2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Lean Summit Africa 2018 is the 9th Summit hosted by the Lean Institute Africa. The Summit brings local and international speakers together with lean practitioners from across Africa. Their collective experience of lean implementation is unparalleled in Africa. At the Summit, the latest lean thinking and practice in both the private and public sectors will be presented alongside case studies from across South Africa. The Summit aims to present lean management to those who are new to it, and inspire and motivate those already using lean management in their organisations. The theme of the Summit this year is Transforming Organisations and Lives Through Purpose-Process-People and the keynote speakers are Takeyuki Furuhashi, International Lean Practitioner (Japan) Kim Barnas, CEO of Catalysis, Healthcare Improvement Centre (USA) and David Brunt, Chief Executive of Lean Enterprise Academy (UK). THE LEAN INSTITUTE AFRICA The Lean Institute Africa (LIA) is a not-for-profit company, established to promote lean management in Africa. LIA s Vision is: Contributing to better organisational outcomes and quality of life by advancing Lean Thinking and Practice in Sub-Saharan Africa. We aim to achieve our vision by building the community of lean practitioners through co-learning partnerships, action research and knowledge sharing. LIA s approach enables them to provide high-quality content in their workshops, experience based facilitation in our educational programmes and high-impact results for the private and public sector organisations with which we partner. LIA is based at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town and is a member of the Lean Global Network, a world-wide network of 25 not-for-profit lean institutes which disseminates the accumulated learning of effective lean thinking. Delegates at the Lean Summit Africa are predominantly drawn from the South African corporate sector, and represent designations from senior managers to CEOs and directors. Many delegates have a specific focus on process improvement, including some consultants who have a reach that extends to both the private and public sectors. While the Summit hosts participants from a wide variety of sectors, both public and private, representation from the health, automotive, financial services, manufacturing, HR and IT sectors is particularly strong. 2 3
