1 Creative BC is an independent, not-for-profit agency created by the Province of B.C. to strengthen and promote B.C. s creative sector which includes film, television, digital and interactive media, music and magazine and book publishing industries. The agency s programs, services and investments act as a catalyst to help these sectors realize their economic and creative potential and thereby contribute to the future prosperity of our province. Creative BC s mandate is to provide the programs, services and expertise needed to expand and diversify B.C. s creative industries, stimulate inward investment and employment in the creative sectors and promote B.C. s creative content and production capabilities both at home and in the global marketplace. We are pleased to invite applications from qualified individuals for the full-time position of: CONTENT + COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST The Content + Communications Specialist plays a unique and pivotal role within Creative BC s strategy for success. This position will report to, and collaborate with, the Director of Business Operations, who has overall responsibility for brand and communications strategy within the organization. The Content + Communications Specialist works on-site and in-house, providing hands-on expertise to creatively develop, design and drive integrated communications across Creative BC s digital and traditional channels. Plans and activities will perpetually innovate Creative BC s dynamic presence in the market while consistently upholding the brand and the organization s strategic framework of goals, objectives and values. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES TEAM: Being a key player within Creative B.C. s overall strategies as a high energy, collaborative and supportive team member; MEDIA RELATIONS: Responding to all media inquiries and maintaining key messages, preparing media briefings and monitoring media engagement (traditional and non-traditional); collaborating with government and industry on creative industries communications; DIGITAL: Driving and optimizing Creative BC s digital properties on a day-to-day basis including websites, online newsletter and social media channels; COLLABORATION: Facilitating collaborative relationships with all Creative BC departments and partners to enhance communications relevant to their programs and projects, ensuring aligned metrics, messaging, and designing helpful systems to continue streamlining internal processes in order that Creative BC can continue to capitalize on every opportunity for storytelling; COPY + STORYTELLING: Creating and curating written content for all applications from web, annual reports, newsletters and media releases to promotional materials, speeches and presentations; Content + Communications Specialist, Creative BC November 2018 Page 1 of 4

2 ASSETS: Providing light design services and PPT expertise day-to-day while coordinating outsourced design resources and budgets for larger projects; generating on-brand visual assets, graphics and infographics for day to day use on social, the web and in presentations; BRAND: Shaping Creative BC as a content brand by maintaining integrated and consistent communications systems and plans to monitor, collect, aggregate, disseminate and promote statistics and stories about Creative BC and most importantly, B.C. s creative industries; REPORTING: Consistently monitoring all media channels, maintaining monitoring tools and delivering weekly/monthly/annual metrics on brand channel performance. The following is a detailed summary of the role s responsibilities as related to Creative BC s core values: INSPIRING CREATIVE COURAGE Creatively promoting B.C. s creative industries at home and around the globe; uniting and engaging industry stakeholders, partners, investors, supporters and the next generation of talent in contributing to the sector s ongoing success; Optimizing all of Creative BC s communications processes, systems and platforms to boldly support strategic priorities and deftly improve the effectiveness of the organization s capacity for monitoring, aggregating, generating and brokering creative industries knowledge across its internal and external channels; Designing, developing and managing collateral and assets, including graphics, imagery, video, photography infographics and other materials, both independently and in collaboration with contractors; Working with all departments to define and enhance our clients online and in-person communication experiences from web pages to one-sheets and PowerPoint decks to leave-behind materials for applicants, clients and partners at meetings events, conferences and trade missions. FOCUSING ON CLIENT NEEDS Transforming seemingly complex ideas into inspiring and simple, crisp and concise language; Maintaining alignment with and staying true to the heart of the brand message while expanding on the Creative Industries story; Generating, researching, writing, editing, proofreading and publishing quality content consistently over time, to increase visibility of B.C. s creative industries to investors, new talent and the public; Sharing and promoting Creative BC s programs to current and new applicants across the province and beyond; Staying current with and combing through public, published information; parsing data to statistically reflect the impacts of B.C. s creative sector on its economy; Assisting with the planning and promotion of industry events, conferences, partner initiatives and media events. 3 SHOWING SERVICE LEADERSHIP In concert with the Director of Business Operations, writing key messages and briefings, responding to media inquiries, identifying story pitches, managing emerging issues and sustaining strong relationships with the press to expand Creative BC s and the creative industries media coverage and footprint; Writing speeches, promotional materials and ad copy that accurately reflect current information and seek to build emerging data into materials that support real-time public communications and awareness; Providing hands-on CMS development and support to evolve Creative BC s online presence and improve user experience, engagement and value delivery; Measuring and driving engagement results through the use of SEO principles, media monitoring tools, social engagement, digital ad campaigns, analytics and understanding of the digital environment; Managing communications contacts and processes in MS Office 365, Salesforce CRM and across other integrated platforms including SAAS such as MailChimp, Survey Monkey, Eventbrite; Providing quality assurance on all communications materials, applying expert editing skills and a meticulous eye for detail to everything that represents the organization. DEVELOPING A UNITED VISION Planning, managing and consistently maintaining a committed-to content/editorial calendar that engages all staff and supports strategy balancing all departments and industries needs for information sharing across our channels; Assisting the Director of Operations with overall communications strategy, insight and planning by applying creativity, strategic thinking, project management excellence, audience engagement expertise, and analytics/data to support; Ensuring proper brand application and consistency across the organization; enhancing and maintaining a brand toolkit for internal and external users; Joining government communications calls and together with the Director of Operations, ensuring communications alignment and coordination with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture; engaging and collaborating with other Ministries, agencies and partners as required. BEING TRUSTED TO ACT Monitoring and keeping the organization s presence fresh and current across all web pages, print materials, digital and traditional channels; With a customer-centric mindset, monitoring creative industries news for opportunities and information relevant to our client base and distributing it across our websites, newsletters, bulletins and social channels; Supporting the acquisition of competitive intelligence about the creative industries we serve by researching and sharing trends in the global creative industries; Monitoring and analyzing leading economic development organizations around the world and bringing recommendations for our own content production and service improvements. Applicants must possess a minimum of 10 years communications and media relations experience in fast-paced environments (preferably including within a sophisticated business, government or corporate environment), and Content + Communications Specialist, Creative BC November 2018 Page 3 of 4

4 experience or education in all three of the following distinct areas of communications: 1. Industry and government relations; 2. Traditional media management, communications and public relations; 3. Social/digital media management and content creation. The successful candidate will have a combination of education and experience acceptable to Creative BC including: Familiarity and experience within economic development and/or B.C. s creative industries, particularly motion picture, music, publishing and digital entertainment; A bachelor's degree in marketing, creative writing, journalism, communications (or similar) desired and additional education in digital strategy, analytics and content marketing as a major asset; A natural style of collaboration with the ability to forge and negotiate complex relationships, supported by superior verbal, listening and presentation skills; Ability to balance multiple competing requirements, set priorities/meet deadlines; comfortable working unsupervised at driving agreed-to plans forward, while also juggling the spontaneous demands of day-today social media management; Ability to develop ideas and messages around economic, business and marketing objectives, to apply strategic thinking to communications issues; Impeccable original writing skills balanced with confidence and receptivity to constructive critical feedback; dedication to detail with the proven capacity to write for a range of audiences and purposes; a solid grasp of AP Stylebook guidelines in terms of grammar usage, spelling, punctuation, etc. with the confidence to graciously increase, support and ensure quality communications at all levels of the organization; Essential fluency in web analytics tools, social media marketing applications, and leading social media monitoring platforms as well as excellence with the Microsoft suite of applications, particularly PowerPoint; Digitally savvy with a passion for social media, news media and trends with a suite of comprehensive digital skills, including: strong knowledge of web editing through a CMS such as WordPress and others, with some html experience (enough to be dangerous); knowledge of UX design and best practices; experience with information architecture and site design; strong skills in SEO and web analytics; The design ability to create simple yet compelling, on-brand graphics and assets for web and social media use, preferably with Adobe Creative Suite. 5 COMPENSATION In return for an energetic and enthusiastic commitment to Creative BC, the successful individual will be offered a comprehensive compensation package including base remuneration, a highly competitive vacation and benefits package and participation in the Public Service Pension Plan.
