2 Brian Wilson With a degree in electrical engineering and a former career as a computer systems engineer, Brian believes in life long learning. So, ten years ago when he realized his real estate investments were bringing in more money than his day job, he opted for a more independent and flexible career by going into business for himself. Real estate investments were always a hobby for Brian, but he recognized the potential to combine his systems experience to build a growing, thriving real estate business. Brian sees technology as powerful, and utilizes SEO Search Engine Optimization to track different types of buyers and sellers to give them the material and information they are seeking. For example, Brian may have one website which focuses on market data, while another may

3 John L. Scott target infor mation on specific com - munities. But, what sets Brian aside from other agents is that he rec - ognizes real estate as a rapidly changing business. He thrives on this challenge to follow the market and see where it is going. One example is the advent of mobile applications which have changed how buyers look for homes, and brings REALTORS to people s fingertips. Brian recog - nizes if he doesn t respond to a new request within 5 minutes, he could lose a potential client. In this everychanging climate it is important to respond quickly. Brian loves interacting with people, and feels that he plays a vital role in their biggest purchase. He feels this is an honor and a privilege, all in all, an exciting combination. A few years ago, Brian s business

4 was 75% sellers, but now it has changed to be about 80% buyers, not to mention business has increased over 40% this year compared with last. His partner, Jana Salmans, has been doing this for 28 years and her business is from her extensive database of past clients and referrals. She is at about 50/50 buyers/sellers. Brian uses social media combined with some more traditional marketing practices to stay in contact with his previous clients. Everyone is getting web savvy these days, even his more senior clients will often find him on his Facebook business page. Still, every year Brian looks back and does an assessment of what works best and what doesn t work to maximize and understand the market. The continuity of relationships with clients is very important to Brian, so in the

5 next year, with the amount of growth they have already had, Brian and Jana will evaluate expanding their team, poss ibly adding an admin assistant and a buyer s agent. Brian is particularly proud when he sees that his online marketing prac - tices have paid off. This sometimes may take a couple years, and while this may discourage others, Brian prides himself on his stick-to-itiveness, as it clearly works, and sees himself in it for the long haul. Brian feels extremely lucky to have been able to turn his hobby into his career. In his spare time he continues learning and developing new tech - nology. He gets especially excited when he finds a new trick to enhance his website. When he is not diving into new technologies, you may find Brian scuba diving in Maui.
