2 WELCOME INTRODUCTION TO THE INAGURAL GREATER ROCHESTER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT VIDEO CONTEST (PILOT) The Federal Reserve Bank f New Yrk is spnsring a vide cntest t increase awareness abut specific middle skill ccupatins that are grwing in demand. Middle skill ccupatins require specialized training and educatin but typically less than a bachelr s degree. The NY Fed s Lead the Way Wrkfrce Develpment Vide Cntest challenges cllege students t create a 30 secnd vide that identifies the educatin required, expected wages, and jb demand fr 1 r 2 middle skill ccupatins. Prizes include airing f the winning vide in lcal mvie theaters, internships, and career advice. WHY WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT? Withut a skilled wrkfrce a regin s ecnmy may nt have enugh wrkers t help cmpanies expand r attract new emplyers which lead t ecnmic grwth. As new jbs are created the effects n the ecnmy multiply as incme generated is spent lcally n gds and services thus creating a larger impact n the reginal ecnmy. WHY THE GREATER ROCHESTER AREA? Within the Greater Rchester Area there is a shrtage f skilled wrkers in the educatinal pipeline the area s future wrkfrce and a skills gap in the existing wrkfrce. In additin, while the regin experienced ppulatin grwth between 2000 and 2013, ppulatin declined 17% fr year lds a key wrkfrce demgraphic. WHY A VIDEO CONTEST? The vides are meant t serve as a peer t peer learning tl. Think f the vides as a Public Service Annuncement. The industries and ccupatins yu will design vides arund are in demand. 3 FACTSHEET SUMMARY Cllege students will be challenged t create a 30 secnd vide that highlights ONE industry where jbs are chrnically hard t fill but the demand is high and between 1r 2 specific ccupatins within that industry. Students are encuraged t frm int teams f up t 3 students per team. Each team can submit ne vide. There is n limit n the number f teams frm each cllege. Vides will be judged by an independent panel f experts. TEAMS 1 3 students per team Students can nly be part f ne team Team members must be enrlled at least half time, but d nt need t attend same schl Actrs d nt need t be team members A team is encuraged t have an advisr but it is nt required. Advisrs can wrk with multiple teams Advisr must be an emplyee f ne team member s schl VIDEO FORMAT & SUBMISSION Final vides shuld be submitted in.mov frmat. 6 ROUND 1: TECHNICAL ROUND JUDGING CRITERIA All vides submitted will underg tw runds f judging. Submitted vides will underg a review by the Federal Reserve Bank f New Yrk t insure cmpliance with the rules and regulatins f the cntest. ROUND 2: MERIT Rund 2 is the final rund f judging. Judges will be asked t cnsider the fllwing criteria when scring: I. Cntent Accuracy Hw accurate is the vide? II. III. IV. 8 COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS Vide Requirements Why can the vide nly be 30 secnds lng? Standard length fr a media cmmercial slt is thirty secnds. As the winning vide will be airing in theaters it must be in cmpliance with public media requirements. Can the educatin requirements be specific t my schl? We prefer that yu specify the brad requirements fr the ccupatin. Fr example it is enugh t say that the ccupatin requires an Assciate s degree r specific technical training. Yu need nt mentin specific prgrams r curse wrk ffered at yur cllege. Where can I find infrmatin n expected jb grwth and wages? Vide Creatin and Frmat What type f equipment d I need? Students may use a variety f equipment t create their vides including handheld cameras, smart phnes, r prfessinal equipment. Etc. What is.mv f rmat? The.mv file frmat is ften used t save mvie files and vide clips t a user's hard drive r ther media device. It is the file extensin that is used by the QuickTime media sftware that is distributed by Apple. Files that are saved in.mv frmat are cmpressed, making it easier t dwnlad and stream vide frm the Internet t yur cmputer r prtable media device. Many f the mvies and vides that are available nline are distributed in.mv frmat. Team Building What is the rle f my team advisr and wh can serve as a team advisr? The rle f the team advisr is t act as a liaisn between students and the Federal Reserve Bank f New Yrk and prvide guidance regarding the cntent and cmpsitin f the vides. Any full time faculty r staff member at yur cllege can serve as yur team advisr. The same persn can serve as the advisr t multiple teams. D I need t have a backgrund in media r videgraphy? N! We want students frm a variety f backgrunds t participate in the cntest. As mentined previusly, yu d nt need t use prfessinal equipment t create yur vides. Judging Wh are the panel f experts fr the final rund? The panel f experts will be disclsed clser t the date f the finals. Traditinally, judges are prfessinal representatives f the media, entertainment, academic, and business cmmunity.
