friday January 5 at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door. It being as close as it is I encourage everyone to go to it and hear what a band comprised of the best high school musicians in the 7 surrounding counties sounds like. You will not be disappointed. In addition to district band, we have 13 students who will be participating in Northampton County Band, also at Easton High School. They are Shane Deacon, Leah Fastenau, Jacquelyn Boyd, Alexa Sciarra, Isabelle Jabbour, Emily Sylvester, Emily Shingara, Morgan Cahill, Cailah Baran, Josh Noel, Kevin Raneri, Chris Noel, and Luke George. The concert will be on Saturday March 17 at 7:00pm. The Wind Ensemble will be combining with Liberty band students for a performance at the Sands Event Center on March 20th. It will be the same performance they did in October for the PSBA convention in Hershey. This performance will be for the 3rd annual BAEF dinner/fundraiser. We have two trips currently, the overnight trip to New York and the cruise next year. Both are pending board approval. Please be sure to make your payments on time. Thanks very much to Julie Pineiro, Jen Chomo, and Brenda Cahill for handling so much of the organization of both trips and keeping track of payments. The trips page on the website will be updated with information on both trips after Jan. 3 in addition to the info in this newsletter so check back there for upcoming information. Finally, don't forget about the Bingo fundraiser on January 26 at 6:30pm. Come out, have fun while supporting the band and orchestra! VOL. 50, NO. 6 (continued on last page)

2 Page 2 Student Accounts The Scoop on Student Accounts and Trip Payments: As we embark upon this busy holiday season, FHSBOPO also begins payment programs for two trips (NYC in April 2018 and Bermuda in April 2019), so I thought we should go over a few things. Only students can use their student account balances for trip payments. Tagalongs must make their payments by check. It is fine to combine several passengers payments in one check or to cover several months payments in one check. Checks can be mailed to me at home or your students can put them in Mr. Moran s mailbox. I ll come to school once a week to collect them. My home address is Julie Piñeiro, 730 Pine Top Drive, Bethlehem, PA I will post all checks as I receive them, and I ll make trip deductions from the student accounts as we go. For example, the initial deposit of $100 for Bermuda is due on December 15. On December 22, I will deduct $100 from the accounts of all kids going on the trip and post the updated balances. This way you ll know exactly how much money is left in your student s account for the next payment. I usually make the deductions a week after each payment due date. I don t post account balance information for the tagalongs on Mr. Moran s website, because we don t have a way to protect everyone s privacy like we do by using the kids student ID numbers. I do keep an account line for each person going on the trip, though, so tagalongs are welcome to me with questions about their accounts. The accounting for big trips like Bermuda can get confusing. Families will be fundraising and making payments over an extended period of time. Some families might be paying for the New York City trip as well. Feel free to contact me anytime you have a question I m happy to go over the numbers with you: fhsbopoaccounts@yahoo.com Thanks!
