The Strength of Origin: Empowering HeArts is the signature fundraising event for Single Mothers Outreach. Proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales, and retail sales from Single Mother s Outreach s Closet on Main in Downtown Newhall are all essential to supporting our programs that enable and empower single parents to effectively care for their families. The Influence of Action: Empowering HeArts is an annual celebration of women who have changed lives and shaped their communities. It bridges the worlds of social action and artistic expression in an annual arts competition. Honorees are nominated by the community and selected by the Single Mothers Outreach Board of Directors and the Empowering HeArts Planning Committee. The Spirit of Inspiration: The Empowering Hearts Gala is an opportunity for Single Mother s Outreach to present creative works of Southern California artists who create unique art forms inspired by the real-life stories of the female honorees that embody this year s theme of resilience. The Beauty of Resilience: At the Gala, each of the Artist Honorees will be eligible to win two further awards. First, the Dottie Award is given to the artist who creates the most compelling visual story. The People s Choice award is chosen by Gala attendees from votes cast at the actual event. It is Single Mothers Outreach s hope that through sharing these powerful stories in word and art, these extraordinary women will impact and inspire others to rise above their own circumstances.

4 About Single Mothers Outreach Our Mission Parenting is too important a responsibility to bear alone, yet all too often single mothers and fathers are forced to do just that. Because we believe that effective parenting leads to successful, well-adjusted children, Single Mothers Outreach supports families facing sudden housing instability, income loss, emotional trauma, and social deterioration as the result of divorce, abandonment, or widowhood. With a mission to "empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support, and resources so that families can become self-sustaining and thrive," Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) directly helps single parents find jobs, continue their education, secure housing, stabilize their children's emotional states, manage their finances, and help one another. Our Goals Be the #1 resource for single parents in the vast Santa Clarita Valley by providing comprehensive and timely services to meet their needs. Raise community awareness of single parents' unique challenges and the impact those challenges have on society at large and Santa Clarita in particular Set single parents on a successful path toward financial, emotional, and psychological self-sufficiency. Create a platform for single parents to voice their challenges, needs, and concerns. RESILIENCE Expand organizational sustainability.
