T assemble a grup f specialists in the technlgies related t Aerdynamic Deceleratr Systems (ADS) research and technlgy that can best identify the ADS capabilities, requirements, and pprtunities fr new develpment. 2. T fcus attentin n the present and future needs fr ADS t imprve the capabilities, quality, reliability, and custmer knwledge f ADS. 3. T prmte the transfer f ADS technlgy between related technical disciplines t include ther AIAA TC s. 4. T help manage the timely disseminatin f state-f-the-art infrmatin regarding ADS technlgy t the Aerspace Cmmunity and the public thrugh spnsring f seminars, cnferences, shrt curses and ther methds. 5. T spnsr, facilitate and rganize the bi-annual ADS Seminar and Cnference. 6. T encurage nminatins fr and vte n the AIAA The Knacke Award winner and rganize the awards banquet during each ADS Cnference. 7. T maintain liaisn activities with related ADS grups/teams/rganizatins 8. T spnsr a Shrt Curse at a frequency that meets the ADS cmmunities needs. Back t Table f Cntents Technical Emphasis

3 The cmmittee will emphasize and maintain knwledge n ADS related technlgies. Examples f the technlgies t be cnsidered and mnitred include aerdynamic deceleratr systems and lifting parachutes, parartatrs, and inflatable deceleratrs fr aerdynamic deceleratin, sustentatin, landing f manned and unmanned vehicles, testing capabilities and facilities and related instrumentatin technlgies, and all related and supprting technlgies utilized during fr ADS systems. Back t Table f Cntents Frums and Meetings The primary means fr cmmunicatin t the Aerspace Cmmunity will include the rganizatin f cnferences, seminars, and shrt curses at ADS spnsred and/r natinal AIAA meetings and the prmtin f summary articles and technical papers in AIAA publicatins and ther publicatins. The principal frum will be the bi annual Aerdynamic Deceleratr Systems Seminar and Cnference. Hwever, the cmmittee will remain diligent t identify ther AIAA and jintly spnsred technical meetings in which aerdynamic deceleratr systems technlgy is f interest and an apprpriate tpic. The cmmittee will meet at least twice each year, at varius lcatins agreed t by the TC. Lcatins fr meetings can include large AIAA cnferences/meeting, at a hst facility f chice, in cnjunctin with related events such as in cnjunctin with the Parachute Industry Assciatin r in cnjunctin with a test and a test range. At its meetings, the cmmittee will cnduct ADS team update briefings, future events planning, new business pprtunities, and ptentially turs fr its members t prmte technlgy transfer between the rganizatins represented by its members. Back t Table f Cntents Membership T facilitate the transfer f technlgy between disciplines sharing related Aerdynamic Deceleratr Systems bjectives, the cmmittee seeks members frm a wide range disciplines and the AIAA cmmunity arund the wrld. Hwever, t preserve the fundamental emphasis f this technical cmmittee, membership selectin is t be biased tward individuals wh are actively engaged in the prject management, research, r develpment f aerdynamic deceleratr related technlgies and/r requirements. 4 Appintment t an AIAA technical cmmittee signifies prfessinal recgnitin as a technical expert within the aerspace cmmunity. In additin, it ffers a unique pprtunity fr peridic interactin with a brad crss sectin f prfessinals sharing similar technical interests. Hwever, the acceptance f membership als implies an accepted bligatin t participate actively. The technical cmmittee is a vlunteer rganizatin that depends n its members t willingly cntribute their time and energy at least in the fllwing ways: a. T participate in a leadership rle r as a cntributr t a subcmmittee(s)/team(s). b. T ffer ideas prmting the gals and activities f the technical cmmittee. c. T slicit cntributed papers fr sessins f natinal meetings spnsred by the technical cmmittee. d. T prpse and cntribute technlgy updates n ADS prgrams and share verview infrmatin regarding new ADS initiatives at technical cmmittee meetings. Depending n a member's technical backgrund, interests, and prfessinal cmmitments, members shuld als assume respnsibility fr advcating and rganizing special prjects which prvide a specific service t the aerspace cmmunity such as a review article fr Aerspace America, participatin in an AIAA shrt curse, rganizatin f special ADS presentatins, etc. In accrdance with the AIAA guidelines, technical cmmittee membership is a ne-year appintment that is nrmally renewable twice fr a ttal f three years f service. Extended membership and ex-ffici membership is als accepted when it is advcated as beneficial t the functin f the technical cmmittee. In this technical cmmittee, a fundamental requirement fr the cntinuatin f membership is the attendance f at least ne f every tw-three cnsecutive semi-annual meetings and/r significant cntributins twards that meeting frwarded t an apprpriate Team Leader r the ADS chairman. A further bligatin is t becme an AIAA member in advance f jining the ADS TC and t maintain gd status with AIAA during the perid f technical cmmittee participatin. Finally, members unable t cntinue their active participatin shuld strive t recruit a replacement fr their psitin, preferably frm within their wn rganizatin. Back t Table f Cntents ORGANIZATION

One additinal year will be spent as Chairman- Elect fllwed by tw years as TC Chairman. Chairman respnsibilities include: Prvide leadership t the ADS TC.

6 Appint secretary, subcmmittee chairman and task assignments with ADS TC supprt. Prduce the AIAA ADS annual reprt. Fster special and/r new prjects. Prepare the agenda fr TC meetings and preside ver TC meetings. Reprt t the AIAA Technical Activities Cmmittee (TAC). Prvide fr the electin f a new Vice-Chairman befre the expiratin f his term. Oversees the peratin and cmmunicatins within the ADS TC. Review the purpse, gals, and perfrmance f the ADS TC. Prpse and evaluate new TC prjects. Select sites fr TC meetings. Reviews AIAA business that might have impact n the ADS TC. Vice Chairman Elected by the cmmittee members fr a three-year term beginning within 1-6 mnths f nne bi-annual ADS Seminar and Cnference years. Apprximately ne year will be spent as TC Chairman-elect fllwed by tw years as TC Chairman. Chairman-elect respnsibilities include: Assist the Chairman in prviding leadership fr the ADS TC. Fulfills all duties and respnsibilities f the Chairman in the absence f the Chairman. Perfrms assignments frm the Chairman. Autmatically succeed the Chairman n a biennial cycle. Be actively invlved in multiple ADS Team activities

7 Secretary Appinted by the chair each meeting with the fllwing respnsibilities: Recrd and distribute the minutes and cpies f presentatin material fr each TC meeting in a timely manner. Distribute all TC publicatins t Team Leader f the hmepage team fr hmepage psting. Update and distribute the membership rster and membership summary. Back t Table f Cntents ADS Teams (general and additinal functins) The Chair will assign all members t ne r mre team(s) with input and preference cnsideratins. The purpse f these teams is t prmte their technical disciplines and t advise the full cmmittee n prgrams, cnferences, special activities, etc. relative t their discipline areas. Prpse and slicit TC meeting speakers fr tpics and technlgy reviews f interest t the general TC membership. Supply inputs t the publicatin cmmittee fr the annual Aerspace America Article (nrmally due at the summer meeting) Reprts n activities at the full TC meetings. Supprt and prmte technical cnferences, sympsia, and curses fr the benefit f the ADS cmmunity. Act as a catalyst fr the transfer f discipline technlgy t the ADS cmmunity and beynd. Act as a fcal pint fr discipline infrmatin and educatin. Shrt Curse Team

8 The Team Leader shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each Actively market scheduled Shrt Curse well in advance Plan, pre-fund, and execute shrt curses as needed/desired by the ADS cmmunity. Maintain archival recrds f shrt curse material. Seek input frm attendee's and mdify curriculum based n feedback and current state-f-the-art practices in ADS. Assure that Shrt Curses d nt negatively impact the ADS TC's financial accunt status. MORE Finance Team The Team Leader shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each Maintain a ADS TC bank accunt that allws fr direct autmated teller depsits but nly 2-signature (agreed by Chairman) check withdrawals. Reprt t the TC the current ADS TC accunt balance at TC meetings with details f all transactins. Prvide the Team leader f the Hmepage team a digital histry f all such transactins fr inclusin n the hmepage. Make recmmendatins t the TC n ptential ADS TC investments (i.e. best paper awards, invited speakers, schlarships, design cmpetitins, etc.). 9 Keep the hmepage current with: Schedule f ADS TC related events, current membership and member bis (sught frm each member), psting f meeting minutes, annual Aerspace America Highlights articles, newsletters, award recipients, related links, shrt curse annuncements/surveys, and seminar and cnference annuncements. Maintain a current ADS TC and snail mail distributin list and seek t expand this list t assure maximum distributin f ADS TC infrmatin. MORE Database Team The Team Leader shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each Encurage the utilizatin f the MOA with the Linda Hall Library (LHL). Seek alternative funding surces t assist large database cllectins are submitted t the LHL. MORE. 10 Publish and maintain a TC prmtin package and a TC infrmatin bklet. Draft the annual Aerspace America Highlights cntributin fr TC review and final apprval prir t submissin t AIAA fr publicatin. Crdinate special publicatins f the ADS TC. Publish a bi-annual (r mre frequent) ADS newsletter. Establish liaisn with the apprpriate AIAA technical jurnal editrs t ffer them technical supprt. MORE Awards/Membership Team The Team Leader shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each Prmte the ADS TC and slicit new member applicatins frm lcal AIAA sectins, the AIAA membership at large, and apprpriate gvernment, academic, and industrial facilities. Administer TC respnse t annual TC membership slicitatin. Prvide new members with intrductry material and training. Prmte membership upgrades f TC members. Select new members fr upcming year. Ensure an apprpriate membership balance between industry, gvernment and academia. Cnduct ne-n-ne new member rientatin. Prvide an updated membership list at each TC meeting. 11 Seminar & Cnference Team The General Chairman (Team Leader) shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each activity t include a Seminar Chairman, Administrative Chairman, Technical Chairman, and ther psitins. Establish cntacts with AIAA natinal meeting rganizers t establish cnference details/arrangements and/r arrange TC participatin and sessin rganizatin if the cnference is part f a larger AIAA event. Crdinate sessin rganizatin with ther technical cmmittees as required. Slicit sessin chairman and invited speakers fr TC-spnsred sessins. Crdinate technical reviews f cntributed meeting papers. Assure timely annuncements t the ADS cmmunity thrugh annuncements in Aerspace America, mass mailings and the ADS TC list. Determine the lcatin f the event. Mre Liaisn Members The Team Leader shall assign team leaders and tasks fr each Develp liaisn with lcal AIAA sectins. Maintain liaisn with ther TCs by assigning a representative t attend their meetings and/r mnitr ther TC's activities. Reprt the activities f the ADS TC t ther TC's and reprt ther TC activities t the ADS TC. Thrugh liaisn cntacts, review and evaluate technlgy develpments frm ther disciplines that may impact Aerdynamic Deceleratr Systems technlgy.

12 Thrugh liaisn cntacts, review and evaluate the rganizatin, gals, and activities f ther grups within and withut the AIAA that may influence the activities f the ADS-TC. Maintain liaisn activities (designated ADS TC members) with the Parachute Industry Assciatin (PIA) and the Natinal Parachute Technlgy Cuncil (NPTC).
