Hwever, it is als an area in which rules and bundaries are cnstantly being tested. This plicy acts in cnjunctin with s Media Relatins Plicy in rder t maximise ur scial media reach while prtecting ur public reputatin. PURPOSE may chse t engage in scial media such as: Twitter Facebk Ggle+ WrdPress/Blgger YuTube/Vime itunes/pdcasting seeks t encurage infrmatin and link-sharing amngst its membership and vlunteers, and seeks t utilise the expertise f its members and vlunteers in generating apprpriate scial media cntent. At the same time, scial media psts shuld be in keeping with the clubs values and als the image that wishes t present t the public. Psts made thrugh its scial media channels shuld nt damage the Clubs reputatin in any way. The Media Manager will versee expansin f scial media and help t develp the Scial Media Strategy in line with the clubs Media Relatins Plicy. Members and vlunteers may, frm time t time and where apprpriate, pst n behalf f using the rganisatin s nline scial media prfiles. This is t be undertaken nly with the express knwledge and authrisatin f the Media Manager. The Media Manager has ultimate respnsibility fr: Ensuring that all psts are in keeping with s cre Scial Media Plicy. Ensuring apprpriate and timely actin is taken t crrect r remve inapprpriate psts (including defamatry and/r illegal cntent) and in minimising the risk f a repeat incident. Ensuring that apprpriate and timely actin is taken in restring relatins with any persns r rganisatins ffended by an inapprpriate pst. Mderating and mnitring public respnse t scial media, such as blg cmments and Facebk replies, t ensure that trlling and spamming des nt ccur, t remve ffensive r inapprpriate replies, r cautin ffensive psters, and t reply t any further requests fr infrmatin generated by the pst tpic. It is imprtant t maintain the balance between encuraging discussin and infrmatin sharing, and maintaining a prfessinal and apprpriate nline presence. PROCESSES Psting t scial media Befre scial media psts are made, vlunteers and members shuld ask themselves the fllwing questins and be able t respnd YES t these: Is the infrmatin I am psting, r repsting, likely t be f interest t Centenary Plains BMX s members and stakehlders? Is the infrmatin in keeping with the interests f the club and its cnstituted aims? Culd the pst be cnstrued as an attack n anther individual, rganisatin r prject? Wuld s dnrs be happy t read the pst? If there is a link attached t the pst, des the link wrk, and have I read the infrmatin it links t and judged it t be an apprpriate surce? If repsting infrmatin, is the riginal pster an individual r rganisatin that wuld be happy t assciate itself with? Are the tne and the cntent f the pst in keeping with ther psts made by des it maintain the rganisatin s verall tne? If yu are at all uncertain abut whether the pst is suitable, d nt pst it until yu have discussed it with the Clubs media manager. A few mments spent checking can save the BMX club big prblems in the future. Damage limitatin In the event f a damaging r misleading pst being made, the Media Manager shuld be ntified as sn as pssible, and the fllwing actins shuld ccur: The ffending pst t be remved. Where necessary an aplgy shuld be issued, either publicly r t the individual r rganisatin invlved. The rigin f the ffending pst shuld be explred and steps taken t prevent a similar incident ccurring in the future. If the mistake seems set t grw r is likely t cause significant damage t the rganisatin s reputatin, refer t the club executive cmmittee. 5 Mderating scial media The reputatin f is first and fremst, and this invlves maintaining a safe and friendly envirnment fr its members. Frm time t time scial media frums may be hijacked by trlls r spammers, r attract peple wh attack ther psters r the rganisatin aggressively. In rder t maintain a pleasant envirnment fr everybdy, these psts need t be mderated. Freedm f speech is t be encuraged, but if psts cntain ne r mre f the fllwing, it is time t act: Excessive r inapprpriate use f swearing (is it ever apprpriate t swear in a pst?) Defamatry, slanderus r aggressive attacks n, ther individuals, rganisatins, prjects r public figures Breach f cpyrighted material nt within reasnable use, in the public dmain, r available under Creative Cmmns license Breach f data prtectin r privacy laws Repetitive advertisements Tpics which fall utside the realms f interest t members and stakehlders, and which d nt appear t be within the cntext f a legitimate discussin r enquiry. If a pst appears nly nce: Remve the pst as sn as pssible If pssible/apprpriate, cntact the pster privately t explain why yu have remved the pst and highlighting s psting guidelines. If a pster cntinues t pst inapprpriate cntent, r if the pst can be cnsidered spam: Remve the pst as sn as pssible Ban r blck the pster t prevent them frm psting again. Banning and blcking shuld be used as a last resrt nly, and nly when it is clear that the pster intends t cntinue t cntribute inapprpriate cntent. Hwever, if that is the case, actin must be taken swiftly t maintain the welfare f ther scial media users.
