This session will look at the state of the economy in 2016 and related impacts of such things as exchange rates, international trade and trade agreements, the election of new governments, monetary policy and the various trends that signal the way forward in 2016 and beyond. This session looks at these trends, what is driving them and how companies are working to ride the wave in the various sectors of the coatings industry. Douglas Bohn Orr & Boss 10:15 10:30 NETWORKING BREAK SUCCEEDING IN TIMES OF GREAT CHANGE 10:30 11:00 BEST PRACTICES IN FREIGHT MANAGEMENT Transportation and logistics impact every industry, and the coatings industry is no exception. Logistics costs represent a significant expense for many companies in our industry. This session will explore all aspects of freight management from the transportation of raw materials to order processing to mode and carrier selection to customer delivery. It will outline the various cost components of freight management and identify opportunities for CPCA members to save money. The presentation will also highlight the major elements of freight rates and identify negotiating strategies to optimize the value of your expenditures while achieving high customer satisfaction. Dan Goodwill President Dan Goodwill & Associates 11:00 11:30 CPCA ANNUAL REVIEW: NOW WHAT? This is an annual review of the past year at the association and what might be expected in the coming weeks. There continues to be a lot on the menu with new developments in stewardship that includes new legislation in Ontario and regulatory reviews in other provinces and by the CCME. At the federal level the final phase of the Chemicals Management Plan has been announced with 1,550 substances being assessed over the next five years with 35 per cent of those used in the coatings industry. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development is immersed in a review of chemicals management under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. These and other issues will be updated for all. Gary LeRoux President & CEO 11:30 12:00 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (MEMBERS ONLY) 12:00 1:30 LUNCHEON 1:30 2:00 ACA VOC EMISSION STUDY UPDATE: INDOOR AIR QUALITY The original goal of ACA s Coatings Emission Study project was to gain a deeper understanding of emissions from interior paints and their potential impact on indoor air quality. This update provides a summary of the findings from the project s first two research efforts: Berkley Analytical Laboratories Market Basket Testing and the University of Texas at Austin s Continuous Emission Monitoring Protocol. 6 is also looking at this issue, which will gain more traction as governments around the globe focus on air emissions and move forward with new regulations. David Darling Managing Director, HSE American Coatings Association 2:00 3:00 PAINT STEWARDSHIP: THE CANADIAN LANDSCAPE Ontario approved Product Care as the new program operator for post-consumer paint in Ontario at the end of The transition from Stewardship Ontario to Product Care will conclude in June. Nova Scotia is another province actively engaged in updating stewardship regulations in the province following an extensive consultation period in This session will provide an update on how things are progressing generally in other provincial jurisdictions and in Nova Scotia in particular. It will consider what is expected in Ontario with new legislation recently tabled and what Nova Scotia might do in the coming months to update its waste legislation and regulations. Mark Kurschner President Product Care Association Bob Kenney Environmental Waste Resource Management Nova Scotia Environment 3:00 3:30 NETWORKING BREAK 3:30 4:00 GHS: A PROVINCIAL PERSPECTIVE The Globally Harmonized System for the Labelling of Chemicals in the Workplace (GHS) is a new federal regulation for hazard communications for the labelling of chemicals jointly administered with the provinces. This new system requires the first major safety data system change for the coatings industry since the inception of MSDS, more than 30 years ago. CPCA and other industry associations have worked for a number of years with the federal government on development of the GHS and committed resources to ensure we get this right now that the transition to the new system is ongoing and will continue over the next year. This session looks at how one province is working on transitioning to the new system.
