3 PAGE 3 MOTY-KO AND TOTALINE: POWER TOOLS FOR THE PROS HVAC/R professionals need professional power tools. That s why Totaline stores offer the Moty-Ko line. Moty-Ko power tools are made for the professional contractor, said Jay Seitz, Totaline category manager. They are equal in quality and reliability to other professional-grade tools, yet their prices are very competitive. Totaline carries the Moty-Ko power tools contractors need: 18 volt hammer drill 14.4 volt regular drill/driver 18 volt reciprocating saw (sold as saw only; a kit with saw, case, and one battery; or a kit with saw, case, and two batteries) 12 volt impact driver The 12 volt impact driver is our most popular Moty-Ko power tool, Seitz said. It is perfect for sheet metal screws, is lightweight, and is only 9.5 inches tall, so it s easy to get into tight spaces. Moty-Ko tools are only available through wholesalers, so when contractors buy them from Totaline, they are buying them from somebody they know and trust, and from the place they buy their HVAC/R service parts on a daily basis, Seitz said. In fact, Totaline offers an over-the-counter exchange for Moty-Ko tools for one year from the date of purchase for any problems caused by a manufacturer s defect. Moty-Ko also offers a complete line of high quality sheet metal screws and a full line of accessories including gloves, safety glasses, drill bits and blades. Beginning July 1, contractors can receive a free pair of Moty-Ko safety glasses with the purchase of a Moty-Ko power tool from a Totaline distributor. Free Stuff offers are available to customers in the United States and Canada. For more information, visit

DCNE surprised the Witz brothers with the award during a May visit. It was completely unexpected, said Jim Witz. Charlie presented RCD with the award for our work and our loyalty. John Witz was the DCNE Totaline salesperson for several years prior to Jim Witz taking over the account last September. The award, which reads With gratitude to the Replacement Components Division of Carrier Corp. in recognition of more than

6 PAGE 6 45 years of exemplary performance and service as DCNE s parts and supplies provider, is the first award that DCNE has presented to a vendor. We ve wanted to do this for a while, said Jerry Murphy, DCNE parts division manager. RCD s professionalism and ease of doing business have helped forge a strong and meaningful relationship with us. Totaline has been a provider of quality HVAC/R products for 20 years. We grew our business with RCD and formed a strong relationship, said Greg Kolligian, DCNE vice president of sales and marketing. We wanted to honor them for years of reliability and service. Owned and operated by the Kolligian family since 1963, DCNE serves Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. It provides a full line of commercial and residential HVAC/R products, Totaline parts and supplies, and has branches in Westwood, Mass., Salem, N.H.; Westbrook, Maine; Cranston, R.I.; and a parts store at its Malden, Mass., headquarters. I can t say enough about what a great bunch of people they are. DCNE is a class organization, with some of the best people in this industry working there, said John Witz. It s been a great relationship and I was honored to represent RCD in receiving this award. Jim Witz added, John and I were there to get the award, but it honors all the people of RCD and all the people who help us do what we do to serve DCNE. 7 STUMP JIM FLYNN PAGE 7 Totaline training manager Jim Flynn answers your questions about Totaline and the HVAC/R industry. A SEER SOLUTION Q: A contractor in the Northwest asks: To get the greater SEER values required by regulations, most condensing units now come with at least one, if not two, TXVs (thermo expansion valves). There are so many models, how can I keep the right ones on my truck? A: Great question! As usual, I checked with our resident expert on TXVs Igor Bychkov. He reminded me of a kit he talks about in his Totaline University class. It s called an HFK Service Kit. TXVs are composed of three major components: a cage, a power element and a valve body. Different combinations make different valves. The service kit allows for field assembly of the valve(s), and a small number of components can service a majority of applications literally hundreds. This will help you reduce your trips to the store as well as help reduce your inventory. The kit comes with all the instructions you will need to make the appropriate selections and you can easily replace components as you use them. Your local Totaline store can help you build a kit as well as take care of your replenishment needs. Do you have a question that could earn you some Totaline Free Stuff? 9 PAGE 9 For anyone in the HVAC/R business, the words summer and vacation probably aren t ever used together in the same sentence. As the busiest season for the HVAC/R industry, summertime when so many others are on vacation keeps technicians and contractors working around the clock. But recent studies show that if you can fit in a vacation during other times when business is less hectic, your health, your mind and maybe your job, are better for it. According to a 2007 international study by Expedia.com, about one-third of employed U.S. adults usually do not take all of the vacation days they receive each year. Other studies show that vacationers work while on vacation or that they might only take a day or two off rather than a full week or more. This lack of a real vacation can have adverse effects. Vacations have been show to be: Good for your health: Vacations may protect health by reducing stress. Brooks B. Gump, PhD, of the Department of Psychology at the State University of New York at Oswego and Karen A. Matthews, PhD, of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, analyzed data from a nine-year study of TAKE A VACATION! more than 12,000 men at a high risk for coronary heart disease. Gump and Matthews found that those with regular annual vacations had a lower risk of death during the study period relative to those skipping their vacations. Vacations may not only be enjoyable, but also health promoting, said Gump. Good for your mind: Women who take vacations frequently are less likely to become tense, depressed or tired, according to a 2005 study conducted by researchers at Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield, Wis., and published in the Wisconsin Medical Journal. Good for your job: The same Expedia.com study mentioned above found that nearly two in five (39%) employed U.S. adults reported feeling better about their job and feeling more productive upon returning from vacation. Everyone needs an occasional break. Even Ed Gancarz, principal of the SHA+RP Institute and one of our favorite business experts, takes vacations. He s away on one right now, and his column will return in August, when he ll discuss Once-a-Year Cost Cutting Ideas. Set It and Forget It! So if you can, follow Ed s example, and consider a vacation. It might be just what you need after the summer rush. Sources: mos/vacations/expedia_international_vacation_deprivation_survey_results_2007.pdf newsreleases&id=2831

11 PAGE 11 PURON REFRIGERANT AT TOTALINE BEATS THE SUMMER HEAT July means a jump in temperatures, and chances are, HVAC/R contractors are getting more and more air conditioning calls each day. In just one stop at their Totaline store, contractors can find the Puron refrigerant they need to service homeowners air conditioning units. Puron refrigerant, used in residential and light commercial air conditioning, is environmentally sound and chlorine-free. It is the alternative to R-22 refrigerant, which was commonly used in the past and, according to the 1990 Clean Air Act, must be phased out because it may cause the earth s ozone layer to diminish. Testing in hundreds of thousands of homes has proven that Puron refrigerant is superior to R-22 not only in environmental safety, but in performance and energy efficiency. These results have made Puron a universally accepted, long-term refrigerant for the heating and cooling industry. Totaline is a contractor s one-stop shop for refrigerant, said Todd Parody, Totaline category manager. Our knowledgeable counter sales associates will help them find Puron and whatever else they might need for the job, so they can get back to work fast and keep their customers cool. Beginning July 1, contractors can receive a free JugLugger refrigerant carrying strap with the purchase of two R410A refrigerants from a Totaline distributor.
