4 Social Media Facts Social Media is a new way to advertise. It s called Engagement Marketing. Engagement Marketing is when you engage in conversation with your customers and potential customers in a way that tells your story through bits and pieces of information both written and visual that your audience finds both useful and entertaining. Social Media will NOT fix the problems at your Center. If it s dirty, unorganized, unfriendly staff, run of the mill and nothing special..it s not going to change that. Social Media is NOT an overnight success! Social Media is not FREE! It takes time and commitment! Social Media is NOT a place to post negative comments or respond to drama. If you wouldn t put it on the front page of the newspaper don t put it on Facebook! 4

5 Step By Step 1. Set up 30 minutes once a week any day. This is the new investment in your marketing budget! 2. Set up 1 time per month that you can make graphics. If you do this during your 30 minutes 1 day per week make sure you don t spend too much time on graphics and don t post enough! 3. On your 30 minute day open up Facebook from the Insights View, Open up your posts spread sheet, and Open up an Internet Browser for searching for things.get posting. Check off the posts you entered on the post spreadsheet. 4. Everyday go onto Facebook and just respond to anyone who wrote since you last checked. Go to Insights and review what is going on. Note on the spreadsheet what posts you are seeing engagement in the most. This should take no more than 5 minutes. 5. If you get off track just pick up on the date you are ready to go. If you get discouraged reach out for help! 6. Implement a potential client process. Utilize the Marketing Tracker system each time you come in contact with a potential client. At the end of the month add it to the Yearly Marketing Tracking spreadsheet. The Child Care Social Media System 2 Posts per working day 1 post for each weekend / holiday The 6 themes that result in the highest reach are: Gratitude this category is all about thanking someone, something, or something you, the Director or the Center is grateful for. Example: Thanking them for their business Thanking the rain has stopped and the children can play outside Thankful that you have an indoor gym on days it s -50 Thankful for your team Happening this category is what is happening at your Center right now! Here are a couple of examples: Miss Kathy is here singing and playing the guitar in Preschool 2! The children are dancing around and singing to the fun music! Sharing share an article share someone else s Facebook post update (I ll show you this in a bit) 5

6 Sharing share something! Share an article Share another business of interest to your customers Question Put a question out there to engage them in dialogue. Here are a couple of examples: Using the First letter of your last name use one word to describe our Center! It s the weekend! What fun activities will you be doing around town? Tip Provide them with information. A tip, a craft, a link to an article. It can be ANYTHING they would like it doesn t have to do with child care. Examples: Link to Pinterest Board on activities to do indoor when it rains Link to an article about Car Seat Safety Employee Recognition celebrate your employees use this as employee recognition & celebration! Anniversaries Graduations or Certifications Trainings Something great they did Something little they did to make a difference How To Get Likes Put a link on your website Hang a sign by your Front Door and on the Parent Boards Send home a flier to each student Mention it in every information packet you send out Put it in every tour packet Add the Facebook picture to every print advertisement Put it on your business card Add it to your signature Put it as the closing sentence on your voic Add a link or mention it in the newsletter every time you send one out Put a Facebook sign on a table if you go to the Preschool Fair Mention it to every potential client Pay for them by boosting an ad Pay for them by running a campaign 6

7 How To ASK for Likes Add a littler creativity to how you ask people to follow you on Facebook. Most people write Find Us On Facebook or Follow Us On Facebook. Facebook is about engagement so let s engage them in joining: Be part of the conversation! Join the Fun! Watch us grow! Connect with us! Suggested Guidelines It s important you have some rules before you introduce Facebook to your Parents and Employees. If you are already using social media and don t have policies that s fine, you can decide now and introduce them this month to everyone. Here are some suggested policies or procedures you follow: No pictures of a child should be posted on your public Facebook page unless you have written authorization from a Parent to do so. I mention our policy on my tour when I tell the Parents we re on Facebook. It shows them they can see what s going on and they can control if their child is on it. In the private group I have a policy that says IF you ask to be accepted to this group this gives us authorization to take photos of your child that can ONLY be posted in this private group. You are not allowed to tag yourself in the pictures OR copy a picture IF other children are in it. If you do you will be removed from the group permanently. Once you leave the Center you will be removed from the group. If you allowed teachers to be in it then they are removed as well when they leave and they can t copy pictures. Violations will result in written warning and then termination. 7
