2 What is National Lacrosse Day? National Lacrosse Day is the celebration of our sport. Collectively we are promoting the game and identifying playing opportunities at clubs. What benefit will it provide to my club? The delivery of a National Lacrosse Day will assist clubs in their approach to recruitment and the playing offers for attracting new participants and former players by: Improved sign-posting players from university and school into clubs Delivery of more flexible playing opportunities in community clubs Raised profile of lacrosse and lacrosse events in the National Press and other media. Media The use of social media is vital for the success of your day. We encourage all clubs to utilise social media to promote the dates, venue and times and to share images and videos throughout the day. To get involved please use the hashtag: #natlaxday15 in all your Tweets, Instagram and Facebook posts. To maximise your coverage and exposure we have come up with a list of organisations that you should think about liaising with on social media. English Lacrosse will retweet everything that comes our way. CSP ) Local council Local newspaper Youth clubs Scout/guide groups Schools YMCA
3 Gyms Local radio Womens groups Local Volunteer groups Ask people to like and follow you on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more exposure and to maximise your recruitment network. National/Regional Media These are some of the ways you can promote NLD at your club. Local press Contact your local newspaper and send in a story describing what your club will be doing on 19 th September and how people can get involved. National Lacrosse Day marketing pack English Lacrosse will be sending every club a link and personal login to utilise our new online marketing portal, where you can access your free National Lacrosse Day marketing pack. Personalising the pack You can personalise items within the National Lacrosse Day marketing pack, you can add your club logo and photos to personalise the resources. Should you wish to order more resources you have the option to do so (at an additional cost). Your pack includes: 1x Banner to promote national lacrosse day 250x A5 leaflets 5x A3 National lacrosse day Posters 30x Promotional Wristbands
4 You will receive your personalised pack through the post early August so make sure your media campaign is ready to launch from August. Recruitment
5 Ideas for the day Invite past members to enjoy the day - Check Facebook groups for non-active members - Look at past memberships and target specific people - Word of mouth - Set up old vs current friendly game Run scrimmages applicable to your audience and that will draw crowds - Mixed games - Old boys games - Uni vs club game - Easy formats, quick turnaround so it s suitable to watch and play in. Taster sessions/activities for new players - Beat the goalie - Scoop challenge - INTO a Bin challenge - Fun based games suggested on INTO resource pack - INTO 4 s - INTO 8 s Organise some entertainment - Refreshments and BBQ throughout the day followed by a social event/meal afterwards suitable refreshments and food for juniors.
6 Use the day as a registration day for your existing members Information/focal point for people to find out more about lacrosse and about your club. - Coaches - Timetables - Follow up sessions - Club activity Recording who attends It is important that you try to record who who turns up to your day. Please try to record basic information such as name, age, gender, or social media address. You should also record if they are likely to continue playing or not. Activity Resource Use the INTO Lacrosse support for your fun sessions:
7 FAQ 1. How many volunteers will we need on the day? Draw up a list of essential roles: Event organiser, social media officer, first aider, a selection of suitable coaches, officials for matches, personable people to meet and greet, photographer, assistant coaches, promotional reps to talk to new faces. 2. What resources should the club provide? A lot of playing equipment, including pop sticks, field sticks, balls, cones, bibs Gazebo s, portable table, sound system, BBQ, cool boxes/ fridges, A fully stocked first aid kit Club information follow up session details, training sessions, key personnel Refreshments, disposable cups and plates, bin pages Well presented, tidy, clean club house and pitches Available Wi-Fi codes if required to support social media activity Means of litter/refuse collection a number of bins located around pitches and playing area Club clothing to be worn 3. Social media Photo consent form needs consideration, a general sign saying that photos will be taken, any objections please inform the help desk
8 4. How much preparation and time will the day take to organise There are a variety of commitment levels, the aim is for everyone to celebrate and promote lacrosse on the day. It may be advisable to have a pre-event meeting to allocate roles, and distribute information so the day can run smoothly (first aid points, toilets, time of games) Event organiser will take the lead, or allocate roles and responsibilities Players should be encouraged to provide more engagement but playing is as important as manning the BBQ. 5. What happens if it rains? Have a contingency plan have a number of gazebos ready, so spectators can stand underneath to watch the demonstration games or improvised activities. 6. What happens if no new players or interested people turn up? English Lacrosse is as exited for you to enjoy the day, don t panic, pick up a stick and celebrate. 7. Child protection and welfare concerns? All individuals involved, need to be aware that young people maybe attending without supervision of parents/carer, have enough coaches to provide a high quality duty of care. First Aid: have a nominated first aider and store at a central point.
