TERM The 2019 BNSF Railway s Technlgy Awareness Day Mbile App Design Cntest ( Cntest ) begins Nvember 12 th, 2018 and ends January 29 th, Mbile App Design cntest registratin shuld be cmpleted at the time registratin fr the event is submitted by the designated Career and Technlgy Educatin (CATE) crdinatr r Upward Bund crdinatr at yur schl. Nte: Yu must check the bx fr the cntest(s) yu want t enter. Cmpleted Mbile App Design entries must be received by BNSF TAD Cntest Cmmittee n later than January 29 th, Entries received after this date will nt be cnsidered. Infrmatin n hw t enter and prizes frm part f these fficial rules ( Official Rules ). By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees t the Official Rules and warrants that his r her entry cmplies with all requirements set ut in the Official Rules. This is a skill-based cntest and chance plays n part in the determinatin f winners. WHO MAY ENTER Eligibility: The cntest is pen nly t students f participating schls r prgrams wh are in 9th thrugh 12th grades at the time f entry. One cntest entry, per categry submissin, per student. There is n cst t enter the cntest. Past Grand Prize Winners are nt eligible t participate in the categry they wn. HOW TO ENTER Each Entry cnsists f A cver sheet with the Cntest Title, Student s Name, Schl, and Grade An electrnic cpy f the Essay An electrnic cpy f a PwerPint presentatin illustrating the Mbile App Design and prcess flw with the Student s Name, Schl and Grade as the Title A Bibligraphy page with at least 2 references

2 Design a mbile app that slves a real-wrld prblem and illustrate the slutin in a PwerPint presentatin. Shw hw yur mbile app might lk and hw a user wuld navigate thrugh the app using a prcess flw. The cntestant must explain the real-wrld prblem and the slutin they have presented. Incmplete entries will nt be cnsidered. The crdinatrs must submit cntest entries directly t the cntest chair by . Yur entry must cmply with the fllwing requirements (the Entry Requirements ): All Mbile App Design submissins must be in PwerPint frmat. Cntestants can use any applicable design sftware; the entry must be submitted in PwerPint frmat. Inapprpriate use f language and/r images will autmatically disqualify an entry. The essay must adhere t the fllwing guidelines: An riginal, unpublished wrk One page in length. Maximum tw pages. Duble-spaced, Times New Rman, 12-pint fnt Cntestants shuld prfread entries fr spelling and grammar. Each Entry must be develped with limited guidance frm thers. Each Entry must be a single wrk f riginal material taken by the cntest entrant. By entering the Cntest, entrant represents, acknwledges and warrants that the submitted Mbile App Design Presentatin and Essay are riginal wrks created slely by the entrant and that n ther party has any right, title, claim r interest in the Mbile App Design Presentatin r the Essay. Thugh yu retain cpyright in each Mbile App Design submitted, the Mbile App Design(s) submitted will nt be returned r acknwledged. Obscene, prvcative, inapprpriate use f language r therwise bjectinable cntent will nt be cnsidered, and such determinatin is slely at the discretin f Spnsr. The entries will be judged in accrdance with the Judging Criteria, as defined belw. All entries must be submitted and received by January 29 th, Prf f submissin is nt prf f receipt.

3 LICENSE Each entrant retains the cpyright t his/her Mbile App Design(s) and Essay(s), but explicitly grants Spnsr, its licensees, affiliates and their designees (cllectively, the Authrized Parties ) an irrevcable, nn-exclusive license fr the duratin f cpyright t use each Mbile App Design and Essay fr advertising, marketing, and prmtinal purpses, in any and all media nw knwn r hereafter created, including but nt limited t publicatin in catalgs, brchures, blgs, and websites, at Authrized Parties discretin, withut additinal cnsideratin, ntificatin, permissin t entrant r any third party. CONTEST PRIZE One (1) Grand Prize Winner, ne (1) Secnd Place Winner, and ne (1) Third Place Winner will be selected. The tp three finalists f each categry will be recgnized at Technlgy Awareness Day n February 16, Winners must be present t receive their prize. If they are nt available, the prizes will be awarded t the next highest qualifier present. N prize transfer r assignment by winner permitted. N cash equivalent will be prvided. Spnsr reserves the right t substitute prize in the event f unavailability. Odds f winning depend n the number f eligible entries received and the skill f the entrant. JUDGING CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS Judges will select the tp entries by applying the fllwing criteria ( Judging Criteria ): 1) Mbile App Design Quality (75%) a) Clarity f Presentatin, Cntent and Visual Appearance (25%) b) Recgnizing and slving a real-wrld prblem (20%) c) Ease f navigatin thrugh the mbile app as illustrated in the design presentatin (15%) d) Creativity and Originality (15%) 2) The quality f the Essay (25%) a) Style and Mechanics (grammar, sentence structure, etc.) (10%) b) Quality f wrk (15%) Decisins f the Judges are final. BNSF Railway assumes n respnsibility fr any errr, missin, interruptin, deletin, defect, r delay in peratin r transmissin; cmmunicatins line failure; theft r destructin f r unauthrized access t Cntest entries r entry frms; r alteratin f entries r entry frms. BNSF is nt respnsible fr any prblems with r technical malfunctin f any telephne netwrk r lines, cmputer nline systems, servers r prviders, cmputer equipment, sftware, failure f any entry t be received n accunt f technical prblems r traffic cngestin n the Internet r at any Web site, human errrs f any kind, r any cmbinatin theref, including any injury r damage t entrants r any ther persns cmputers related t r resulting frm participatin, uplading r dwnlading f any materials related t in this Cntest. CONDITIONS THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. Participants als agree (a) t be bund by these Official Rules, and (b) that the decisins f the Judges are final n all matters relating t the Cntest. In the event that the selected winner(s) f any prize are/is ineligible r refuses the prize, the prize will be frfeited and Spnsr, in its sle discretin, may chse whether t award the prize t the next highest qualifier present. RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST If fr any reasn the Cntest is nt capable f running as planned, due t infectin by cmputer virus, bugs, wrms, Trjan hrses, denial f service attacks, tampering, unauthrized interventin, fraud, technical failures, r any ther causes beynd the cntrl f BNSF that crrupt r affect the administratin, security, fairness, integrity, r prper cnduct f this Cntest, BNSF reserves the right, at its sle discretin, t disqualify any individual(s) wh tamper with the entry prcess, and/r t cancel, terminate, mdify, r suspend the Cntest. If Spnsr elects t cancel r terminate the Cntest, Spnsr will nt retain any rights t the submitted phtgraphs. DATA PRIVACY Entrants agree that persnal data, especially name, and address, may be prcessed, shared and therwise used fr the purpses and within the cntext f the Cntest and any ther purpses utlined in these Official Rules.
