3 WHY CONSIGN WITH OUR SALE? This is a great question. We know it can seem like a lot of work. Wouldn t it be easier to just send it off to a thrift store? It might be, but we like to think participation in our sale has a wide ripple effect that touches many. Why bother with a consignment sale??? By participating you can: **provide monetary support and donated goods (unsold items) to local charities. **earn money for yourself by selling items that you no longer need (70% of total sold). **purchase gently used items at a discount (compared to retail stores). REMEMBER -30% of everything you BUY & SELL goes to charities. Is the thought of going through closets and toy rooms simply too overwhelming to consider? We get it! Most of us are in the same boat. You don t have to go through every room in the house or tackle every closet. Do what you can! Still not convinced? Volunteer with us instead and earn an earlier spot in line for our popular Thursday night Pre-Sale! Your participation, however small you may think it is, makes a difference! And along the way you may find a great bargain, warm fellowship, new friends and perhaps become inspired to become more involved! Okay, enough of the mushy stuff. Let s get back to business.

4 WHAT S NEXT? We re glad you asked! Below are the basics steps to enter and take part in the sale as a consignor. It may sound like a HUGE job, but if you start early and do a little at a time, it will seem like a breeze. Ok, here we go! We have broken down the process from beginning to very end into eight steps that can be done over time or in as little as one day depending on your preferred approach. 1. Register yourself as a consignor for this sale. Go to Enter the sale as a consignor by clicking the appropriate button (new or returning consignor) on the right side of screen Set up a drop off shift Select a volunteer shift (this is optional for those wanting to put their talents to use during the sale and earn an even earlier entrance to our pre-sale!) 2. Prepare the supplies you ll need to make your items sale-ready. Priority items: - hangers - white card stock/index cards - clear packing tape - access to a printer (with adequate ink supply and crisp print quality, both are needed to ensure barcodes on your tags can be scanned) - safety pins (lots and lots) Optional, but potentially useful items: - zip-lock style bags (gallon size) - zip ties (to bind shoes together) TIP! Safety Pins from craft/ fabric stores are typically easier to use & sturdier than those from grocery store - string/gift ribbon (to bind books/puzzles/movies/etc you are selling in a group/ lot) - rubber bands (to bind hangers together if you re either selling a group/lot of garments and/or to make transporting garments to the sale easier) - stapler w/staples (to attach tags to index cards or ziplock bags NOT to be used directly on items).

5 3. Gather the items you want to sell. Head to those areas of your house begging for a reprieve from the no-longer used and out-grown items that haven t seen the light of day for longer than you can remember. Set aside anything you want to sell. Inspect all items for wear and tear, keeping in mind we will not accept items that are stained, dirty, torn, out of season, broken, incomplete or are missing parts and we reserve the right to decline any item for any reason. Group like items and organize clothing/shoes by gender and size to streamline the next step. TIP! This may be a good time to go over your items and make them look their best. If you see a small stain, treat and wash it. If a garment looks wrinkled, go over it with a quick iron or steam. Wipe off any marks or dirt on toys, games, sports gear, etc. Items deemed stained, dirty or excessively ragged can be excluded from the sale. A quick touch-up to your items can make them gleam and more likely to sell! 4. Enter your items into your consignor account. Login to your consignor account by going to: Select the following to get to the screen where you can create tags: Consignor Homepage or Return to Consigner Homepage (they will take you to the same screen) login with user name and password My Homepage Activities Menu (blue button in upper right corner) Work With Consigned Inventory Active Inventory Select appropriate computer/device input method From here the sequence of steps vary slightly depending if you use a PC/Laptop or mobile device. You may use either interchangeably throughout the process. Your entries will be added to your inventory data base after you submit each item.

6 FOR PC/LAPTOP ENTRIES: For each item select/complete the appropriate information: - category, size, description (be as detailed as possible here), price, - do you want to discount? This is optional. If you choose to discount your item, the price will automatically drop 50% during the half-price sale and increases the chance it will sell. - do you want to donate your unsold items? Items not sold can be donated to our group of charities after the sale (list of charities can be found at the end of this document). **High quality items that are donated may be saved to be sold at a future GUMW Clothing Sale with 100% proceeds going to missions. - Click Submit Item. - Repeat the above process for each item. - Category, size, discount and donate options remain the same and carry over to the next item unless you change it. This is why it is a good idea to group like items, so you can save time on data entry by one categorical group at a time. - You can stop and start this process (login/out) as much as you need to. - Submitted items are automatically saved to your account. FOR MOBILE DEVICE ENTRIES: For each item select Add New Item and complete the following information: - category, size, description (be as detailed as possible here), price - do you want to discount? This is optional. If you choose to discount your item, the price will automatically drop 50% during the half-price sale and increases the chance it will sell. - do you want to donate your unsold items? Items not sold can be donated to our group of charities after the sale (list of charities can be found at the end of this document). Click submit. You will then be taken back to the Work With Active Inventory screen where you can select Add New Item and repeat the same steps. Category, size, discount and donate options remain the same and carry over to the next item unless you change it. This is why it is a good idea to group like items, so you can save time on data entry by one categorical group at a time. You can stop and start this process (login/out) as much as you need to. Submitted items are automatically saved to your account. PRICING TIP! When you are deciding on a price, remember if it doesn t sell, it doesn t raise money for you or our mission to serve our community. High prices deter buyers. Based on successful pricing at previous sales, we recommend pricing at 1/4 to 1/2 of retail price. Any garments from large discount retailers (Old Navy, Walmart, Target) should be priced at no more than $3.

7 FOR EITHER PC/LAPTOP OR MOBILE DEVICES We encourage you to explore other functions presented on the Work With Active Inventory screen as they may help you streamline certain functions you may want to do as you move through the entry process. - Overall Inventory Functions : using this you may apply a directive to your ENTIRE inventory. You may choose to donate all or not donate all of your items, discount all or not discount all items, inactivate all items, delete all items. Inactivating items will hold your items in your inventory but the items will not be available for this sale. For example, if you entire an item/items that are winter clothes, you can inactivate them and then reactivate them for the winter sale. - With Selected Items : you may apply a directive to the items you have checked on your inventory list (you may check an item by clicking on the box that appears on the left of your inventory list). - Inventory Icon Legend : this is a key for icons you may see. - Check/Uncheck : this will check or uncheck all items to prepare you to apply a function 5. Print your tags. If you are already logged in, return to the Activities Menu, select Print Tags and then select Print All Tags or Print Selected Tags (you will be directed to your inventory to select the tags you want to print) If you are not logged in, then login to your account at Select the following: Return to Consignor Homepage login with user name and password My Homepage Activities Menu Work With Consigned Inventory Print All Tags or Print Selected Tags (you will be directed to your inventory to select tags you want to print) Cut the tags apart carefully so barcodes and item numbers are intact on each tag. Tags that are laminated or printed on colored paper are not allowed as they will not scan at check-out if purchased.

8 6. Attach your tags. If you haven t already hung your clothes, do so now. PLEASE NOTE A NEW RULE FOR THIS SALE: ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN HUNG/TAGGED USING A TAGGING GUN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE SALE. The use of tags hung with plastic tabs via tagging guns greatly interferes with the uniformity and process we use to distribute/sort/organize the 20,000+ items we receive for our sale. Any items hung/tagged using a tagging gun will be denied entrance onto the sale floor. Please use safety pins for all tagging and securing items to hangers. - Hang the items so the hook of the hanger forms the shape of a question mark as you are looking at the front of the garment. See hanger below: - Securely pin pants/skirts/etc to the slanted parts of the hanger and not on the bottom of the hanger to keep pants from sliding around on the hanger. - If you are selling garments in a group/lot, bind the hangers together with safety pins or rubber bands Attach the tags to your items: - using a safety pin, attach tags to the upper right corner for all garments - tape/securely tie tags to games/toys/gear/books. - you may staple tags to items as long as the staple does not puncture the item (i.e., if you put shoes or small items in a zip lock bag you can staple the tag to the bag, but not the item). Please be sure to minimize potential damage to the item as a result of taping. TIP! Keep in mind there are hundreds of shoppers and thousands of items. Displaying your clothes in a uniform manner as described above will allow shoppers to see the items/ prices in their full glory without hassle. Shoppers go quickly through the racks and we want your items to make a great first impression!! " Garments hung improperly and/or tags placed in other areas make it harder for a shopper to see the item/

9 7. Deliver your inventory to the sale during your designated drop-off time. When you arrive at the Owings Life Enrichment Center (OLEC) walk your inventory into the gym Our volunteers will get you checked-in and go through your items to ensure they meet our criteria. Please know we do this to ensure a high-quality sale. Once that is complete we will make sure you have your early shopping pass and our volunteers will put your entire inventory away for you. You re done!! 8. # SHOP!!!! # Thursday Night PRE-SALE: Open to volunteers and consignors only. Only people with a shopping pass will be allowed into the sale. One pass per person, no exceptions. Please share your experience with us while you are at the sale or through a contact listed above. We d like to know what we are doing right and where we can improve. We hope to see you at our next sale! **FUN FACTS** Do you or someone you know have things you want to get rid of but aren't looking to earn money and/or you don t have the time to go through the whole process? NO PROBLEM! You can contact us and make arrangements to donate it to the sale. In this situation GUMW will receive 100% of the amount sold from your items and unsold items will be donated to charities. We have volunteers dedicated to this very situation. You can track your sold items and how much money you have earned Friday and Saturday evenings of the sale by logging on to your consignor account. We have anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 items at each sale! Each sale sends anywhere from $8-18K to local charities. We can ALWAYS use extra volunteer help on Saturday to sort out items that will be donated, from those being returned to consignor. If you missed signing up for a shift, but are able to help at the last minute, let us know! We encourage teens and youth group participants to volunteer with Saturday afternoon sorting of unsold items. It s a great way to earn community service hours! If you are on the fence about donating your unsold items, keep this in mind: every item not donated has to be hand-sorted by volunteers on Saturday. There are typically thousands of items that fall into this category. donated items go directly to local charities. we ve created a group of charities with a wide variety specific needs to ensure all unsold items go to good use! some high quality items that are donated may be saved to be sold at a future GUMW Clothing Sale with 100% proceeds going to missions.
