1 GETTING TRAFFIC WITH FACEBOOK ADS Facebook advertising is an excellent platform to use to increase traffic to your website. In order to be successful with your advertising campaigns it's important to do a little planning and research beforehand rather than just throwing dollars to the wind. The fact is there are over 1 million advertisers on Facebook and a massive $8 billion being poured into Facebook ads and for good reason... it works when carried out correctly! With more and more businesses turning their advertising spend on Facebook and reducing their reliance on traditional forms of advertising it's clear that the Facebook platform is a major player in the advertising arena. With currently 1.71 billion monthly active users it is highly likely that your target audience is already on Facebook making this a no-brainer platform for attracting more traffic and business to your website. Facebook beats Google Adwords hands down in terms of cost per click and in terms of targeting real interests and demands rather than second guessing them with keywords you have to figure out with Adwords. So, lets see how you can get up and running with Facebook Ads. 1) Setting Up Your Facebook Account The first thing you need to advertise on Facebook is a Facebook account. Many of you will already have a personal Facebook account in which case you will need to use this existing account because Facebook does not allow you to have more than one Facebook account without their express permission. However, it's very easy to incorporate your business into your account as all you need to do is create a Facebook Page for your business or product. This is also sometimes referred to as a 'fan page'. If you don't already have a Facebook account you can go ahead and create a business account or alternatively just create a personal account and incorporate your Facebook page into that. It really depends on whether you will want a personal account at some point in the future so just a point to consider. Either way, what you cannot do is create a fictitious account - this is the fastest way to get banned from Facebook - their rules are extremely stringent so you would do best to follow them carefully. You can sign up for an account at - enter your name, , birthday, gender and then enter a password of your choice. Once you completed this information hit the 'Sign Up' button and shortly after you will receive an asking you to click on a link to confirm and complete the sign up process. The process is quick and easy and takes just minutes.

2 Once you have completed the sign up process you will then need to login and verify your account by adding your mobile number. Once you do this Facebook with send you a text with a confirmation code for you to enter in order to verify your account. This is an important step because once you have verified your account you will have full access to all of Facebook's features to personalise your account. Ok, the next thing you need to do is create a Facebook Page to represent your business or product. Once you have created your Facebook Page for your business it will then appear as a Facebook Page link within your Facebook account. So, login to your account and scroll down your home page and click on the 'Create a Page' link: You will then be taken here to create your business page: Click on the icon that reflects your type of business or product and enter the information requested to set up your business page and you're ready to go. For example if you select the 'Brand or Product' icon you will be requested to enter this information for your page: Once you've set your page up when you log into your account your Facebook Business page will feature as a list down the left side of your homepage.

3 Now you're ready to create your first campaign! Creating A Campaign The first thing you need to do is go to the 'Ads Manager' section. This is easily found by clicking on the 'Create Ad' found under the drop down menu at the right top of your screen. Click on the link 'Create Ad' to go here to set up your Ad campaign: You will need to select the objective for your campaign, for example you might want to Promote your Page or Send people to your Website. So select which objective you want to achieve. In the example below I am going to choose to Send People to your Website.

4 Next, click the continue button: On the next page you will need to enter your target audience, budget and schedule.

5 On the next screen is where you'll create your ad:

6 You can upload an image to go with your ad copy and then you will need to enter the headline and text for your ad. Here are guidelines to follow when creating your ad, choosing your audience, location, demographics and interests. 1) Headline The title of your ad can only contain 25 characters but it needs to be attention grabbing and crystal clear in what your ad is about. Try to raise curiosity so that people who see your ad will want to click on it to find out more. 2) Text The body of your ad can only contain 135 characters so you will need to keep your ad straight to the point and succinct for maximum effect. You can see in the above example my ad copy tells people a) what they can do and b) how they can get started. 3) Images Images should be at least 154 x 154 pixels. You can either create your own images or if you are an affiliate grab one from the affiliate page of the product you are promoting and resize it so that it falls within the specified dimensions. If you use your own images obviously make sure they are relevant to the product you are promoting. Choosing Your Audience The next step for you is to target your audience i.e. select those Facebook users who will be able to see your ad. This is a very important step because you can select your audience criteria by location, demographics, interests and connections so it gives you great control over who will see your ad allowing you to ensure that only those that it will appeal to will see it thus saving you from wasted ad spend. Once you have entered your ad headline, text and image scroll further down the page to enter your audience criteria. 1) Location You can select who will see your ad by Country, State/Province, City and even Zip Code. So if you are a local business target your local area only and not anywhere else. If you operate nationally then you would select by country etc. Ideally, it is best NOT to cast your net too wide but better to set up different ads for different regions to be better able to effectively track your campaigns and how much you are spending on them. That way if you find that one particular part of a country performs better than another part you can invest more in the better performing ads and cut back on the ones that don't convert into customers for you. This is by no means a golden rule it entirely depends on the product or service you are promoting. 2) Demographics This is simply a way of selecting the age and gender of people who will see your ad. If you are promoting a product that is only applicable to women of a certain age group then you will

7 want to enter this criteria. If you don't enter your specifications here it will remain at the default setting of everyone over the age of 18 which again is going to waste your ad budget. 3) Interests The next section requires you to target the interests of those who will see your ad. Facebook 'Interests' are lists that Facebook users have created in their account on things they are interested in or follow on other Facebook user accounts. Facebook 'Likes' on the other hand occur when a Facebook user clicks 'Likes' under something that has been posted on Facebook that they liked or enjoyed. A notification is sent to the person who posted the content that it has been 'Liked' by that Facebook user. It is important to note that neither of these are related to what people are searching for online. Instead it reflects the 'Likes' and 'Interests' that your targeted audience have identified in their profiles. So, if you select 'fat loss' as an interest then your ad will only be displayed to those Facebook users who have an interest in fat loss but it does not mean that these people are necessarily searching for 'fat loss' products. Campaigns, Pricing and Scheduling This section deals with how much you want to pay for your ad, the currency you use and the frequency of when your ad will be display. So, once you have completed your audience criteria above, scroll further down the page to complete this section. Enter the currency you will use to pay for your campaign. The country where your account is located and the time zone you want Facebook to use when scheduling your ads to go out. Next: 1) Give your campaign a name you will easily be able to recognise once you have several ads running. 2) Set a campaign budget - this is the maximum amount that you want to spend on this ad campaign. Take note of the drop down menu to the side of this which gives you an option of 'per day' or 'per lifetime'. Make sure you select the correct one you are budgeting for. For example, if I enter $10 per day it means Facebook will use $10 dollars of my money per day to display my ad. On the other if your total budget for a campaign is $10 then you need to select lifetime and once your $10 is used up you will not be charged further.. Sounds simple, yes but often overlooked until you end up with ad charges you hadn't budgeted for. 3) Schedule when you would like your ad to start running. You can select to run your campaign continuously from when you set it up or select a start and end date for your ad to run.

8 Paying For Your Ads Finally, you will need to set up a funding source to pay for your ads. Once you hit the 'Place Order' button (see image above) you will be taken to a page where you can securely enter your payment details. You can pay via your credit card or via your paypal account - bear in mind that Facebook will not run your ad until this information has been provided. Once you have provided your payment information you will need to wait a short time for your ad to be approved. You can keep an eye on the approval process via your ad manager screen located at where all your campaigns will be listed. The whole process of setting up an ad campaign is very quick. Maybe the first time around it may take a little longer but once you know what you're doing you can have a campaign set up in 10 minutes or less!
