How and why are you using Facebook? -Before creating a Facebook profile, one should reflect on why they are joining Facebook? Are you joining to keep in contact with friends, or to network with other professionals, or both? - Once you have decided who you are marketing towards, you can begin the development of your profile. Connecting On A Personal Level -Facebook members are able to connect with others on a personal level by posting photos, status, and articles. - Members can also message others through their wall posts but also private inbox messages which are very similar to . Applications -BeKnown is an application that gives members the opportunity to build their professional network through Facebook by keeping your personal and professional lives separate. - Marketplace is an application that gives members the chance to buy, trade, and sell various things with your friends and the Facebook community. - Marketplace also has a section that has a job board that gives members the chance to search and post jobs directly on the application.
Your Timeline is your page. It contains all your stories, your photos and videos, a list of your friends, your favorite activities and interests, and what used to be called your Wall. This is where your friends can leave you messages, and you can update the world with anything you feel like sharing. The News Feed is a continuous stream of updates about your friends activities on and off Facebook. It appears on your Home page. A Friend is someone you are connected to on Facebook. Friending is the act of sending someone a friend request; all friendships have to be confirmed by both people in order for it to be official on Facebook. A Poke is a casual gesture that means, I m thinking of you. The person you Poke receives the Poke on her Home page when she logs in and has the choice to Poke you back. Only she (and not her friends) is aware that you Poked her.
Know Your Audience -Who are you trying to connect to on Facebook? - If you are trying to connect to colleagues, then you may not want to post photos of your party this past weekend. Or if you are connecting with old college friends, you may not want to make all your posts about work, because they may not understand. - Always be cautious of what you share. Decide On Your Branding Strategy -Your branding strategy should be based on your life goals along with your audience. - If you have not created a Facebook account, then you are in luck because you can make develop a branding strategy from the beginning. But if you already have an account, take time to analyze how your profile is being portrayed and begin to customize it to reflect your branding strategy. Set Your Privacy Settings -Depending on your audience, you may want to set your profile completely to private, have certain aspects private, or completely public. Import Contacts and Grow Your Network -Each month, users should import contacts from their as well as IM accounts to continue to grow your Facebook network. Update Your Status - Updating your status allows you to share a single message to a large audience. -Depending on your branding strategy, your status could contain various articles, projects you have worked on, or something effecting your life. Join or Start Events -Joining or creating new events on Facebook gives users the opportunity to network with others. - You can create meetings that involve your career goals along with trying something new. Link Our To Your Facebook -If you have another social networking account such as a blog, twitter, or Google+, you can add your Facebook link to these other accounts so others can visit your Facebook profile as well. - This could be a possibility if your branding strategy is to market yourself professionally.
Status Updates to Reflect Personal Brand - Updating status to reflect on your personal brand is very important while using Facebook. -Statuses should contain information that apply directly to your Facebook goal. If your goal is to network with other professionals, it may not be a good idea to post statuses about how fun your party was this weekend. On the opposite side, if your goal is to stay in contact with past friends, posting about work may not be a good idea as well because many people may not understand the content. Joining Groups of Relevance and Interest - Joining groups that you are interested in is very important while starting to network. - There are various groups on Facebook that allow users to start conversations about topics within their professional careers.
Pay attention to what your friends post about you, including photos -You do not want your friends posting things or photos about you on Facebook that could give you a bad image. - If you go under your Privacy Settings and edit your settings on what your friends can share about you, you are able to uncheck anything that you do not want your friends to share about you. Okay to use Facebook for personal use only, but make your boundaries known?

Circles only you see how you categorize people. Must choose which circles to send posts to Circles are Not Mutual Hangouts download Google video and audio chat. See hangout underneath people s posts +1 similar to FB like +1 all over the web, affects web analytics for articles, blogs and websites. You +1 show up on your profile Profile repository of all your Goggle+ activity like your FB wall. Bio info under about. Get clout by being in other s circles, not who you put in circles., who share s your posts
Do not need to have Gmail to have a Google profile Goggle+ encourages multiple photos and links on your profile, assumes you are engaged in other social media Goggle+ is constantly evolving and people figuring out how to use it what works best for them

Use Circles to separate contacts If the people you don t want to connect with use Goggle+, then just have a presence for now

Social Presence & Social Networking Social Presence is a direct image of your personal brand. For example, if Facebook is strictly for personal use, but Linkedin is for professional use, make sure you stay consistent. If a collogue adds you as a Friend on Facebook and you would like to keep your Facebook private for personal use, it is okay to explain that you use Linkedin as your professional networking tool. Social Networking is connecting to those within your career interests. Building a strong social network can be beneficial while applying for new jobs, asking career advice, or anything else professionally related. Consistent Status Updates HootSuite vs Tweetdeck -Both HootSuite and Tweetdeck allow users to update their statuses for their various social networks. - However in order for Tweetdeck automatically send out scheduled tweets, your PC must be on, connected to the internet, and have Tweetdeck running. - Most other features are very similar, it mostly is the users preferences on the interface make-your-twitter-account-more-effective
