5 Shopper Profile The store targets an LSM 3-6 customer base, and caters for both trade customers (20%) and consumers (80%) Trade customers range from large local supers and spaza stores, to hawkers, schools, and informal township-based catering establishments Affiliated customers from Overland Express and Best Buy Express franchise and banner stores form a vital part of the Overland C&C customer base

6 Range With +26,000 active SKU s, the range spans bulk pack commodities through to groceries, personal and home care Primary lines in store are commodity products such as maize, rice and flour

7 Focus Categories Commodities Overland C&C focuses on KVI s such as washing powder, rice, maize, oil, IQF Chicken, flour and sugar as the key driver of sales Snacks Snacks are a top seller in store Cheaper, secondary brands are beginning to play more of a role Soft Drinks Within the soft drinks category, brands such as Twizzer and Fusion selling at more competitive price points, are showing growth ahead of the category leaders

8 Merchandising Products are merchandised in cases, shrinks and single units Pallet-based merchandising prevalent Broad principals of forward share/market share apply Smaller pack sizes are merchandised at eye level, while larger pack sizes and shrinks are merchandised above

9 Merchandising High Value Items Over a span of about 3 years, the store lost approximately R4m worth of stock to pilferage High value items such as tobacco, medicinal and airtime vouchers are merchandised behind the counter and inside the kiosk

10 Private Label Overland carries two private label lines: o UNITY, the UIH private label offering is strongly supported by Overland C&C and features prominently in the centre of the monthly promotional leaflet and in terms of forward share o UNITY SKU s include biscuits, canned food, household cleaning, maize, flour, sauces, vinegar and toilet paper o The Overland private label brand also features prominently in store, primarily in non-foods categories such as charcoal, briquettes and firelighters, but also with a limited foods range

11 Promotions Promotional stock is advertised across a number of platforms including monthly promotional leaflets, gondola ends, midaisle displays, dump bins, mobile branded display units and wash line banners Overland C&C prints approximately 4,500 leaflets monthly, of which 1,000 are mailed out to data base customers Over-and-above the monthly promotion, Overland runs approximately 11 themed promotions throughout the year such as Birthday, Valentines, Easter, Winter Drive, Summer and Stokvel

12 Distribution The store is serviced by the 75,000m² Overland DC located less than 2km away Approximately 90% of stock is sourced from the DC which has a delivery radius of 300km and services the C&C and local independent traders, as well as Overland banner and franchise operators
