1 UW Institute fr Clinical and Translatinal Research Pre-Prpsal DUE February 5, Request fr Applicatins Evidence t Implementatin Award This is a NEW AWARD, intended fr investigatrs wh: Have develped a successful interventin (care mdel, behaviral/health interventin, digital innvatin, devices) that meets a specific demand in healthcare r the cmmunity and has the ptential fr significant impact Are cmmitted t disseminating and implementing their wrk bradly in practice Are willing t wrk with the Disseminatin & Implementatin (D&I) Launchpad Team in develping materials and plans and delegate, when necessary, t supprt implementatin Are pen t have their implementatin materials disseminated and marketed publically, such as psting n the HIPxChange: The UW Institute fr Clinical & Translatinal Research is cmmitted t supprting the translatin f research int practice. Specifically, ver the next 5 years, ICTR aims t develp targeted implementatin supprt fr high-demand research thrugh ICTR s D&I Launchpad Prgram. In supprt f this aim, the purpse f this award is t expedite the transfer r cmmercializatin f evidence-based practices, interventins, and innvatins t apprpriate end-users. Definitins: Disseminatin is the targeted distributin f infrmatin and interventin materials t a specific audience. The intent is t spread knwledge regarding an assciated evidencebased interventin Implementatin is the use f strategies t adpt and integrate evidence-based health interventins, and change practice patterns within specific settings ICTR-CAP D&I Launchpad Prgram: is a cnsultatin service that prvides resurces t bridge the gap between research and practice. Services include faculty mentring, educatin and training, research cnsulting, cmmunicatins supprt, and implementatin supprt. Additinal infrmatin abut the D&I Launchpad Prgram can be fund in Appendix A f this RFA and at This award supprts the creatin f a Launchpad Package t supprt the disseminatin and implementatin f the evidence-based interventin r innvatin. The elements f the Launchpad Package will be unique t each prject, but may include a business plan, market research, pricing & marketing strategy, value prpsitin, tlkits, implementatin guides, training curriculum, vides, checklists, disseminatin and prmtinal materials, health educatin materials, evaluatin tls, etc. This award is intended t disseminate/implement evidence generated, at least in part, by researchers at UW-Madisn r Marshfield Clinic Research Institute Page 1 f 5

2 UW Institute fr Clinical and Translatinal Research Successful awardees will be given pririty cnsideratin fr extended implementatin supprt thrugh ICTR s D&I Launchpad Prgram A small pilt test and evaluatin f the Launchpad Package will be included in the activities f the award Matching funds and/r in-kind supprt frm Applicant s Department is a psitive Award: This award includes up t $40,000 in direct csts, in additin t substantial in-kind D&I Launchpad Prgram resurces fr up t 18 mnths. This award prvides direct supprt and in-kind resurces frm the ICTR D&I team f experts. The D&I Launchpad team will wrk clsely with the applicant thrughut the award perid. In-kind supprt will include business cnsultatin, translatin, packaging, cmmunicatins, evaluatin, and implementatin science services Develping a successful Launchpad Package requires researcher input; this award is intended t supprt PI time t participate in this iterative prcess. Expectatins fr applicant participatin, as well as D&I Launchpad team participatin, will be specified in a mutually agreed upn timeline with milestnes. Funding and in-kind supprt will be predicated n milestne accmplishment The budget prpsal will be develped in cnsultatin with the ICTR D&I Launchpad team, and in-kind supprt frm the D&I Launchpad Prgram will be detailed in the budget Length f award will be determined based n start-date and Launchpad Package prpsed and develped in cnjunctin with the D&I Launchpad team N-cst extensins will nt be cnsidered Applicant Eligibility This award is intended t disseminate and implement evidence generated by researchers at UW-Madisn r Marshfield Clinic Research Institute. The PI must have faculty r scientist status at UW-Madisn r Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (either sle r jint appintment) PI must be mtivated t see their research implemented in practice and willing t wrk in tandem with the D&I Launchpad team t develp the Launchpad Package thrugh pilt implementatin The PI fr this award is nt required t be the individual wh cnducted the evidencebased research, althugh the researcher cntributing t the evidence shuld be a cllabratr in the disseminatin effrts Page 2 f 5

3 UW Institute fr Clinical and Translatinal Research Imprtant Applicatin Dates Pre-prpsal Deadline February 5, 2018 (due 5 pm) D&I Team Meeting with Applicant: Prject Analysis February 12, 2018-March 23, 2018 Review Perid April 2018 Awards Annunced & Grant Start Date May 2018 APPLICATION PROCESS and COMPONENTS (1) STEP ONE: Pre-prpsal: DUE FEBRUARY 5, 2018 Pre-prpsals must be submitted as a single PDF/Wrd dcument t capgrants@lists.wisc.edu n later than 5:00 pm n February 5, Yur pre-prpsal shuld be n lnger than 2-3 pages, (Arial 11 pt. fnt, 1 in. margins). Applicant s Name, Departmental Affiliatin, Psitin, and Cntact infrmatin shuld be indicated at the tp, and pre-prpsal MUST answer the fllwing 5 questins (Please number each respnse): 1. Describe what will be disseminated and hw the evidence was established a. Brief descriptin f the scientific develpment f the prgram/interventin: prepst, efficacy, r effectiveness trials b. Brief descriptin f the prgram/interventin: What des it invlve? Wh perfrms it, what training is needed t perfrm it in practice, what setting is it designed fr? 2. What is the specific prblem yur prgram/interventin addresses? 3. Hw is this prblem currently being addressed in practice? 4. Why is yur prgram/interventin better than current practice? a. 4 UW Institute fr Clinical and Translatinal Research (2) STEP TWO: D&I Prject Analysis Meeting. Eligible applicants with pre-prpsals that strngly align with the gals f this prgram, and are within the scpe f the award, will be invited t mve n t Step 2, which cnsists f a Prject Analysis Meeting invlving the applicant and the Launchpad Team. Applicants will be ntified abut whether they have been invited t advance t Step 2 in February. Thse advancing t Step 2 will be cntacted t schedule a Prject Analysis Meeting with the Launchpad Team. Meetings will be scheduled between February 12, March 23, Gal f the Prject Analysis Meeting (multiple cnsultatins may be needed): 1. Expand upn respnses t the 5 questins in the pre-prpsal, fcusing specifically n develping a clear statement f demand, a value prpsitin, and mechanism f sustainability based n Lean startup principles. The pre-prpsal with this expanded infrmatin will ppulate the Implementatin Readiness Wrksheet. The D&I Launchpad Prject Manager will lead this prcess. The final prduct will be signed by the applicant. 2. Budget and Disseminatin Plan: The D&I Launchpad team and applicant will c-develp a budget and disseminatin plan. The budget will include an expense line fr a small pilt test and evaluatin f the D&I package, and will detail in-kind supprt. 3. Timeline and milestnes will be jintly develped. The milestnes will reflect the iterative nature f the award perid. Funding will be tied t meeting milestnes. Failure t meet milestnes may lead t discntinuatin f the prject. Final Applicatin: The final applicatin will be created in cnjunctin with the Launchpad Team during Step 2 f this applicatin prcess (Step 2: Prject Analysis Meeting). The final applicatin will include the fllwing cmpnents: Implementatin Readiness Checklist, Budget, Disseminatin Plan, and Timeline with Milestnes. APPLICATION REVIEW INFORMATION 1. A preliminary review f the pre-prpsal will be cnducted by the ICTR-CAP Pilt Awards Manager fr cmpleteness and frwarded t the ICTR Launchpad Team. 2. Applicants wh are eligible and pre-prpsals that are within scpe and have strng alignment with the gals f this prgram will be invited t mve n t Step Applicatin materials develped during Step 2, will be submitted t the D&I Cuncil (r a subset f the cuncil). The D&I Cuncil will review applicatins and make funding recmmendatins t ICTR leadership. The D&I Cuncil cnsists f UW-Madisn faculty and staff and cmmunity members with expertise in healthcare, public health, and Disseminatin and Implementatin. a. The D&I Cuncil prvides verall strategic directin fr the D&I Launchpad Prgram, ensures cnnectivity with healthcare and cmmunity rganizatins, advises n gaps, needs, changes, and pprtunities ccurring in the health system, and prvides a real-wrld assessment and priritizatin f interventins and prducts being cnsidered fr cmmercial develpment and implementatin thrugh ICTR s D&I Launchpad Prgram. b. Successful prjects will be thse that meet a specific demand in the health sectr, ffer a clear advantage fr the implementing rganizatin, and have the ptential fr substantial impact.
