4 Cash in With Instagram Pictures play an important role in marketing. From pictures of products to photos of customers, pictures can incite emotion and get people excited about a product or service. Of course, having a picture isn t enough. You also need people to see your pictures. That s where Instagram can help. This training will show you how to get lots of exposure on Instagram. First, though, you need to learn the Instagram basics. 3

5 Section 1 Instagram Basics Instagram is a photo sharing app that has over 50 million users. Instagram grew from 100,000 users to 50 million users in just two years. Due to this mobile growth, Facebook jumped in and purchased the company for one billion dollars. You can use Instagram to take photos, apply digital filters and share with other users. Because there are so many people on Instagram, you can share your photos with a large audience. Now that you know the basics, let s look at some tips. Instagram Tips Tip 1: You can make photos look really cool by using filters. Double and triple the filters to get the best effects. Tip 2: Double tap a photo if you want to like it. Tip 3: If you want to mention someone in a photo caption, type symbol followed by the person s username. Tip 4: Once a caption is published, it cannot be modified. However, you can delete it. Just go to the photo, tap Comments at the bottom and swipe your finger right to left across the caption. Then, a Delete button will appear. 4

6 Tip 5: If you follow someone on Instagram, you ll see all of the person s photos when he posts them. The same is true for your photos. If someone follows you, he will see all of your photos. Tip 6: Stop by Instagram s help section to get some additional tips and tricks. Keep these tips in mind as you move forward with this training. Now, let s look at how you can get followers. Get Followers First you always need to use hashtags and keywords when labeling photos. The keyword should be related to your niche. You can use the AdWords keyword tool to find the best keywords. Then, people will be able to find your photos by searching for popular keywords. Use the most popular hashtags so you ll get more visibility. The most popular are: #photooftheday #instagood #instamood #like4like Also, follow people, since a large percentage of people will follow you back if you follow them. It s important to note, though, that you can only follow 7,500 people. Once you hit your limit, you can unfollow those people and follow new people. 5

7 Next, find the Popular Picture section of Instagram and look through the most popular photos. Pick out ten or so pictures and go to the comment sections. Follow the people who liked or commented on the picture. Then, examine each user s activity so you can understand what he or she likes. Additionally, you ll need to upload great photos that will naturally spread virally and attract followers. I ll give you some tips for doing this later in the training. Finally, integrate Instagram with your other social media accounts so you can get more likes, comments and followers. Use HootSuite to accomplish this easily. Now let s look at using the AdWords keyword tool to find great keywords for your photos. 6

8 Keyword Research Go to Google and search for the AdWords Keyword tool. Click on the corresponding link. Once there, you can search for keywords that are competitive in AdWords. For example, you could type lose fat fast. Then, results will come up. First, you ll see the exact key phrase, and then, you ll see related search terms. You want to find keywords that have at least 3,000 global monthly searches. These are popular keywords. While it only shows keywords that are popular on Google, it can still help you with Instagram, since keywords that are popular on Google are likely popular on Instagram as well. Once you find some good keywords, put them in a spreadsheet. Then, use them when you tag your photos. Now, let s take a look at following power users. This can help you out a lot on Instagram. 7

9 Follow Power Users You can find some power Instagram users at the following links: Once you follow these users, you can examine their accounts to see how they became power users. Then you can duplicate their strategies. Now that you know the basics, it s time to move on to Section 2. 8

Instagram Services Instagram services can make it easier to manage your account. Use these services so you can save time and have more success with Instagram. Search Instagram You can easily search for photos at Use this service to find photos in your niche. Then you can see what types of photos are popular. 9

11 Manage Your Account Statigram ( is a dashboard for managing your Instagram account. Use this service so you can save some time. Turn Your Photos into PDFs You can use to transform your Instagram photos into PDFs. 10

12 Create Backups You can create backups for all of your photos on the cloud at 11

13 Create Collages Use to create a collage. This service offers 52 different layouts that highlight one to five images in a photo collage format. Add Text to Your Images If you have an iphone, you can use the Phonto app. It will let you add text to your images as if you were a real graphic designer. Now let s look at the ninja follower method. This method will make it easier (and faster) to follow people. 12

14 Ninja Follower Method You can use your PC to follow people. Just go to Then, you can follow people and manage your account from your computer. You can also use a robot to follow people. Go to This will allow you to automate the following process. Use this technique to follow lots of people. Then, some of those people will follow you back, especially if you have great pictures. Thus, you really need to get your pictures noticed. With that in mind, be sure to follow the next set of tips. 13

15 Get Your Pictures Noticed First, turn your images into art. Sites like CanvasPop and Bumblejax will blow your pictures up into gallery style canvasses that look like high quality art. If you d rather not display phone pictures on the wall, try turning them into an album. Keepsy transforms your Instagram images into a hardback book worthy of any coffee table. Next, enter a contest. on Twitter so you can find out about weekend hashtag projects. Basically, you ll upload a picture to Instagram that fits the theme and includes the hashtag. Winners are featured on Instagram s blog. Use a better camera. Pick up a panoramic or telephoto lens attachment for your iphone at Photojojo. You can also get fisheye, macro, and wide angle lens attachments. Additionally, you can pick up a tripod that s specifically designed for a mobile phone. You can also get the Glif so you can attach your phone to any tripod mount. Edit your photos. While Instagram offers a few in app options for editing, you can get a lot more out of the editing process if you edit before you upload to Instagram. Use apps like TiltShift, Color Splash, Snapseed, Camera+ and Photoforge. Choose a good username. Also, use the same username you use for Twitter. That way, people will be able to find you on both platforms. Use captions and tags. Always include a caption with your photo and select a location. Also, tag users by using symbol along with the person s username. 14

16 Now, it s time to look at finding products to promote on Instagram. Remember, you ll take photos of the products, or of people using the products, and post them on Instagram. First, though, you have to find products to promote. I m going to show you how to find both digital and physical products to promote on Instagram. Let s start with digital products. Promote Digital Products If you want to promote digital products, I recommend using ClickBank. ClickBank is an affiliate network, and it has a lot of products available to market. Every time you make a sale on ClickBank, you ll get a percentage of the profits. Signing Up for ClickBank Go to ClickBank.com and click Sign Up. Fill out the form and then check your . ClickBank will send your login information to you. Once you get your information, go back to ClickBank, log in and head over to the marketplace. 15

17 The marketplace lists all of the products that ClickBank has available for marketing. You ll see a list of categories on the left hand side of the page and a search bar near the top of the page. Go to the search bar and click the search button. Then, a list of the most popular products on ClickBank will come up. Click Promote next to a product you re interested in marketing. Then, a box will pop up. You ll need to enter your account nickname into the box. You can also enter a tracking ID if you want, but that s optional. Then, click Create. ClickBank will provide you with an affiliate link. You ll use that link in your marketing materials. Promote Physical Products If you want to promote physical products, you can use Amazon. You can sign up for Amazon s affiliate program at Once you sign up, you ll be ready to pick out some products. There are a few things you need to keep in mind when selecting products from Amazon. 16

18 Rating First, only select products that have at least a 3 ½ star rating. Reviews Only choose products that have at least ten reviews. Also, those reviews need to be positive. Price When you first sign up with Amazon, you ll make a 4% commission on sales. That amount will go up as you make some sales. In the meantime, though, only market products that sell for at least $250. How to Find Products Go to Amazon.com and click Full Store Directory. That s located on the left hand side of the home page. Click on a category that you re interested in, and then set some filters. Filters are on the left hand side of the page. First, set the minimum price to $250 and click Go. Then, go over to Avg. Customer Review and select three stars. Then, you can look through the products and select the ones you want to market. Now, let s move on to Section 3. 17

19 Section 3 Taking Profitable Pictures Now, I want to teach you how to take profitable pictures. Be sure to follow all these tips and techniques so you can take the best pictures possible. Depth and Lighting You want to take high quality pictures. With that in mind, you need to use your phone s camera instead of the Instagram application to take pictures. That being said, camera phones don t have the same depth of field as traditional cameras do, so you actually have to create the shot yourself. You ll need to use lines, repetition and space with foregrounds and backgrounds. Then, you can top it off by using the Instagram TiltShift effect to make the depth really stand out. Lighting is also incredibly important. First, avoid using the flash. Then, choose soft lighting so you can see the details in the highlights and the shadows. Then, you can edit it when you upload it to Instagram. Angles and Squares You also want to shoot from unusual angles. For instance, shoot down, or shoot up from below. You can also put objects in the foreground and have them blur out. Creative angles will help your pictures stand out. Keep in mind that Instagram photos are displayed with a 1x1 crop. Because of that, you need to think of your pictures as perfect squares. Thus, when framing a shot, look at it as a square. Anything outside of that square won t be able to be displayed. 18
