2 Executive Summary Supplier capability in China FASHION ACCESSORIES China s fashion accessories industry is positive that overseas sales will continue to increase in 2011 on the back of robust growth in the previous year. Customs statistics show that in the six months from August 2010, outbound shipments of apparel complements exceeded $8.1 billion, rising 32 percent YoY. North America, the EU and the Asia- Pacific region each accounted for about one-fourth of revenue. To cement the sector s recovery from the economic downturn, makers are launching R&D initiatives that will boost product appeal. This will also allow suppliers to augment prices amid surging manufacturing costs. Most design enhancements concern material safety and sustainability. These are supported by government mandates to monitor toxic substances in export models and for the reform of dyeing, tanning and plating plants. Scope & methodology This report covers the major products of China s fashion accessories industry, namely belts and buckles, eyewear, gloves, hats, caps, hair ornaments, hosiery, scarves, shawls, and bow and neckties. Each category has its own section discussing design trends specific to the line. It also details the features and prices of low-end, midrange and high-end models. The manufacturing and QC processes are included as well. Further, the chapter elaborates on the industry composition, highlighting key characteristics of the different types of companies. The Industry Overview explains suppliers strategies for bolstering sales even with higher product prices. Zhejiang province and Shanghai are the main sourcing centers.
